Well, not branded as story hour, but the drag queen is reading a story to primary school children... Brought in by an MP (Mhairi Black)

“Thank you to Flow and @MhairiBlack for sharing their experiences with us today. It was really important to hear about Section 28 and the negative effect it had. Thankfully now we teach #LGBTEducation proudly at @Glencoats_PS #LGBTQProud @LGBTYS @LGBTHistoryScot”

It seems money and power will induce people to,betray the ones they are meant to protect

Including retweeting this gem.

Mhairi Black MP

@MhairiBlack

Yet so many people in my mentions want acknowledgment of LGBT people shut down because you still think there’a something inappropriate in our existence. You’re willing to see another generation of LGBT people growing up believing that who they are should be hidden away

Nobody, absolutely nobody said that. She's making things up.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 22:55

Well they get a big chunk of National Lottery money don’t they? It seems that charities attract rum sorts.

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2020 22:53

Children1st and aberlour children s charity

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 22:49

Omg how did my country get to this

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2020 22:43

Twitter

Clear to everyone but @MhairiBlack, @MhairiHunter, @HannahB4LiviMP, @AngelaCrawley30 and the rest?
Also worrying to see Scottish children's charity heads @SallyAnnKelly1 and @margl43 retweeting Black's posts.
Do they not know a safeguarding risk when they see it, @JohnSwinney?

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 21:53

So the man who tweeted last night - was that like one of my after dinner late night tweets (hic)?

Cross post transdimensional!

Essentially the same quote as in the herald but this is from the TES, thankfully.

*This afternoon, Scottish education secretary and deputy first minister John Swinney said that Flowjob “quite clearly” should not have been invited to address pupils at the school and that "lessons have got to be learnt", but he did not directly criticise SNP colleague Ms Black.

He said: “I think the whole question of enabling young people to understand LGBT issues is an important element of equipping young people to understand the modern world, and that’s an implicit part of the health and wellbeing element of the curriculum.

“But quite clearly this was an invitation that should not have been issued, given the background material that had been on the social media account of the individual concerned.

“I understand that Renfrewshire Council has apologised for that, and I think that’s the correct thing for them to have done.”
Asked what he thought of Ms Black accusing online critics of homophobia, he said: “I think what’s important is I think parents have raised quite understandable concerns about this matter, which is why it was correct for Renfrewshire Council to express an apology about the fact that this invitation has been issued.

“The invitation was issued in good faith, because the school was trying to do something which I think is important, and that is to respond to pupil aspirations to understand more about LGBT issues, and I think that is an important hallmark of our society – that young people want to understand that.

“But, crucially, we have to be sensitive about the invitations that are issued to enable that to be done, and in this case that’s not been done, and Renfrewshire Council are therefore quite correct to have apologised for this.”

Mr Swinney said his officials had spoken to the council.*

Not sure if this has been posted, but Scottish education secretary John Swinney has repudiated the invitation issued to Flow, albeit implying that it would be OK to invite a drag queen provided they didn't have such a dodgy social media account.

Swinney dodged questions about Mhairi Black, but said parents' concerns were legitimate.

What was most amusing was that apparently a newly appointed SNP spin doctor, who tweeted in defence of the invitation last night, had to perform a rapid U-turn. ( www.heraldscotland.com/news/18260220.education-secretary-condemns-school-visit-drag-queen-called-flowjob/ )

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 20:44

@Dances - that is beyond grim. Even made paedo jokes as part of his 'act' - playing wide in the open, isn't that the tactic these days?

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 20:42

@DidoLamenting at least it wasn't Waynes! My mum uses to call kids 'awww the wee ones'.

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/02/2020 20:19

Great spectator article.

What essentially pisses me off is that schools can't fund visiting artists let alone things like this.

What about a gay author reading a story or an illustrator visiting?

It's not creative or enriching. People don't really know what those words actually mean in practice in schools.

DidoLamenting · 25/02/2020 20:16

If you are going to be ostentatiously Scottish do try to get the words right.

It's "weans" - not "wains"

Effzeh · 25/02/2020 19:49

It is not just that posting photos is bad form: it can also place a child in danger. Children who have been rehomed in secret - either because their mother has fled her abuser or because they have been taken into care - can be put at very real risk if their location is revealed.

Yes, I am aware.

But even in the absence of overt safeguarding issues, it's generally considered not okay to post photos of other people's children on social media, even if you know them well enough to know there aren't any specific problems. It's just become a thing that you don't do. Even within extended families people get huffy about use of their children's images without permission.

Unless you're a glittery porny drag performer, clearly. Hmm

McPeaked · 25/02/2020 19:38

Finally the photo of the class is off the Instagram account.

Effzeh · 25/02/2020 19:34

I saw a tweet from someone saying they were a parent here and event they knew they couldn't take class shots and post them.

Lots of primary schools tell parents not to take pictures of children at nativity plays etc, and posting photos that include other people's children on social media without their express permission would definitely be regarded as bad form.

But hey, it's only boring old safeguarding, who cares about that when you can have glitter and rainbows and the moral high ground?

VickyEadieofThigh · 25/02/2020 19:33

That Spectator article is spot on. I note that Mhairi Black is now on Twitter deflecting from her awful actions by making herself into a victim.

Dances · 25/02/2020 19:32

So if lesbian went into the school, who had an account 'cunninlinguscunt' and introduced herself as 'Cunning', with pics of plastic vaginas being licked, would that be ok for LGBT month....

I don't bloody think so.

Languishingfemale · 25/02/2020 19:25

There's a fantastic article in the Spectator by Joanna Williams that summarises Mhairi Black's (and the Head's) disregard for the welfare of children:

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2020/02/mhairi-blacks-drag-queen-stunt-has-backfired-spectacularly/

The notion that some topics are not suitable to discuss in front of children or that (whisper it) the role of adults is to protect children from ideas and issues they are too young to need to know about is derided as hopelessly out dated

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 19:06

@Effzeh I saw a tweet from someone saying they were a parent here and event they knew they couldn't take class shots and post them.

I noticed that the Gallus Marie didn't pick up on that one. Her pals can Do No Wrong can then?

Gah, unsuitable obviously.
