Is this offensive or am I snowflake ?

For some reason, this tweet came up in my feed today - I find it highly offensive - I'm pro-choice and believe women should have access to safe and free abortions if they want them. But I think this tweet totally underminds the fact that 68 000 women die every year of unsafe abortions - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2709326/ .
I did actually DM the author of the tweet to let them know how offensive I thought it was - and explained as nicely as possible that I was pro-choice but that I thought it totally undermined how traumatic and damaging abortion, even chosen abortion, can be for some women and the fact that the people who die from abortion are women.

I got a reply back basically accusing me of being anti-choice and telling me it is just a joke to piss off conservatives.

I'm furious - and I know it's just a tweet and not worth getting worked up about - but I just find it so horrific.

Am I the snowflake here ?

Twitter encourages this type of shit. I don't use it

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 10/03/2020 09:43

I've had an abortion, and the morning after pill, a miscarriage, and late periods, and 2 kids.

All with varying levels of discomfort, pain, risk, trauma and long-term effects (TBH, the babies were obviously the worst there). I think what's offensive is being flippant about it.

Like this idea that the morning after pill is just something you can take. I found it very unpleasant, with the physical effects lasting for nearly a month - it's not something I would choose to do on a whim, it's not something to be taken lightly.

'Lots of ways for women to get an orgasm that don’t risk an unwanted pregnancy, not dating penis-people being the most obvious one'

Oh please! It’s a male born person that identifies as trans. Do you seriously think they’re actually give a fuck about how women feel about abortion? Why have you even bothered posting this, OP. Male bodied people who ridicule women’s lives and experiences are best ignored. Why are you giving them oxygen.

KonTikki · 10/03/2020 08:06

That tweet is written to get a rise out of people. Ignore and move on.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 10/03/2020 08:02

Interesting use of the word snowflake in the thread title.

But yes, anyone who tweets glibly about abortion isn’t worth engaging with.

midgebabe · 10/03/2020 07:27

Utterly disrespectful and ignorant of the feelings of many women - the complexity and depth of feelings that women experience around abortion and unwanted pregnancy , utterly missing the biological reality that a pregnant woman can feel attachment and horror at the same time.

DuLANGDuLANGDuLANG · 10/03/2020 00:42

I’m a big fan of sex but no single sexual encounter is worth the inconvenience, financial costs and health risks of early pregnancy and scheduling/recovering from a TOP.

Lots of ways for women to get an orgasm that don’t risk an unwanted pregnancy, not dating penis-people being the most obvious one 🤗

Mlou32 · 09/03/2020 22:31

That tweet is clearly from an attention seeker hoping to get attention by way of likes and replies to her comment.

janeskettle · 09/03/2020 22:03

What an idiot.

I've had abortions. I don't think an abortion is a disaster.
That is not how I would speak about it to others.

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 21:03

Being prochoice doesn't logically entail thinking embryos/foetuses are "nobodies".
It's a very distasteful post

I'm pro-choice and would never want to ban or limit access to abortion.

However that is because I think abortion is often the least worst option. The reality is the majority of aborted foetuses if not aborted would have gone on to become people. I don't think abortion should be treated flippantly.

Sypha · 09/03/2020 19:29

That ignorant arse is a misogynistic male showboating on Twitter. He's got no skin in the game and never will. Ignore and move on.

And fuck that shit.

Thisisoffensiveright · 09/03/2020 19:07

@mindtheclegs

And yes - I did name change - my twitter account is in my real name - connected to my work etc - so I didn’t want to post under my usual name just in case - because that would have the possibility of outing a lot of my private life that I have posted about on Mumsnet.

@mindtheclegs
I have now blocked and ignored

BeetrootRocks · 09/03/2020 19:01

Oh. A bogstandard misogynist then.

This is the sort of shit incels come out with about why women need to be controlled by men.

mindtheclegs · 09/03/2020 18:57

Yes.. @OP if you're not a troll but have just name-changed for this, don't engage. It's just a boy so ignore

nsav · 09/03/2020 18:53

This is someone who was born a male and is now a trans woman so will never experience abortion. What a dick

1066vegan · 09/03/2020 18:53

It's probably a mistake but I've clicked on the link and replied to the tweet.

Thisisoffensiveright · 09/03/2020 18:50

@BeetrootRocks
Yep - I've just blocked now - still trying to figure out why it popped up in my timeline though... Maybe because I retweeted a lot of international women's rights things this weekend.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 09/03/2020 18:49

My thoughts exactly nauticant an immature child who'll do anything for attention and screaming AGP.

This person will never need or experience abortion, best ignored.

Thinkingabout1t · 09/03/2020 18:49

It looks very like anti-abortion propaganda to me.

BeetrootRocks · 09/03/2020 18:46

Christ don't bother engaging.

Person is a callous, unthinking pillock with zero life experience and no understanding of, well, anything.

HarrietThePi · 09/03/2020 18:46

It reads to me like a tweet from a teenage boy who is trying to shock. It isn't nice, but I wouldn't give it the attention that I believe the author wants.

PreseaCombatir · 09/03/2020 18:46

Tbh, if I saw that, I’d think the person was joking, in that being purposely ‘edgy’ and antagonistic way.
Not that I think it’s funny, but I would assume they ‘thought’ they were being

But I always think people are being sarcastic, and then find out they were serious, and am like Confused
So I think my tone radar is well off.

BeetrootRocks · 09/03/2020 18:44

Also those who abort due to disability incompatible with life, or they will die, those types of heart wrenching situations.

Yeah they must be trolling no one is that stupid and callous.
