Bloody hell if that's true, that's fantastic!

PUUUULLLL.

The consequences of supporting the lie are coming home to roost. The distancing of those who see this from any part of the lie is beginning.

Barracker
I agree. This radical agenda has zero public support, yet it has advanced at speed over the last twenty years. I think the unraveling is beginning. And if Labour wants to die on the hill of trans activism? Rebecca LB, Butler et al can lead the charge into political oblivion.....

Barracker · 22/02/2020 11:28

I don't really get the link to children in the Times article though? I understand the dangers of puberty blockers etc but don't really understand what that has to do with self ID and the GRA.

It doesn't. This is tactical. The govt are using the most palatable excuse they can, for halting the progression of transactivism.

The vehicle of transactivism has been like a runaway car gaining speed for years. It looks to me like the govt have chosen to tap the brakes a bit.

Self-ID, child transitioning, the GRA, male offenders in women's prisons, people losing jobs for speaking facts, court cases of 'hate crimes' for speaking of biology.

They're all parts of a greater whole, which is a state sponsored lie that male and female are an identity, a state of mind, a 'right to choose'. Something we should encourage and affirm. The govt, I think, are becoming savvy to the realisation that affirming any part of it causes an associated increase in harm within another part.

The consequences of supporting the lie are coming home to roost. The distancing of those who see this from any part of the lie is beginning.

The justification of 'but the children' is given in this story today because it's the most compelling, even though children are not directly affected by proposed GRA changes. But I think what is happening is a slowdown on the velocity of the 'celebrate sex change' insanity.

ThePurported · 22/02/2020 11:25

If self ID is shelved, then how can a male person live their life 'as a woman' for 2 years in order to gain a GRC?

By providing documents such as gas bills showing that he has been using a female name for two years. That's the current requirement for 'living in acquired gender'.

Aesopfable · 22/02/2020 11:24

How does one live like a woman? Let's start with a legal explanation of that.

Didn't the Scottish law on gender equality on public boards do that? If I remember correctly living as a women meant having a stereotypically feminine name on a gas bill.

KatySun · 22/02/2020 11:22

This will open up some interesting legal questions if Scotland goes ahead and England does not - people will just come north of the border (does the Scottish gender recognition bill have a domicile requirement attached?), and gain their GRC in Scotland from age 16 (will that be valid in England and elsewhere?)

Fairenuff · 22/02/2020 11:09

If self ID is shelved, then how can a male person live their life 'as a woman' for 2 years in order to gain a GRC? None of it makes sense. The whole GRA needs to be re-examined. How can they make an Act in law without being able to even define the words that the Act relates to.

Let's get rid of it all and start again. What is a woman? How does one live like a woman? Let's start with a legal explanation of that.

Noodlenosefraggle · 22/02/2020 11:06

There is a link to a Times article on another thread. Clinics have been giving puberty blockers to children as young as 11 so they 'dont have to undergo surgery' as an adult. So by the time they have got to 18, they have already been pumped full of hormones and effectively sterilised. The GRA is just a part of this.

scotsheather · 22/02/2020 11:00

While it's good news if it's true I dont see how it directly affects children as you had to be 18 to apply under the gra. Were they talking of lowering that?

I’m only going to say this once - thank Christ labour isn’t in charge of this ship...

If self Id is shelved it is hard to argue the 'just getting ahead' of a law that is coming.
It will be what it always has been and that is illegal.

teawamutu · 22/02/2020 10:50

The 'backlash/concession' theory sounds right - what I'm hoping is that the last few weeks have taken away a lot of the political capital from pandering to TRAs.

The general public response seems to be very much on the side of reason, so arguably government gets more support from standing firm and letting Labour look mad?

Languishingfemale · 22/02/2020 10:26

An insightful warning Barracker.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 10:26

Also watch out for advert wording and themes.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 22/02/2020 10:25

Brace for impact
But even if it goes quiet for a while, it won't mean they've gone away.

Watch how different TRA's will be coming to the front in the media.

The popular, 'attractive' ones will be telling us how HRT makes them so more attractive.

The benign panellist on a gameshow playing the gentle feminine game.

The Labour leadership hustings showing us how woke and progressive they are.

Any change of tactic is deliberate.

As Barracker said Eyes open
Stay awake people.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 10:25

Law on our side but the police on theirs? Didn’t one person brag of her connections with their local police and was funnily never questioned about taking child/teen abroad for a ‘sex change op’ that is illegal here (and now there) at that age.

Violetparis · 22/02/2020 10:24

I wonder if Labour will oppose this and open themselves up to more scutiny and ridicule. If this is true there is going to be huge pressure on Labour from the trans lobby.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 22/02/2020 10:24

It's no good them abandoning GRC changes if the police, public sector, charitable sector and many private institutions aren't actually following the law to begin with, but some ludicrously inappropriate 'guidlines' that effectively enforce GRC changes in a de facto sense anyway.

This.

The law is still on our side - sex exemptions exist. We need to hold the Tories to account to uphold them.

They are going to be in power for the foreseeable future.

All of us need to push this with Tory MPs

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 10:23

There will be a hole lot of Pushback from the lobby groups. I Await to see their next move.

Beamur · 22/02/2020 10:22

If reform of the GRA is shelved, does that effectively mean self ID is dead in the water?

Mockersisrightasusual · 22/02/2020 10:13

Would that be....

"It's Shite Being Scottish!"

...or was that John Hodge who wrote the screenplay.

Hodge also stole this line from Gregory's Girl (1980)

Times are changing. People are changing. Soon there'll be no men and no women, just wankers.

NearlyGranny · 22/02/2020 10:03

This news, as the old joke says, is like a stream of bat piss: a shaft of gold when all around is darkness!

Barracker · 22/02/2020 09:58

Brace for Impact, everyone.

You know how this goes. A gain is made. An enormous backlash follows within days. A possibly dreadful concession is offered to TRAs, by the government, one which they probably have pre-prepared in their pocket right now. The opposition respond with bigger, more stupid promises.

And the TRA machine diverts onto the next tactic., which will be funded and planned better.

Get out on social media, make some positive noise about this if you can. Give fence sitters the confidence to say they agree this is a good move. This is the most dangerous time to down tools and be complacent. There will be a major TRA regrouping exercise taking place right now that began before this announcement, knowing it was coming.

Eyes open, brace for impact. We'll see what's about to happen now.
