Men pushing in in queues and not social distancing.

I know in the scheme of things this is only small but its the bloody entitlement that gets to me.

When the new Coronavirus Bill came in last Thursday two men used the 2 m gap to try to push in front while i was queuing outside Tesco.

Re, social distancing , i try i really try to stay 2m from people at all times on the rare occasions but the amount of men who walk right next to me or towards me KNOWING that i will move.

This afternoon was the final straw Queuing outside Sainsburys observing the 2 m rule i had to wait until the queue moved to where the trolleys were . There was no way i could get to them BEFORE queuing and observe the 2m rule so i had to wait in the queue before i got to them. I leant across to put my pound in the slot and the FOUR men queuing behind me jumped the queue by moving along in front.

Im so fed up with the entitlement Every time its been a man EVERY TIME. Ive not seen this from women at all .

Im thinking of wearing some kind of wing to keep people away. Like an angel of the north costume sticking out 2ms.

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 13:47

We have a stormtrooper round our way. Although it's not a new thing, he's been around for years.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 04/04/2020 13:47

I have definitely noticed this! Went to sainsburies yesterday and it was all men, all standing in the middle of the fucking aisle staring at the tuna for about 20 minutes. Now i cant get passed them.

They are wandering around like lost souls!

Also men who are too cool for school pretending they dont care about queuing. Slowly sauntering forwards, not standing on the 2m lines like everyone else Angry

And male runners who were already entitled fuckers seem to be even more entitled, they know i need to be 2ms away from them now.

And to buck the trend my nigel has been behaving like an absolute wally with the shopping. For some unknown reason he cant seem to make any fucking decision on what food to buy, deepite the fact hes been feeding himself for 10 yrs hes suddenly completely thrown by bread Hmm

* ..*T-Rex costumes for their daily exercise..

A Marc Bolan lookalike just jogged past our house!

Weird..

Several posters here clearly think men are selfish, incompetent idiots...

See how you missed out the word "some"?

Is it Straw-man visibility day?

Hyperbole for effect. (A concept which I've noticed many posters on FWR seem to struggle with)

My justification being the posters throwing objections to NAMALT in. If NAMALT is going to be used I'll do the same

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 04/04/2020 13:41

I'm kind of enjoying the fact that life is so fucking nuts right now that a thread on men in supermarkets on FWR is an absolute flashpoint of over tired bickering.

I think it's my second favourite thing after random people dressed in T-Rex costumes for their daily exercise.

NearlyGranny · 04/04/2020 13:33

I think we all need to carry one of those can airhorns when we're out shopping or exercising and use it after a warning cry of "Back off!" when encroachers reach the 2m mark and don't look like stopping.

That will fix it!

TinselAngel · 04/04/2020 13:11

Is everybody on this thread over tired?

HorseRadishFemish · 04/04/2020 13:07

So exciting getting all these emails from Mumsnet saying "you have been mentioned in a post"..

HorseRadishFemish · 04/04/2020 13:05

I haven't noticed this but the 2 people breathing down my neck at a supermarket with lines on were both men aged 50- 65.

Well then you have noticed it!

What actually happened, post now deleted, someone implied that, because of my initial post, (which might have been one of the first sharing a different opinion to the opening post) I am a man. Someone else, who happens to have a functioning brain, pointed out that it would be very unlikely.

OP has had some very unpleasant experiences and they were all coming from men. Others had similar experiences but theirs were coming from women. Others had no such experiences. Others had experiences like these from both men and women.
Just because this in the feminism chat, it doesn’t mean we can’t share our own experiences and join the discussion.
As it happens, I didn’t even realise this was under Feminism. But it should make no difference to being able to share a similar experience/observation and even a point of view however different that might be from the main consensus.

Annasgirl · 04/04/2020 12:32

Oh my people I have found you. Actually I'm usually here.

Like you Sarah, I've had enough. It is so sickening though, once the scales fall from your eyes, you can never again unsee what is all around you. And really, this lockdown has brought it home even more.

My daily run, which I do early to keep me sane though the day of homeschooling, minding the children, minding the business online, minding the money now the business is closed, etc etc, and my only respite is ruined by selfish men running towards me, totally ignoring the 2m rule - I agree men do not know how long a metre is - and me ending up running into foxholes on the side of the path as I swerve to avoid collision. And never so much as a backwards glance or apology.

Also sad that so many women only come on here to berate us for noticing that the patriarchy has been maintained by men not being nice - and that is me saying it in the kindest possible way.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 12:22

The market I went to solved that problem by repositioning carts by the door, with a person wiping them down between uses and squirting hand sanitizer for each person on their way in before they grab one.

Gronky · 04/04/2020 12:20

I wonder if context is important? By definition, you'd only have an issue with one person/group while queueing to enter the supermarket while you'd have more encounters when you finally make it inside, especially if the supermarket allowed too many people in at once.

Personally, I've only been shopping twice since they introduced limited numbers at the supermarket and, on both occasions, I too had to get a trolley while waiting. Neither resulted in misunderstandings causing me to lose my place in the queue.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 12:19

The way some people are currently defining "mischief" has me a bit concerned for their mental health, tbh. FWR is a bit of light relief from the coronavirus threads.

Comicshadows · 04/04/2020 12:18

I asked if it's acceptable to call a group of people fucking stupid for having a different opinion. This time last year I had no clue about self ID and wouldn't have seen a problem, does that mean I was fucking stupid then and now I'm not? Of does it mean that I just didn't realise or understand the situation?

SwerfandTurf · 04/04/2020 12:18

That’s supposed to be “badly” but whatever

Notredamn · 04/04/2020 12:17

Both times I was coming out of the local shop and the post office recently, a different man has pushed by me/up against me to get in the door as I was exiting it.

SwerfandTurf · 04/04/2020 12:17

One of the things I miss most now I’m self-isolating is playing patriarchy chicken.

One time I was suffering madly from PMDD and I glared so hard at a guy walking straight at me that he wound up crossing the road to avoid me.

TedsFederationRep · 04/04/2020 12:15

On the plus side, Prodigal, it's keeping some people off the streets and out of mischief, as my old Mum used to say...Grin

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 12:14

I was ignoring you into you said that every poster in the thread had to state their disagreement with the other poster, or be assumed to agree with them!

DidoLamenting · 04/04/2020 12:14

TheProdigalKittensReturn

Well, I'm not among those who simply "don't like people", so...

If I have a confirmation bias it will be to be irritated by members of the public, of either sex. For the moment the great British public is failing to irritate me.

I suppose if I disliked men as much as some FWR posters do and was constantly on the look out for something to be irritated by I might have more luck.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/04/2020 12:12

Its a relatively fast thread

With everyone stuck indoors most of the time typing speeds will be improving by the day!
