Not sure if anyone had seen this yet but came across it on twitter... Some choice comments in support of her on Twitter...

Did do a quick look but couldn't find any other thread on here about it.

Can't seem to create a clicky link on my phone so will do one later when I have access to the pc, but you can cut and paste for now.

But the mass of the student body simply have better things to do.

Good point Errol I should think that there is also a sharp distinction according to degree subject. The prevalence of wokery in social sciences like sociology is likely to eclipse the numbers in civil engineering.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/02/2020 10:33

Probably getting a bit OT but that's in the Times too

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/degrees-dont-pay-off-for-fifth-of-graduates-r30l922rz?shareToken=838a22675c881846c9e8af09a012ad09

I'm not sure if that's directly relevant tbh. There is and always has been an issue with student politics that those with less full timetables have more time and energy for involvement. Zealots, of course, will make time even at the expense of their studies. But the mass of the student body simply have better things to do.

If reality and facts are 'unsafe' - meaning mentally challenging, causing of trauma - the answer is a good therapist and taking responsibility for dealing with your own distorted thinking.

The expectation of the whole world pretending alternate universe is ridiculous, it's extreme immaturity and distortion of thinking.

margotsdevil · 29/02/2020 10:26

The current generation of students have also gone through a school system where their "voice" was of utmost importance. Those of us over the age of 30 didn't have a school experience anything like that. Pupils are now routinely involved in interviewing staff in schools for example; they EXPECT their opinions to matter and will quickly complain if they don't - universities are now having to adapt to this too.

BovaryX · 29/02/2020 10:24

Correction. It's 1 in 5 would be better off if they had not entered tertiary education.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/02/29/one-five-people-go-university-would-financially-better-had-not/

BovaryX · 29/02/2020 10:22

This is Bloody Blair and his 50% target. Working-class kids have not benefitted. The idiot chldren of the sharp-elbowed pushy middle-classes have colonised the universities and brought their fluffy-headed crap with them.

Bingo! There is an article in the Telegraph stating only 1 in 5 degrees are worth the expanding costs. 50 per cent was a ludicrous target. Its effects have been to cheapen tertiary education, whilst inflating its costs. Another stellar achievement from Team Bankrupt.

The quote was:

One of the tweets sent by Economics lecturer Eva Poen read: “Only female people menstruate. Only female people go through menopause.”

100% accurate.
The report in the Tab seems quite neutral, with 'transphobia' in quotes in the title. I don't think the majority of students are necessarily behind wokeness.

An Exeter lecturer has been accused of transphobia after a series of tweets sent from a private account were uncovered
Can't help feeling LBGT societies have been infiltrated by the Monster Raving Loony Party, on reflection they are more rational.

Datun · 29/02/2020 10:09

I right to think students also rate their lecturers ?

There were a flurry of threads on here a year or so back about the whole issue of rating universities.

It was around the time the head of one student union banned a load of newspapers from the student bar area because she disagreed with the politics. Literally prevented students from reading them.

The exit questions students are asked appear to relate less to the standard of education and more to the overall 'experience'. Including the price of beer in the student bar apparently.

The answers directly translate to awards to the unis, which affect funding.

The more politically motivated students who will be influencing things like no platforming will also, I imagine, be the ones highly invested in their exit questions/student survey (sorry I can't recall the exact terms).

If the government want to promote free speech and critical thinking at universities, they need to reduce the students' power.

Mockersisrightasusual · 29/02/2020 10:01

Harrop and Webberley will be the only doctors left!

And Sarah Woolastone.

This is Bloody Blair and his 50% target. Working-class kids have not benefitted. The idiot chldren of the sharp-elbowed pushy middle-classes have colonised the universities and brought their fluffy-headed crap with them.

FannyCann · 29/02/2020 09:57

Evan is a Datsun if ever anyone was. 🚙😂🚗😂

FannyCann · 29/02/2020 09:54

At risk of further derailing but I follow Eva Poen on twitter. I think she has currently locked her account - I don't know when she did or if it is in response to this. But just noticed an excellent thread, the replies to Evan's "A doctor or nurse ticked a box. That's when you became a woman." are gold.

It's Saturday morning, we deserve some laughs.

But I hope Eva is OK. It's time universities stood up for their staff.

Lol 🚗 🚘 🚙

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/02/2020 09:33

As Datun mentions, universities have turned educational degrees into a product of consumerism. There is a tendency for many people to worship 'the market' and that this magical market can miraculously solve all world problems.

In terms of educational establishments, what it actually does is make people think that because they are paying vast sums of money to purchase their degrees, they can expect universities to cater to their whims since they are now effectively customers.
Universities are no longer a place for rigourous and challenging critical thinking; it's a place to have an 'inclusive and safe experience'. Students expect lecturers to tell them what they want to hear, else they will give them poor ratings and reviews. They expect university admin to do as they say.... And universities absolutely will because they are reliant upon student fees and brand image to stay 'competitive' in this glorious market.

RandomMess · 29/02/2020 09:22

@FannyCann I think you have created a new slur word, you Datsun!

SleepDeprivedElf · 29/02/2020 09:21

That is properly chilling

JellySlice · 29/02/2020 09:20

She didn't even say 'women'. She said 'only females menstruate'. Transmen are female. She was trans-inclusive.

Confused
FannyCann · 29/02/2020 09:16

LOL I'd forgotten about Datsun cars. Apologies for the insult Datun and sorry for the derail. Grin

FannyCann · 29/02/2020 09:13

Sorry. Datun autocorrect...goes off to google datsun...

FannyCann · 29/02/2020 09:12

Datsun am I right to think students also rate their lecturers ? Which is obviously a real problem for lecturers who want to discuss any inconvenient truths.

BovaryX · 29/02/2020 09:11

This is such absolute rubbish. Try living in a war zone

Precisely. As RoyalCorgialso points out, the narcissistic, self involvement is so tedious. As is the total absence of proportionality.

Rockluvvindad · 29/02/2020 09:11

I know this struggle sometimes seems like it is men against women, but please believe me, this is not all men by a large margin. Women have far more support than they realise from men at large in this, but speaking personally, as a "gammon", I feel that my voice is not heard or my view important. I have no protected characteristics to use as woke armour should the eye of sauron turn on me, but I won't stop doing what I can for my daughters' futures even if that is only to keep them questioning the narrative... They are 19 and 16... The eldest at uni but still seems to question this so I am looking forward to a good conversation with her about the labour leadership contest when she comes out to visit me in a couple of weeks. The youngest, whilst as wonderfully inclusive and "nice" as many young people are these days is very GC even without me trying to keep her informed of stuff, so the message is getting through. The wheels will come off of this crazed ideology soon and hopefully before too many other children are mutilated for life...

I regularly find myself lost for words....

Of course only females menstruate. Why is that a radical thing to say? But it makes me a transphobe.

I am such a horrid transphobe that I have a trans person staying in my house as I type this...

Kit19 · 29/02/2020 08:58

I think that’s so right Datun

Customer is queen and this is where we are

SnuggyBuggy · 29/02/2020 08:51

This is why people are struggling to take transphobia seriously. Bit of an own goal
