Men pushing in in queues and not social distancing.

I know in the scheme of things this is only small but its the bloody entitlement that gets to me.

When the new Coronavirus Bill came in last Thursday two men used the 2 m gap to try to push in front while i was queuing outside Tesco.

Re, social distancing , i try i really try to stay 2m from people at all times on the rare occasions but the amount of men who walk right next to me or towards me KNOWING that i will move.

This afternoon was the final straw Queuing outside Sainsburys observing the 2 m rule i had to wait until the queue moved to where the trolleys were . There was no way i could get to them BEFORE queuing and observe the 2m rule so i had to wait in the queue before i got to them. I leant across to put my pound in the slot and the FOUR men queuing behind me jumped the queue by moving along in front.

Im so fed up with the entitlement Every time its been a man EVERY TIME. Ive not seen this from women at all .

Couldnt figure out what the titanic had to do with anything

Ive got it now 🚢

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:52

Which of my opinions?

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:52

I posted my thoughts at 10.50.

Which of my actions has been fucking stupid?

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:51

Or an opinion.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:51

And I tend to say an action is fucking stupid rather than the person.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:50

Ok I just had a look at your posts so I could see what this is about.

You seem to have only commented on that one post. Do you have any views on the topic of the thread?

Personally I don't tend to say people are fucking stupid unless they've really pissed me off. Does that help.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 04/04/2020 11:50

because you've just lost someone who was trying to learn and understand the cause

Really, it just took one poster?

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:49

What? Where have I done that? I asked one poster to explain their comment. I've not asked anyone else to do anything.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:48

You're demanding that all posters in the thread individually denounce another one. I'm not really interested in that part of the convo. I'm more interested in what others are saying.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 11:48

I must admit that if there was a way to do the "stop trying to eat the electrical cord/the blinds!" squirt bottle trick on people on the internet I'd occasionally be tempted.

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:45

Why? Why is it necessary to gang up on me when I just want to understand?

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:44

Is it wrong to be sad? Are women not allowed to feel sad?

SwerfandTurf · 04/04/2020 11:43

Did anyone start a bingo card yet? I've got "you've put me off feminism but not being nice enough, you have"

GrinGrin

Well said. Someone in an animal rights group on FB said something nasty to me recently, I’m not going to start kicking puppies and squirting shampoo at bunnies as a result.

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:43

Thank you @SwerfandTurf for explaining it to me. It wasn't me who said NAMALT, I was just trying to understand why it's acceptable to call people fucking stupid if they have a different point of view. Genuinely I want to understand, and when various posters think it's acceptable to be condescending it very much makes me wonder why I bother, and why those posters seem to think they're better than men when they appear to be doing what men have a habit of doing.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 11:40

But then they'll be sad, Beetroot, and it will be your fault that they no longer support feminism.

(Even in the middle of a pandemic, human nature doesn't change.)

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 11:35

Oh have we got to the bit where everyone has to comment on every single comment on the thread?

That's not how it works. I can't be arsed to engage with your bickering.

A pack of entitled MAMILs out cycling in Regen't Park:

Police tell holidaymakers to stay at home over the Easter holiday www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8186935/Police-tell-holidaymakers-stay-home-Easter-holiday-period.html?ito=native_share_channel-home-preview

I haven’t seen anyone accused of lying, unless it was the deleted post.

Obviously no one here thinks that literally 100% of men do X, or that it’s impossible for women to do X. But we live in a patriarchy predicated on thousands of years of sex-based oppression, and we see the ramifications of that every day, both in terms of subconscious behaviour, social conditioning, and cultural norms in general. There’s a ton of scientific research out there studying things like, for example, that people in experiments treat babies differently depending on whether they are wearing clothing that codes them as male or female. Or that when people are asked to estimate how much time each person spent talking, both men and women vastly overestimate what percentage of the time women spent talking and underestimate it for men (meaning if you’re a woman in a business meeting and you talk for just 5% of the meeting both men and women will perceive you as having dominated the conversation, while a man can speak twice or three times as much without the same perception).

It’s important for women to acknowledge and be able to talk about these societal trends and how a culture of patriarchy influences them. Popping up with “NAMALT” isn’t helpful and has the effect of censoring and shutting down debate. And okay people pushing in queues isn’t the most serious issue. But “NAMALT” is frequently used as a minimising or censoring tactic to shut down discussions about much more serious things like rape and femicide. Sexual violence is overwhelmingly a male crime, yet there are an awful lot of people out there (many of them unfortunately women) who are conditioned to defend men whenever possible, and to justify or make excuses for behaviour that’s far worse than what’s being discussed here. Look what happens whenever a rape is reported in the press, it’s the victim who is torn apart and has every facet of her life (appearance, drinking habits, romantic history) questioned, never the man. Even when it comes to sexual offences involving minors, people would rather nitpick about what a 14yr old is wearing and whether she was especially mature for her age (usually while screaming “NAMALT” at the same time) than acknowledge that adult men shouldn’t be fucking children, period.

I read this shit every day, and I’m sick to the back teeth of it. I’m sick of men being excused and defended. I’m sick of the mentality that men are somehow victims of feminism. I’m not comparing rape to queue pushing obviously but the knee-jerk reaction to defend men at all costs is dangerous because it’s a slippery slope. And NAMALT is one of the common tactics used to oppress women and stop debate, so I side eye anyone using it.

@NiteFlights I've no problem with polite disagreement, I have a problem when I'm trying to understand something and I'm spoken to in a condescending manner.

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 11:26

So you all, as feminists, think that speaking to someone like they are fucking stupid is acceptable? Double standards much?

JudyCoolibar · 04/04/2020 11:26

I'm becoming zen about this. The reality is that, since lockdown, I'm never in any real hurry, I'm happy to stand in the queue and read a book on my phone, and if someone pushes in it doesn't honestly make that much difference to me.

NiteFlights · 04/04/2020 11:25

unless you agree 100% with someone on Feminism Chat you will be spoken to like you're 'fucking stupid'.

This statement is demonstrably untrue. Polite disagreement exists here. Certain posting topics and styles are repeated ad nauseam and NAMALT is incredibly tiresome.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 04/04/2020 11:25

You are allowed out daily for exercise so that's where all the runners are meeting

And the shops? Some of you must be barely indoors the number of interactions you're having. Why are you exercising in such crowded places if you are meant to be maintaining social distancing? Probably best to exercise elsewhere if you're constantly mown down by joggers and cyclists.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 11:24

It's not a proper thread invasion until someone mentions the Titanic though.

I just need "not my nigel" for a full house.
