That is literally what you are doing on this thread

A winning combination of ignorance and arrogance.

theflushedzebra · 09/03/2020 00:33

How do you know that your child is a girl? That’s very presumptuous of you.

Well, Robin thought there was some confusion on how we tell who the females of the human race are upthread - so over to you Orwx. How did you know that your child was female? You say you don't care "what's in anyone's pants" - so how do you know she's your daughter?

Just to be clear - I was always very clear on what sex my three children were, I found out at their 20 week scans. And the midwife observed and recorded it at their birth.

I'm sad that anyone thinks 'respectful' is a laudable quality for a 4 year old girl.

theflushedzebra · 09/03/2020 00:26

Well said, McCanne.

McCanne · 09/03/2020 00:20

I want to jump on the ‘I have a 4 year old theme’ here. So do I. What she likes ‘as a girl’ is irrelevant, because none of it makes her more of a girl or less of a girl. She’s a female human child. A daughter. Do you know what she’ll never be? A boy. A man. A male. She’ll always be female and will always, always be included in feminism no matter what battles she has in her life. It’s for her rights and the rights of all her sisters. Whether they want it or not, if they want to identify out of being a woman, feminism includes all women and will always be here for them. Men are not female, they’re not feminists either, so just give it a rest and stop doing patriarchy’s work.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 09/03/2020 00:17

My daughter is 4 years old and she is more respectful and feminist than any of you.

How do you know that your child is a girl? That’s very presumptuous of you.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 09/03/2020 00:11

My daughter will not be told she must be feminine or she's not a real woman. That is literally what you are doing on this thread

No we are not.
What makes a woman?
If it isn't biology what is it?
How do you feel like a woman?
How can someone raised male, with all of the privilege that is given to them, know what it is like to be a woman?

What TRAs are doing is telling us woman is a feeling and that liking pink and "girly" things makes someone a woman.

All the feminists are doing is pushing back and saying that gender is a construct used by misogynists to keep women in their place, and that we should abolish gender and concentrate on sex and sex based rights.

But hey, you keep telling yourself that all is fine.
I will keep in fighting for sex segregation in certain circumstances, so that my daughter, and yours, are kept safe.

McCanne · 09/03/2020 00:11

Belated happy IWD to all the women just getting on with life being the women they are and refusing to let men redefine you and redefine sisterhood, as they always do in one way or another.

As for what I was doing this IWD, I was just woman-ing around raising a daughter. I didn’t attend any IWD events. I’m effing shattered.

R0wantrees · 09/03/2020 00:10

My daughter will not be told she must be feminine or she's not a real woman. That is literally what you are doing on this thread.
Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 09/03/2020 00:10

Orwx - that's great re your dD, but you've missed the point entirely with 'My daughter will not be told she must be feminine or she's not a real woman. That is literally what you are doing on this thread. '

'Gender critical' feminists are precisely the women who don't give a shit about whether someone is 'feminine'. Being a women merely depends on being female. You're mixing up sex and 'gender'.Confused

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2020 00:09

My daughter will not be told she must be feminine or she's not a real woman. That is literally what you are doing on this thread.

It literally isn't.

BingBongSong · 09/03/2020 00:06

Barracker
That was a fun week of feminism, I must say!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2020 00:05

All women are female. Please come up with a non circular definition of woman otherwise. I celebrate all women on IWD. Even those who for their own reasons choose to put men's interests first in a variety of ways.

Orwx · 09/03/2020 00:05

@herroyalcarbyless
My daughter is a very happy child. She is allowed to be whatever she wants.
One day she is dressed as a princess and pretends to be a mother. The next she is playing with all of her dinosaurs and monster trucks. She knows the name and diet of 46 different dinosaurs! Shes obsessed. The weekends are spent in the woods usually getting muddy or playing cricket.
But these things aren't gendered. If a toy is only suitable for someone with certain genitalia then it's not suitable for any child!

She's kind. I teach her to be kind. The same way I would treat my son (if I had one) to be kind and empathetic. She is also taught to stand up for what she believes in and not allow anyone to oppress her.

My daughter will not be told she must be feminine or she's not a real woman. That is literally what you are doing on this thread.

My daughter can be whoever she wants to be.

Right, I'm off to sleep now. Toodle pip.

theflushedzebra · 09/03/2020 00:04

A fabulous addition to this IWD thread, Bing Wine

Thank you - that can never be linked to too much.

I remember that meeting well too, bingbongsong 😉

Barracker · 09/03/2020 00:03

Man is a neutral word.
It references that a person belongs to the male reproductive class.
That's literally all it entails.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Most people who describe themselves as 'transwomen' understand perfectly that they belong to the male reproductive class.
And most 'transwomen' who visit Mumsnet know perfectly well that when a feminist here observes a person to be a man, they are observing nothing more or less than the fact that he is the opposite reproductive class to women. Opposite class to us.

It's not remotely an insult for a woman to reference a man's reproductive class, which he knows perfectly well himself.

It's horribly insulting to layer stereotypes onto my reproductive class and demand we agree with a male redefinition of woman.
Especially on IWD.

Anyway, it's now past midnight.
Back to 364 man days again.
Happy adult human male days, to all of the male posters on Mumsnet. I hope you enjoy your natural biological sex as much as I enjoy mine.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/03/2020 00:02

cf Dr Julia Long's speech at Speakers' Corner

Great speech, thanks for the link R0. Julia is awesome ThanksWine

BingBongSong · 09/03/2020 00:02

I know I post it at every opportunity, but I remember how this meeting galvanised me into action. And given that some seem to want this thread derailed, let's celebrate these wonderful women on IWD.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 09/03/2020 00:01

Why do you think being a man is an insulting thing to be?
Er........ nope, I can't even.
It isn't.
Can't be arsed further than that tbh. Not worth it.
All I originally said was Happy International Women's Day to all women and I stand by that.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 08/03/2020 23:59

Not particularly a fan of the word myself but not sure the logic behind saying trans woman a man isn't an insult when it clearly is.

Why is an insult to state a biological fact? Why do you think being a man is an insulting thing to be? Do you hate men that much?

theflushedzebra · 08/03/2020 23:56

But transwomen are male. It's stating a fact.

And feminism is for females - the clue is in the name.

OP posts:
R0wantrees · 08/03/2020 23:55

A man is an adult human male.

BingBongSong · 08/03/2020 23:55

Thanks, Zebra! I just found it on YouTube, will watch it tomorrow.

I'm trying to find the Standing for Women meeting from Sept 2018, with this wonderful Sheros, Sweary, Jean, Anne and Julia. Will post it when I find the link.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 08/03/2020 23:49

but calling a trans woman a man isn't? Haha. Right
Yep, not sure how that one works myself lol
