They make Veronica look ludicrous.

There are people keeping tabs on the person currently called Veronica Ivy and their various careers. Veronica has been getting on with Veronica's usual behaviour of claims, which are either true and mysteriously fall through at the last minute; or were completely made up to start with. I do not make any assertions either way. I merely observe here that many of the things Veronica says will happen do not happen.

This applies to their more controversial activities as well as their mundane day to day life.

FWIW Gary was always called a goal hanger so it's right that he popped the set up from everyone else in the back of the net

Grin
FloralBunting · 12/03/2020 20:34

Dickpanderers.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/03/2020 20:12

Look feminists, remember that we are dried up, frigid old hags with no sense of humour. Letting the bloody side down.

FWIW Gary was always called a goal hanger so it's right that he popped the set up from everyone else in the back of the net.

Just kidding Gary, you were never a goal-hanger.

MrsSnippyPants · 12/03/2020 20:07

Join the queue Tinsel, join the queue...... Grin

TinselAngel · 12/03/2020 19:50

OT, but I'd like to do things to Guy Garvey.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:22

*embery

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:21

yes its craig potter- hes been great.

im not surprised by gary L- w/c men arent buying into this. i see it as more a m/c male movement.

i have a terrible crush on paul embury.

RuffleCrow · 12/03/2020 18:14

Same here @Oncewasblueandyellowtwo! I must have been about 11 when it started

Binterested · 12/03/2020 18:14

Not seen anything from Guy but Craig (Potter?) has a sensible timeline and is clearly all over this agenda in a good way. He was on the Billy Bragg thread telling Billy he was wrong.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 12/03/2020 18:12

Helmetbymidnight, what did you mean by the key from Elbow - please say you mean Guy Garvey, as I am a big fan and it would be great to hear he has also seen the light.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:11

its really good- and hopefully will make the candidates for the labour leadership and their stupid fecking pledge look even more pathetic.

Binterested · 12/03/2020 18:08

Linford, Daley and Gary - all titans of sport and all of them have said a bit. Maybe if they came together and made a statement - with Martina, Sharron, Kelly - then we would start to get strength in numbers.

Also what an absolute bunch of winners. I mean just brilliant, brilliant sports people ❤️ They make Veronica look ludicrous. Imagine Daley stooping to that level - it’s inconceivable. Ditto Sharron and all the others. They are proper proper talents.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:03

Amazing how we have all been silenced.

I want to see studies on this...

Binterested · 12/03/2020 18:02

Nobody does really. No one thinks this is ok. Amazing how we have all been silenced.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:01

And he was a huge and outspoken Remainer and anti-racist campaigner. It's not like he doesn't think about what's going on in the world.

MrsSnippyPants · 12/03/2020 18:01

Linford is still speaking out (well, swearing!)

Helmetbymidnight · 12/03/2020 18:00

Now Gary Linekar is a bedfellow I can get on with. Grin

Plus the keys from Elbow has been very vocal recently.

DH and I are football parents, and we know - from subtle, hints etc, most parents don't think transwomen in women's sports is acceptable at all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/03/2020 17:27

And yet compared to Billy Bragg, Owen Jones, Jon Ronson and the rest of the wokebros, he's Germaine Fucking Greer.

Worth repeating.

aliasundercover · 12/03/2020 16:25

I'm slightly suspicious that he has seen which way the wind is blowing, and isn't a natural champion of women

I think that’s a little unfair. Linekar has always been thoughtful - he doesn’t just blast out tweets without considering things. The “let’s all be kind” argument is attractive and hard to resist; if you don’t think much about trans issues it can initially seem the best way to go - I know that’s how I used to think myself.
It took a young, male thug attacking a woman in her sixties at Speakers Corner before I started looking in to things. Apart from a few far-sighted women it’s taken something similar to peak-trans all of us.

Linekar could just keep his head down - nobody has asked him about this.

zanahoria · 12/03/2020 16:11

Gary just likes sport and fairplay, he has always been an advocate for people getting involved. He has also shown due respect for. women's football and. female Olympians. The brevity of his post suggests he will. not be a major cheerleader, he may say no more but he could encourage other people in sport to speak up.
I wouldn't criticise anyone for being late. JK Rowling backed down with her 'middle aged moment' but came back again and has made a difference.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2020 16:07

He's presumably just a regular bloke who like most humans from preschoolers upwards can accurately tell someone's sex, and who isn't actively anti women's rights.

(The mere mention of Owen Jones gets laughs on R4 Friday comedy shows too, btw)

RoyalCorgi · 12/03/2020 16:02

There's nothing feminist about him!

I'm sure he's not. And yet compared to Billy Bragg, Owen Jones, Jon Ronson and the rest of the wokebros, he's Germaine Fucking Greer.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/03/2020 16:01

The brocialists and 'this is what a feminist looks like' men are absent, not just late

The 'this is what a man who wants feminism to somehow be about men' crowd...ok, maybe unfair on some of them who meant well. (Weirdly there is a dearth of 'this is what a feminist ally' t shirts. )
