Labour suspends Trevor Phillips because he identified who made up child grooming gangs

Trevor Phillips is the former chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission - and he's recently been accused of 'transphobia' for saying women's same-sex spaces should be protected.

He's now been suspended by Labour for accurately saying that the majority of members of northern grooming gangs, which sexually abused tens of thousands of vulnerable girls, were Pakistani Muslim men.

One of the main reasons why the girls were put at risk was because the police and local authorities didn't want to intervene in case they were accused of Islamophobia.

Labour's war on both women and the freedom to say things that are true is not going away.

OP you are wrong. I have read the full reports into cases like Rotherham. The main reason girls were put at risk was because professionals like the police thought they were just "slags" rather than victims.

Yes, I've read the various reports too. What do you think OP has said which is wrong? Institutional fear of appearing racist, particularly in the local authority, was absolutely one of the factors. There were several.

HorseWithNoLang · 09/03/2020 08:57

Where are the NAPMALTers?

Usually there would have been about three by now..

Mishal Husein's interview with the bloke from the Muslim Council of Great Britain just now was woeful. She didn't challenge him at all. He accused Philips of cherry-picking and then went on to cherrypick.

As for his accusations that Philips said that fostering a Christian child in a Muslim family is child abuse, that isn't what he said. He said that placing a child into a very strict burqa wearing non English speaking family who took the child's crucifix away was abusive. It wasn't the family who he said were abusive, it was tower hamlets.

Apparently there is an 11 page letter of accusations.

But it's okay to be anti Semitic because Jews deserve all they get eh Jennie?

MidnightJasmine · 09/03/2020 08:54

Bezalelle

I did not imply that the majority of Muslims support grooming gangs, what I said is the Labour Party still ignore it, in fear of losing the block vote - it isn't me that thinks and acts on that, it's the Labour Party, so who is racist?

Please feel free to Google CSE victim, Victoria Agogolia and Operation Augusta the ongoing scandal in GMCA. Even the Coroner lied to cover up her death. It is only now there is an emerging CSE scandal in Oldham a town with a history of race riots that GMCA a Labour run Council decided to do anything about it.

I'm ... Dunno... Boggled at the utter stupidity of a party that can throw out one of its most respected members because he said something that is true.

Uncomfortably true, but true nonetheless.

The contrast between this and Labour's handling of anti-Semitism is stark. It makes the party look stupid, venal and ideologically nutty in one single hit.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/03/2020 08:43

Philips would be an excellent person to start my proposed Party For Leftists Who're Not Batshit Crazy, if he finds himself at a loose end.

ChattyLion · 09/03/2020 08:40

What the fuck are Labour on? Seriously. Where’s the self reflection. The political leadership. The acceptance of responsibility. The safeguarding of important democratic principles. Are they acting out one of their stages of grief or something.. the lashing out phase? If they were a person I would be really worried about them. They’re leaving so many of us with nobody to vote for. It’s a political tragedy what they are doing to themselves and I am very sad that they are trying to take down Trevor Philips.

jadefinch · 09/03/2020 08:40

Just heard him on LBC - the parallels with transphobia are so clear.

If I understood him, he said he's been suspended for 'Islamophobia' for 'targeting Muslimness' in an article he wrote several years ago about the Rotherham grooming gang. But when he previously asked the party for a definition of 'Muslimness' they failed to give him one.

Labour cannot define what transphobia or islamophobia is, but will still nonetheless suspend members for them.

And at the same time it can define what anti-Semitism is but won't suspend members for meeting the criteria.

Labour know their majority vote in small towns like mine, rely on the Muslim vote to maintain power

This implies that all Muslims are fine with grooming gangs, and would not support a leader who criticised them. This assumption is pretty islamophobic itself.

xxyzz · 09/03/2020 08:39

Seriously isn't it bleeding obvious why they have picked on Trevor Phillips now?

He was the former head of the EHRC, which Labour are DESPARATE to attack, as it is due to report on massive anti-Semitism in Labour any day now. And they are about to be found hugely guilty. Corbyn's inner circle - particularly Formby, who is about to be found personally responsible for the worst excesses of Labour anti-Semitism, are searching for any stick to beat the EHRC with, and some of their more cultish, racist members will happily swallow that the investigation into Labour anti-Semitism is all part of an Islamophobic plot.

Join the dots, people!

Mrsjayy · 09/03/2020 08:39

But it was a network of Pakistani men that is well known it wasn't islamaphobic it was fact.

MidnightJasmine · 09/03/2020 08:39

I think this has been purposely done now as local elections are in May and Labour are trying to capitalise on the Tory Party Islamaphobia allegations, because it's the only thing they have going for them.

MidnightJasmine · 09/03/2020 08:35

Sarah Champion is still an active member of the Labour Party and didn't get dismissed.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/03/2020 08:35

If someone prominent would start the Left But In A Sane Way party they'd be doing us all a favour.

Thinkingabout1t · 09/03/2020 08:34

I could weep. The tories and their supporters have dismantled this country’s economy over the past 40 years and had a good kick at society too. Their dishonesty and incompetence have been exposed time and again.

How can Labour have failed to throw them out? What is this self- destructive mania? More insanity every day — I don’t dare look at the news any more.

We need an effective opposition! We need a Labour Party that anyone in their right mind would vote for! Oh god. Every day now i dread the next bit of gobshitery.

Why don’t they just run a publicity campaign promising that for every vote cast for Labour in the next election, the leader of the Labour Party will kill a kitten?

Then they can just fuck off into oblivion.

TP said that this is the offending document

Babdoc · 09/03/2020 08:32

One can only hope that when the completely opposing ideologies of Islamophobia and Transphobia meet head on, the Labour Party will implode! And perhaps the few remaining sane members will crawl out of the wreckage and start again.

MidnightJasmine · 09/03/2020 08:30

Labour keep very quiet on their self ID policies in Northern towns it's not something they use in their campaigns or advertising for the reason that Muslims are not in favour of it.

theflushedzebra · 09/03/2020 08:29

Yeah Sarah Campion was forced out of JC's Cabinet.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/03/2020 08:29

This is the first time in my life that I've ever been glad not to have a Labour government. What else are they going to fuck up? What's left, really? Every single time they have to pick a side they pick the wrong one. They seem to be institutionally incapable of recognizing the fact that it's possible to be a member of a minority group and at the same time be utterly in the wrong, sometimes in criminal ways.

Cwenthryth · 09/03/2020 08:28

He’s on LBC now.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/03/2020 08:28

Enjoyed listening to him on the Today programme.

Floisme · 09/03/2020 08:28

Sarah Champion and others have said exactly the same and not faced consequences,
Not the same consequences but I think Champion was either sacked or forced to resign from the Cabinet? (Sorry can't check right now.)

What's kind of amusing is that Labour were too cowardly to grasp the nettle but then still lost Rother Valley anyway.

IrmaFayLear · 09/03/2020 08:27

trying to corner the interviewee into a juicy unrepresentative sound bite.

True. I read the other day that there is a return to discussion - with appropriate questioning - rather than constantly going for that "gotcha" moment with interviewees.
