Weinstein guilty

I’ve posted this before but I really do think it bears repeating:

Rape is Rape.

And there should be a single, flat (long) sentence for it.

But rapists should also always be charged with the other crimes they commit during the course of the rape - coercion, detaining or restraining someone against their will, threatening behaviour with a knife, assault by hitting or slapping or punching, etc.

Every one of those should be a separate charge brought against the rapist with a separate sentence.

There are so many violent crimes that go along with rape but rape is the only one that the perpetrator is charged (and then only if you are ‘lucky’).

Waiting for sentencing before I celebrate. Third degree rape...wtf.

Bloody zimmerframe. Send a pack of dogs after him. I bet he'd shift like a rat up a drainpipe.

Really god news that he's been convicted.

Shows predatory men it can and will catch up with you - no matter how long you get away with it. Even the most powerful man, who has got away with it for years and years, can fall.

Of course it would have been brilliant if he’d been convicted of all the charges but given the world we live in, I think that would have been almost too good to be true. Things haven’t moved on that much.

But they have moved on to a degree. I am punching the air at the thought of that monstrous predator finally being behind bars, and hopefully for a good few years at least.

Plus the guilty verdicts today send out a signal ahead of the LA trial. A clear signal, IMO.

Weinstein a convicted rapist. A taste of long overdue justice for women. YES!!!

I was also surprised at the guilty verdict though I'm not convinced it went far enough. He was definitely predatory.

I'll reserve further judgement until I see how lenient the sentencing is.

I was fucking astounded he was found guilty of anything. I mean, Swearing Out Loud astounded.

May the civil suits now follow him along with the criminal cases.

I had the same procedure he had and 2 days after the op they me up and walking around unaided. So he can shove his walking frame. Total cynical move and I amnnot surprised he thought it would all blow over. He has money and that usually sorts most shit out. And the times we live in are so strange. Someone like Trump, with no end of evidence against him. In his own words, evidence of others, credible solid gold witness and he gets off time and again...why shouldn't he? I hope he has quite a it of time to mull over what went wrong.

Word is he genuinely thought he was getting off and going back to his old life. Seems it came as quite a painful shock.

Self-evidently, there is, for the same reason that the USA has degrees of murder.

I think there are a few good reasons to have these, only one being that the recognise different types of culpability. That may not matter from the victims perspective but it can matter from societies perspective.

More importantly though, it means you may be able to convict of a lesser charge where you can't find the evidence for the more serious one, or in cases where the jury would be hesitant to convict on a more serious charge because it seem disproportionate.

I am somewhat surprised though, mainly because of the money angle.

So his whole "look at me with my walker, I couldn't hurt a fly" ploy didn't work? Good.

Yeah, reminds me of Jon Worboys, thought to have raped 100ish women but convicted of only a few. Within a few years, they were deciding he's safe and should be released.
Still, better than nothing, I suppose.

I think there are a further two trials. I was amazed when I saw the guilty verdict. He knows an awful lot about powerful people so may do an Epstein in his cell.

Hes been placed in custody and sentenced on 11th March. When will the heart attack/stroke/health crisis happen I wonder? The Zimmer frame hasnt worked so hell have to up his game a bit if he wants a soft sentence. And it will be state prison yea? Or is this a federal offence?
I reckon there will be horse trading going on as we speak.

I hope he gets a custodial sentence, here in Ireland he'd probably get a hero's welcome and a presidential award.

Latest report is that he could still be facing 25 years or life in prison. And Sciorra's case was statute barred, sadly, although still used as evidence for the predatory charge (on which he was acquitted).

Does anyone know whether rape in the 3rd degree normally carries a custodial sentence?

If he doesn’t serve time... I can’t begin to think how his victims will feel.

Glad he's been found guilty of something, but some of the subtler nuances of the charges and verdicts make very unedifying reading to me. There cannot be a 'degree' of rape, nor can there be any question of intent or otherwise (unless the result is an acquittal). Harper Lee understood that when she wrote 'no jury in this part of the world is going to say "we think you're guilty, but not very", on a charge like that'.

The article makes no mention of Annabella Sciorra. My heart went out to her during that harrowing testimony and I'll be genuinely upset for her if he's been acquitted of that offence.

Can you imagine what a gift it would be if Harvey Weinstein went on to identify as a woman??

Possiblenolea deal? Cop for the lesser charges and a reduced sentence?
