Labour suspends Trevor Phillips because he identified who made up child grooming gangs

Trevor Phillips is the former chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission - and he's recently been accused of 'transphobia' for saying women's same-sex spaces should be protected.

He's now been suspended by Labour for accurately saying that the majority of members of northern grooming gangs, which sexually abused tens of thousands of vulnerable girls, were Pakistani Muslim men.

One of the main reasons why the girls were put at risk was because the police and local authorities didn't want to intervene in case they were accused of Islamophobia.

Labour's war on both women and the freedom to say things that are true is not going away.

Labour's problems in this area aren't just limited to the Corbyn wing - Jacqui Smith was Home Secretary when the policy was to accept underage girls as having made a 'lifestyle choice' rather than actually do anything about it. Starmer's imminent win won't make all this go away.

What are you talking about @ficklephyliss?

I recently re-joined this forum and gosh, I'm afraid you're all so much worse than I remember.

Since "not knowing" what Islamophobia is seems to be an issue, here is the APPG definition.

Or perhaps you'll consider it "group think" - or whatever bizarre theory you'll come up with to excuse the Islamophobia you want to push.

and now I need a shower.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/03/2020 15:47

I live in a town with a large Asian population and it is established knowledge that they all vote Labour.

Clymene · 09/03/2020 14:48

It's just another version of NAMALT. With an accusation of being right wing and racist thrown in.

PerfectParrot · 09/03/2020 14:22

would flatly deny there were any issues, no matter how many people asked for help.

I think we have just seen a micro version of that on this thread. A pp reporting what has / is happening in some schools in some areas and being met with accusations of being a right winger. There are plenty of those of us on the left who acknowledge that there are some uncomfortable truths that must be faced if we are to properly protect women and girls.

TedsFederationRep · 09/03/2020 14:13

Endofthelinefinally, it's one poster.

I believe you.

Based on my own experience, I believe you utterly.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/03/2020 14:12

Well, it wasn't just right wing memes that were asking for more police presence. Local community groups (mostly Muslim and Asian) also asked for more police cover. Police decided not to attend Eid al Fitr celebrations one year so as not to appear 'heavy handed' - this was an openly made decision - there were several violent incidents, utter chaos, and the police decision was widely condemned. It was a terrifying place to live. I can understand the difficulties facing the police, and to be honest I wouldn't have wanted to attend that area, either. It was a terrifying place to live.

I also don't doubt that right winger and racists have latched onto all of this and try to politicise it. The trouble was that so many left wingers from outwith the area (or the SNP) would flatly deny there were any issues, no matter how many people asked for help.

endofthelinefinally · 09/03/2020 14:09

I don't want this thread to descend into a row.
I have managed over 60 years without being accused of lying.
I am leaving the thread now.
Everyone has different personal experiences.

TedsFederationRep · 09/03/2020 14:08

It's quite extraordinary, isn't it?

Indeed, Bovary.

I experienced problems time and time again doing my job as a prison governor because Pakistani and Bangladeshi men in custody refused to acknowledge that I had any authority whatsoever. Because I am a woman.

There's another "right wing lie" then.

🙄

BovaryX · 09/03/2020 14:05

Are you dismissing the real life experiences of a PP's mother, friends and relatives as "right wing lies"?

It's quite extraordinary, isn't it?

BovaryX · 09/03/2020 14:03

And you said they respond to reports about hate crime. I was explaining why that was the case.

Nope. You haven't explained why police are investigating Harry Miller's thinking, at the behest of a niche lobby who want to cancel freedom of speech, whilst they fail to investigate crimes like burglary which blights communities. Only 1 in 9 people have confidence in the police to investigate crime. That's a problem which the upper echelons of the police show zero signs of addressing. By the way, no need to use @.

TedsFederationRep · 09/03/2020 14:03

Nobody is saying they are making it up. But you are repeating right wing lies.

Well, either they are making it up or they aren't. Which is it?

Are you dismissing the real life experiences of a PP's mother, friends and relatives as "right wing lies"?

Seriously?

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 13:56

@BovaryX No I am not suggesting that and did not say that. I have read the full report.
My comments were in relation to one poster claiming there were no go areas because police do not always respond when you ring the police. And you said they respond to reports about hate crime.
I was explaining why that was the case.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 09/03/2020 13:45

There are also schools in all-white or nearly so areas where there is a huge amount of racism openly expressed and the school will say that "We" don't have a problem because "We" don't have any of "Them" here.

BovaryX · 09/03/2020 13:43

There will be specific police officers allocated to deal with hate crime. The allocation is wrong, but politically driven. When you phone the police it is the response team that get sent out. There are far too few of them. I mean dangerously scary too few

alloutof
Are you suggesting that a lack of cops was responsible for the police failures to investigate grooming gangs circa 2000 onwards? That is not the conclusion of the report. One of the most outrageous things about this grooming is it was taking place in full view of the authorities Girls were being collected from children's homes and those who tried to raise concerns, like Ann Cryer, Labour MP for Keighley, were vilified.

n Asian grooming gang was free to roam the streets and abuse young girls because police officers were told to “find other ethnicities” to investigate, a detective has claimed. At least 57 young girls are thought to have been exploited by a paedophile network of around 100 suspected perpetrators based in south Manchester in the 2000s. The gang, mainly comprised of Asian men, hooked their victims on drugs, groomed, and sexually abused them. One girl, aged 15, died after being injected with heroin by a 50-year-old man.

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 13:36

Nobody is saying they are making it up. But you are repeating right wing lies.
As I said some schools are terrible at supporting teachers in the classroom around discipline. Others are very good and would come down on this like a ton of bricks.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 09/03/2020 13:36

It is absolutely real. There are young men from certain backgrounds who are raised in houses where it is accepted knowledge that white western women are drunken promiscuous whores by comparison with good muslim girls who dress modestly and never go out.

There are other households of similar origins where this is not the case.

endofthelinefinally · 09/03/2020 13:32

My poor old mum had a horrific experience in one such locality. She was terrified. It still happens. I have a couple of friends who taught in secondary school in the same area. Both changed careers because they were called whores and slags constantly and threatened and intimidated.
I have relatives working in local government who are seriously constrained wrt what they are allowed to say.
Still. Perhaps they are all just making it up.

DidoLamenting · 09/03/2020 13:28

I suppose the Labour big wigs will simply dismiss the vast number of comments supporting Trevor Phillips on the Mail and Times websites as just being by right wingers who would never vote Labour anyway. They are of course wrong.

The comments on both sites are same and reasonable. The "up voting" on the Mail site is into 4 figures on the top comments. But none of that will make any difference to the Labour cabal.

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 13:27

Sad to hear about that in Glasgow. Where I lived there were multi disciplinary meetings to tackle Asian gangs. They didn't recognise the girls as victims until more recently, but they did tackle gangs.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/03/2020 13:23

allout, it was fairly well known at the time. Things may have changed since then - I really hope so.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/12411888.scared-police-unable-to-stop-asian-gangs-officers-wary-of-racism-charges-in-some-areas/

For what it's worth, I thought all of this was myth rooted in racism, until I actually moved to the area and lived there for three years. It's very, very uncomfortable for middle class whites to confront this - there are complex issues, including poverty, conflicts from other ethnic groups (mostly East European in the south of Glasgow), inter gnerational tension, drugs, etc.
