I didn’t catch the start to know exactly who you are, but I know you must be on here somewhere. You rock, sister. Thankyou for speaking up. And it sounds like Shelagh Fogarty gets it.

Short clip of Lucy on Talk Radio yesterday

Oh, thanks. Wow, what a woman!
IKR? I read that bio and proper swooned like a heart-eyes smiley.

Oh, thanks. Wow, what a woman!

I'd find it hugely reassuring to have her in my corner.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2020 18:08

Lucy is a barrister? I had no idea, although I knew she had left the fire service.

NotAtMyAge · 24/02/2020 17:31

Lucy Masoud is now a barrister and it really shows in her ability to express herself clearly, cogently and without using jargon. So impressive, as was her recent interview with spiked.

Xanthangum · 24/02/2020 16:44

Thanks @Novina and @Floisme, yes it looks like that's the one.

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 16:33

Lucy was fantastic on the JHB show (just after 9.35am if anyone wants to listen back) and Julia is very supportive of women in this fight.

Cwenthryth · 24/02/2020 15:09

Excellent. I’m there (annual leave request pending)

Lucy is a superb speaker. Direct, to the point, no waffle.

Floisme · 24/02/2020 12:58

I've not heard the Talk Radio slot but Lucy's been tweeting about this event:

Faircop have also retweeted.

I so want to hear Lucy Masoud's voice more. We've got brilliant organisers, writers, thinkers, public speakers, but broadcasting - particularly live, where you have to think on your feet - is a really important skill too.

Xanthangum · 24/02/2020 12:37

Lucy Masoud was on Talk Radio this morning (the J*lia HB show, apologies)

Link:
talkradio.co.uk/opinion/opinion-labour-leadership-transgender-pledge-absolute-nonsense-20022433017

"So what myself and an organisation called Labour Women’s Declaration have done in response to this ridiculous 12-point pledge is we are setting up a meeting that is a robust response to that pledge."

Anyone know any more about this meeting?

ScapaFlo · 22/02/2020 11:59

That bloke is difficult to listen to, his diction is terrible. Lucy by contrast was crystal clear. I missed half of what he said because he swallowed so many words. If you're going to speak on behalf of people, I should think it might be wise to make sure you can actually be heard.

LouHotel · 22/02/2020 11:38

Wow the ending of that clip from shelagh. ''yeah but transwomen are separate to women''

You do you shelagh!!!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2020 11:14

Haha - Shelagh's face is very expressive at times!

Cwenthryth · 22/02/2020 09:05

LBC posted the clip on their Twitter feed - the comments are overwhelmingly in support of Lucy & Shelagh

Lucy let him have it with both barrels, didn't she?

I love that she was so clear and so passionate. No messing around being polite or euphemistic. Just said what needed to be said in a way that was unequivocal and forthright.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 21/02/2020 14:29

I think the wheels are coming off the trans bandwagon

The sooner they do, the better

BigChocFrenzy · 21/02/2020 14:20

Lucy and WPUK speak for us 👏🏼 🤛🏼
Labour will be out of power forever, unless they stop prioritising TRAs over women

"Science is not transphobic."
As a STEM PhD, thanks especially for that

womaninblue · 21/02/2020 12:51

Yes, absolutely. Sorry Kiri Tunks, all kudos to you for your achievements but talking about institutional patriarchal oppression isn't actually communicating. Lucy communicates in a way people can relate to and understand.

Cuntysnark · 21/02/2020 12:50

I’ve done my usual. Sent Shelagh a thank you card. If I can source an address for Lucy she’ll get one too.

mindtheclegs · 21/02/2020 12:47

Absolutely brilliant. Thanks Lucy and thanks Shelagh for pointing out that women are marginalised, women need their spaces protected, by law. This has made my day. A better end to the week!

Floisme · 21/02/2020 12:35

I'd love to hear Lucy Masoud's voice more in this debate. She'd have been great on the Moral Maze, for example, because she's so clear and unapologetic.

IfNot · 21/02/2020 12:23

Omg Lucy Masoud was a queen!
That Matt dude (I'm assuming he was a male who identified as a male, so hard to tell on the radio) got himself OWNED.
And more to the point he just blustered and waffled and nowt he said made sense!
"Oh, we, um, of course cis women should be able to have spaces but not by denying tw are women.."
So, no single sex spaces then? So nice to have that decided for us BY A MAN (again I'm assuming please don't delete me)
And the nerve of him referencing support services, like refuges, and implying that women are trying to prevent TW from accessing help.
I've said it before but it bears repeating,
Matt if you're reading:
Women's refuges and rape crisis didn't just fall from the sky. The government in the 70s didn't just decide to hand over a wad of cash to keep these places going.
They were created from the ground up BY WOMEN FOR WOMEN
If TW want such services I'm sure women will help them set them up (we're good like that) but no type of male however they identify should access the ones we have.
Especially as, if self Id, is allowed, ANY abusive man could legally follow his victim into the refuge, so they are no longer a safe place. That is the logical outcome, and it's so obvious when you hear how clear Lucy Masoud is and how waffly the guy is, that the self id position makes no sense.

Binterested · 20/02/2020 23:49

Deletions seem to have been quiet the last few days. Maybe even our elders and betters who like to monitor us have been stunned into silence by the utter shitshow of the Labour ladies these last few days.
