Men pushing in in queues and not social distancing.

I know in the scheme of things this is only small but its the bloody entitlement that gets to me.

When the new Coronavirus Bill came in last Thursday two men used the 2 m gap to try to push in front while i was queuing outside Tesco.

Re, social distancing , i try i really try to stay 2m from people at all times on the rare occasions but the amount of men who walk right next to me or towards me KNOWING that i will move.

This afternoon was the final straw Queuing outside Sainsburys observing the 2 m rule i had to wait until the queue moved to where the trolleys were . There was no way i could get to them BEFORE queuing and observe the 2m rule so i had to wait in the queue before i got to them. I leant across to put my pound in the slot and the FOUR men queuing behind me jumped the queue by moving along in front.

Im so fed up with the entitlement Every time its been a man EVERY TIME. Ive not seen this from women at all .

Oh, are you all still here? Just checking. Good good.

Argumentative Rufus. I hear she can suggest a recipe and answer herself excitedly two seconds later when she decides to make it, but I don't know how the parmesan yorkshires turned out. She might be very cross with herself now.

BeetrootRocks · 06/04/2020 22:44

Well you brought it up goose as an analogy and it's a shit one.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/04/2020 22:43

When I say WTF it's usually because I think someone is being rather stupid. Stupidity provokes eye rolling rather than anger for me, though obviously ymmv.

R0wantrees · 06/04/2020 22:40

Clearly you feel very angry - hence the 'WTF'.....but I simply can't conform to the idea that all men are bastards..

When did someone saying WTF mean this was a 'clear' indication of anger?

Also who has said "all men are bastards" or required others to 'conform' to such an idea?

(seems a tad 'Milly Tant' no?)

Goosefoot · 06/04/2020 22:25

Do you never read the stats or anything around that topic?

It doesn't matter what the stats are about the example are as it's not the topic of the thread - a topic where there are no statistics available about male or female behaviour.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/04/2020 22:22

LOL! Rufus has to be one of the most amiable people on this board.

Mlou32 · 06/04/2020 22:20

Deary me @RufustheLanglovingreindeer you're determined for an argument, aren't you? You're exactly the type of person my gran means when she uses the expression 'could start WW3 in an empty room'.

Justhadathought · 06/04/2020 22:17

Rowantree, I appreciate that many women are in abusive and controlling relationships, and I understand the mechanisms of coercive control......

Justhadathought · 06/04/2020 22:14

Never actually had an accident though. When I was taking driving lessons as a teenager the instructor said that she loved teaching metalheads because we're generally fearless (can confirm), but also prone to speeding

I went through a few driving instructors before i found the right one for me......an elderly gentlemen who was calm, patient and very encouraging. The female instructor used to yell at me, and tell me it was " her car"......

I've never had an accident, but I do have the potential for the enjoyment of driving fast...I used to; especially on open country roads and motorways...and have the points to prove it......I don't anymore though......I'm really quite controlled now. And yes, I too love hard rock and PJ Harvey at her punk prime.

R0wantrees · 06/04/2020 22:11

I've never been in an intimate, abusive or controlling relationship with a man

Justhadathought · 06/04/2020 22:05

WTF do you think Feminism is committed to liberating women from, crying out loud

Clearly you feel very angry - hence the 'WTF'.....but I simply can't conform to the idea that all men are bastards...It is more about the social structures and cultures in which we all live, and/or were brought up in. Men included.

Once you have achieved equal legal and civil rights- then, for me, it is more about being liberated to, rather than from...but also recognise that these are probably both connected. So much of our own repression comes from internalised patterns and expectations.

I do acknowledge, however - of course, that many women - the world over - are subject to quite extreme abuse and oppression on account of their sex - which is what brings me here. It's not all about me. I appreciate that.

Justhadathought · 06/04/2020 21:58

Feminism is the political movement for the liberation of women.
WTF do you think Feminism is committed to liberating women from, fer crying out loud

I've never been in an intimate, abusive or controlling relationship with a man; and I'm also very much my father's daughter...,,My Father has been a very positive and encouraging influence in my life ( I'd say he's a feminist, in that he has always supported female freedom and emancipation). )I generally like men; have had male mentors; and get on with men - in general terms. Even as I recognise many negative aspects of 'male' behaviour.

That doesn't mean i can't be in support of women and girls being free to develop their potential and express their talents, skills and strengths........That is what feminism is about. It is about women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/04/2020 21:54

Statistics, like anecdata, can be dismissed if they don't help one win the argument which one has for unexplained reasons decided must be won at all costs.

BeetrootRocks · 06/04/2020 21:51

', it seems to me like a lot of fast drivers are men, I wonder if that might be a thing - and discuss it. Maybe everyone will have a similar observation, and maybe not, it might be revealing and it might leave the question unanswered.'

Do you never read the stats or anything around that topic?

What a strange analogy. Car incidents are a disproportionate killer of young men. That was why their insurance was so high (before gender neutral pricing rules and in).

So your analogy to say, who can know??!! Is well known and measurable with many statisical sources.

Try again?

Goosefoot · 06/04/2020 21:46

It was TWO occasions and SIX men

It doesn't really matter whether it was one or two or even three occasions, or one man or ten. It's still not enough to draw any real conclusions, and doesn't somehow over-ride anyone elses anecdotal observation.

We all need to have a little self awareness on this, it's one thing to say, gee, it seems to me like a lot of fast drivers are men, I wonder if that might be a thing - and discuss it. Maybe everyone will have a similar observation, and maybe not, it might be revealing and it might leave the question unanswered.

It's another thing altogether to state that there is this pattern and anyone who doesn't see it is denying your experience or is non-feminist.

YY Kittens i also suspect thats whats behind it.

I think people are getting a bit bored in lockdown, Helena. Telling women off on a forum you have a grudge against seems like an odd way to pass the time to me, but hey, takes all sorts I suppose.

HeIenaDove · 06/04/2020 19:50

Thats twice ive had to point that out

Are you going to go for a hat trick?

The OP posted examples and later replied direct to a post of mine that on 6 occasions men had behaved in an unacceptable manner

It was TWO occasions and SIX men. Ive already had to point this out to you. The first time you did it i gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was a mistake.

Now i know you are putting words in my mouth deliberately.

It was TWO occassions and SIX men.

Confirmation bias is huge on this forum, in general.
Some people would really like the feminist forum to be an echo chamber bubble with no dissenting opinions allowed.

DidoLamenting · 06/04/2020 19:38

This thread serves no purpose other than confirmation bias of the OP and like- minded souls.

The OP posted examples and later replied direct to a post of mine that on 6 occasions men had behaved in an unacceptable manner and to get back to her when 6 women had done the same.

She already had 5 examples from and I can easily add to that total but I can't be bothered because I'll be accused of stopping your conversation (which is utter nonsense) or being an MRA.

Some people, actually most people I've met are behaving properly, some are really going above and beyond what is necessary ; some people are selfish idiots. And do I need to point out who in Scotland currently can be named as the most selfish and idiotic person who contravened the rules?

There are serious issues in relation to the problems self- isolation and social distancing will cause in relation to violence in the home; this sort of confirmation bias point- scoring isn't one of them.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/04/2020 19:12

Some people would really like the feminist forum to stop being so bloody feminist. Which is odd, given that there are an abundance of non feminist forums to peruse.

I do know a few women who love driving fast, not as many as I know men but a few. One drives around in the sort of fancy little red sports car that police love to pull over because they associate it with reckless driving, so she gets pulled over a lot. Never actually had an accident though. When I was taking driving lessons as a teenager the instructor said that she loved teaching metalheads because we're generally fearless (can confirm), but also prone to speeding.

Melroses · 06/04/2020 17:02

Don’t these men also push in front of other men, or do they only do it to women?

I expect so, unless it is a man that looks like he might deck them one.
