This really is nauseating. A petition full of lies and misinformation has been posted on change.org in an attempt to prevent the LGB Alliance from being granted charity status.

As an old lesbian I am horrified that this kind of propaganda is being spread. Stonewall, the charity we set up and supported for decades has betrayed us completely. Their website now claims that homosexuality is a medical term for "orientation towards someone of the same gender".

Homosexuality is not, and never was an attraction to people who identify with the same gender based stereotypes. Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, and homosexuals are attracted to people of the same sex. Telling young lesbians that they are bigots and transphobes because they can't train themselves to "cope" with the "female" penis is horrendously cruel, and deeply homophobic. Bisexuals are attracted to both sexes, if they were also attracted to all genders they would call themselves pansexual, not bi. Stonewall went looking for a way to stay relevant and well funded after gay marriage was attained, latched on to transgenderism and has been lobbying to undermine our rights and legal protections ever since.

We never wanted to have to go our own way. We wanted the organisation we created, Stonewall, to stand up for our legal rights. Only when it became completely clear that they had no intention of doing so, and in fact were lobbying hard to change existing laws that protect our sex based rights and right to our own sexual orientation did a new organisation become necessary.

Nobody is working to undermine or destroy Stonewall, we are happy to leave them to continue their chosen work of centering transgender people, and those who happily identify themselves as queer, along with all the other letters of the alphabet. We have just given up on hoping that they will represent us, and have chosen to leave and set up our own representation. To claim this is evidence of transphobia is nonsense. We are fully within our rights to build a group that supports our own special needs.

The LGB alliance centres the needs of lesbians, gays and bisexuals and stands up for our rights, it was greeted with relief and joy by lesbians, gays and bisexuals who had been watching in horror as Stonewall worked to erase us from history and from our own organisation.

The petition is purposefully misleading, it quotes biased articles from Pink News as if they were academic reference papers. I've reported it for being misleading, homophobic and hateful, and hope you will too.

Allison Bailey, Garden Court Chambers:

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 30/03/2020 15:01

Lesbians, Gay men and Bisexuals of both sexes are perfectly legally entitled to organize around the issues pertaining to their sexuality, without reference to the genderist quasi-religious beliefs of anyone else.

It is not hate for LGB people to resist colonization by a group with a different agenda. And that is really all there is to it.

TinselAngel · 30/03/2020 14:53

Do we know what the result of Allison's chambers investigation was? R0?

R0wantrees · 30/03/2020 14:51

HorseRadishFemish the words of Allison Bailey are, in my opinion, 'fine' (of very high quality) :

I’ve recently had the privilege of joining and helping to get off the ground the newly formed the LGB Alliance. It’s an organisation that seeks to serve the interests and protect the rights of same-sex attracted people.

Contrary to what is being said online, we are emphatically not transphobic. We are not a transphobic organisation. However, we are opposed to the rank misogyny and homophobia that has found a home in too many parts of the modern trans movement. We are also opposed to the absence of all safeguarding measures that is intrinsic to the ideology of gender self-ID.

Finally, we are opposed to what we regard as an extremist trans agenda being advanced in a climate of deliberate fear and intimidation from all quarters, but that is specifically targeted at women, viciously, and especially viciously at women of colour." (continues)

8/11/19 Roll on Friday:
Lesbian barrister investigated for setting up LGB group
By Jamie Hamilton
(extract)
A lesbian barrister says she has been "thrown under the bus" by her chambers, which is investigating her for setting up a lesbian, gay and bisexual group that opponents claim is transphobic.

Allison Bailey, a barrister at Garden Court Chambers, has received death threats for promoting LGB Alliance on social media.

The new group says its aim is to "counteract the confusion" in the public sector between sex, which is biologically determined, and gender, which is a social construct often based on stereotypical characteristics of men and women.

LGB Alliance argues that homosexuality is same-sex attraction, putting it in opposition to the UK's largest LGBT charity, Stonewall, which now defines homosexuality as same-gender attraction. Stonewall’s interpretation enables male-bodied people to identify as lesbians and female-bodied people to identify as gay men.

Bailey said the "bigger picture" was that Stonewall had "signed up many companies, public bodies, voluntary organisations and government departments to their manifesto and their value system regarding trans rights", and has been "so successful" that the "planned compulsory education in primary and secondary schools from 2020 will tell children that 'gender identity' is a reality they need to understand".

Bailey's new group argues that telling children who do not conform to gender stereotypes that they are born in the wrong body is "damaging and regressive". It also believes that, contrary to the stance promoted by Stonewall and trans rights activists, sex "is not ‘assigned’ at birth but observed", and that the "soaring numbers of teenage girls suddenly presenting as trans is evidence of social contagion and discomfort about lesbianism". (continues)
Bailey said Garden Court had "simply gone along with what the hate mob want" and were "offering me no support whatsoever". She added that she had "no faith" its complaints process would be conducted fairly. One factor which might lead her to that conclusion is fellow Garden Chambers barrister Alex Sharpe, a transwoman and trans rights activist.

Sharpe, who presumably gives Bailey a wide berth at the office, has previously said lesbians should consider why they won't sleep with transwomen who identify as lesbians, and has implied that lesbians who don’t question their attraction to people of the same sex are being unethical. Referring to the ‘cotton ceiling’, a term coined by trans rights activists to describe lesbians' refusal to have sex with people with penises, Sharpe tweeted, "Cotton ceiling. There is nothing wrong with asking people to reflect on preferences where they exclude a whole class of ppl”. Sharpe added, “If X likes white guys, but only white guys, he should not be forced or pressured to have sex with non-white guys, but it might be ethical to reflect on why". (continues)

Here's a great speech from Kate Harris from the LGB Alliance at the Recent Make More Noise event where "hate crime" was discussed.

If only all those involved in this debate had a sense of humour like Kate:

"Rhona Hotchkiss, LLM, BSc (Hons), spent her working life in the public sector, firstly as a critical care nurse and then manager and for the last 10 years as a Governor in the Prison Service. She retired in March 2019. A life-long lesbian feminist, she has decided to speak openly about her experience of how gender self-id does and will impact on women in prison."

Allison Bailey twitter comment (from OP):
"I ask @ tinastowell @ ChtyCommission @ borisjohnson
not to give in to the trans bullies. They are an intolerant bunch who imagine that they can dictate who all LGB people must be in alliance with. It cannot be hateful for LGB people to seek to organise around sexual orientation.

It‘s not hateful to protect women’s & LGB people’s existing legal rights from notions of gender identity.

It’s not hateful to be curious about the exponential rise in girls reporting gender dysphoria, especially as many turn out to be lesbian or bisexual & not trans.

It’s not hateful to demand that children be allowed to grow into sexual, emotional & physical maturity, free from unscientific notions that they have been born in the wrong body & must modify themselves physically to live happy lives as stereotypically feminine or masculine.

LGB people do not need to be pro trans, although many of us are, these things cannot be dictated.

Contrary to the banners: Yes, there is a debate & no, no one can tell LGB people who we are to “Get with.”

AllianceLGB has lifted the lid on the vicious misogyny & homophobia that has been allowed to fester within the LGBT movement, as the T runs amuck.

stonewalluk had no mandate to declare that homosexuality was now same-gender attraction & not same-sex.

LGBA was founded by lesbians who came out of stonewalluk and the Gay Liberation Front. Women who fought all their adult lives for LGB rights. They are not the haters or the bigots.

WPUK Speech by Allison Bailey
A Woman's Place is at the lectern (Oxford, 25th October 2019)

transcript (sound quality is poor):
"Allison Bailey is a criminal defence barrister at Garden Court Chambers, London. She has nearly 20 years experience defending in cases of serious violence and complex organised crime. Allison has always supported the rights of gender-reassigned persons to live full lives, free from discrimination. However, she believes that in matters of public policy and law, including safeguarding and statistical gathering and analysis, biological reality must always come before gender identity. (continues)

As a 17-year old I came out as a lesbian in this town.

It was the era of s.28 of the Local Government Act 1988, when a craven tory government sought to deprive all support and guidance to young lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

I decided that I needed to go further afield if I was going to live my authentic life. At 17 I had a sense of the dramatic. Rather than bomb up the M40 to London, I decided that I needed to go to San Francisco to be with my people, and that is where I went and lived for 5 years. It was the early 1990s. It was the height of the AIDS epidemic. I lived on the Castro. We formed lasting bonds and allyship with our gay and transexual brothers and sisters who were dealing with that dreadful epidemic.

Those two moments in history have shaped and informed my life and they have cemented my commitment to the lesbian, gay and bisexual community, and — and it’s not an add-on, it’s sincere, my allyship with transsexual and transgender people, but not those who seek to erase my lived reality as a woman.

I have practised at the criminal bar for the past nearly 20 years. I specialise in criminal defence. I routinely deal with violent men and their victims. I am in no doubt that sex matters. And women matter.

27/2/202 Outnews Global interview:

(extract)
"We know that it’s only through engagement and at least trying to understand the points of view of others that we can strive to eliminate the toxic division which has marred our communities for so long.

That’s why we sent our editor, Rob Harkavy, to interview Kate Harris and Bev Jackson from the LGB Alliance. It’s fair to say that Kate and Bev hold firm opinions that many of you won’t agree with but we live in a society where free speech, within the bounds of the law, is paramount.

It’s in this spirit that we invite you to read on.

Can you explain why you set up the LGB Alliance?

In 2015, Stonewall decided to adopt an agenda promoting gender identity theory and set up their Trans Advisory Group. This meant abandoning its original mission to promote the rights of LGB people. According to gender identity theory, everyone has a gender identity (a feeling) that should take priority over biological sex – including in law making. In addition, Stonewall says that anyone should be able to change their sex simply by making a legal declaration, and that legislation giving women and girls their own sex-protected places should be repealed. Children should be taught that they may have been “born in the wrong body” if they differ in any way from 1950’s gender stereotypes. These ideas are not only controversial but harmful, yet all requests to discuss them are banned as Stonewall describes any questioning as “transphobic”.

We tried for two years to engage Stonewall in discussion, including a petition launched in October 2018, which received almost 10,000 signatures. Our request was simply that Stonewall would talk to us. Many other groups and individuals wrote to Stonewall expressing serious concern about the direction they had chosen to take – all were brushed aside. Since Stonewall refused to talk to us we had no choice but to set up as a separate group.

What are your key objectives?
To advance the interests of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals at a time when we are under threat from concerted attempts to introduce confusion between biological sex and the notion of gender.

To amplify the voices of lesbians and to highlight the dual discrimination we experience as women who are same-sex attracted in a male-dominated society. We support women’s reproductive rights and bodily autonomy.

To protect children and young people from being taught unscientific gender doctrines, particularly the idea that they may have been born in the wrong body, which may lead to life-changing and potentially harmful medical procedures.

To promote respectful freedom of speech and informed dialogue.

Are there any trans members of LGB Alliance?
We don’t have members. We are an LGB group which is lesbian led. We welcome support from anyone who shares our aims/objectives – be they straight, gay, lesbian, trans or whatever. (continues)

Why are we lesbian led? Because lesbians have been hardest hit by the promotion of gender identity theory by mainstream LGBT organisations. Attempts have been made to silence lesbians over the last few years and to ensure that there are no lesbians at Pride and other LGBT events. This is done with threats of violence and name calling on social media – phrases such as “Kill a TERF” are common.

Some lesbians have been extremely brave and successfully demonstrated against this exclusion. The group “Get the L Out” managed to delay the beginning of the Pride march in London in 2018. A group at Lancaster Pride held another demonstration in 2019 but were surrounded and shouted down by trans rights activists. A photo of this was subsequently tweeted by the Head of the Board of Trustees of Stonewall, praising the transactivists. Yes, really.

Lesbians are told that it is “transphobic” to be exclusively attracted to other women. According to gender identity theory, they should be open to considering biological males as potential partners, as gender is more important than sex, and if someone with a penis says he is a lesbian then he IS a lesbian. Hard to believe but true – as is evidenced by the fact that around 40% of individuals on dating sites for lesbians are people with male bodies." (continues)

*Do you have a message for the Labour leadership candidates who signed that infamous pledge?^

By signing the infamous pledge that labels us a “hate group”, the Labour leadership candidates showed that they knew nothing about our aims and the reason we founded our organisation. They also showed ignorance about what a “hate group” actually is, which is disturbing in itself, since hate groups do exist. In so readily signing a pledge that defamed us without thinking it necessary to meet us and find out more about us, these candidates showed that they were pandering to a particular group of the Labour party, for whom they were willing casually to defame others. We would invite them to meet with us and discover who we really are, after which we are sure they will want to apologise and retract their endorsement of the parts of the pledge that refer to us." Stonewall went looking for a way to stay relevant and well funded after gay marriage was attained, latched on to transgenderism and has been lobbying to undermine our rights and legal protections ever since

Steal that's a really interesting perspective. Douglas Murray calls this 'St. George in retirement syndrome' and transgenderism seems to be the perfect vehicle for it. It's absurd that the LGB Alliance are facing hate group accusations. Those making them are determined to sever words from their meanings in their on going attempt to remake external reality via linguistic control.....

I’ve read the petition. Perhaps the OP would state what they believe constitute ‘lies and misinformation’ as it appears quite accurate to me. Hate groups should not be granted charitable status... LGB Alliance was recently censured by the Advertising Standards Authority for publishing misleading adverts opposing reform to the GRA in the pres MMm! Again, as a lawyer I would expect you to be more accurate with your words.

And nobody here no platforms.... I forgot to copy and paste my own complaint but it focussed very heavily on NOT silencing ANY side of a debate! Something that ONLY TRAs seem to be doing all the time, every time. NO PLATFORMING was the basis of my complaint about that petition!

If you REALLY want to speak up for trans individuals it would be good if you could be as open minded as some, ready and willing to debate this, talk about a workable compromise to these conflicting rights, of us have been for many tears now... talk to me rather than at me, iyswim!
