He has responded to my email asking him to ensure the definition of women is born female at birth.

His question: How in a women's communal toilet can you reasonably ascertain whether another person is a woman or not?

Please give me your best answers now before I reply.

Especially safe guarding points!!

Will mention the way men walk, talk, look ... that entirely possible i have not spotted a post op trans before. but i would spot a bearded man or someone who made me as a woman feel unsafe. And the new self -ID would mean I would have to ignore my instincts and happily allow any man who says he is a woman to access my communal changing area / that of my 9 year old daughter ..

Baroness Barker is Lib Dem!

pombear · 24/02/2020 20:30

Baroness Barker - what purpose does he think is served by having this debate over and over again. There have been various points which are a proxy debate for the GRA, many of the points made I could take issue with, but I don't have time, but Lord Lucas, criticisms of Stonewall and Fawcett Society they have had to face intemperate remarks.

Every time we have this debate, doesn't move debate forward. Not doing women any great favour by increasing their fears without an evidence base to do with (??? what!!)

No evidence to back up his assertion. What research has been done on crimes in unisex toilets. What breakdown on types of result?

Are people more likely tor report crimes in unisex toilets because they dislike them? Or different venues?

It seems to me that we need to do two things - look to America where there's bathroom bills (TARGET!) and where people take it into their own hands people's physical look get challenged (HANG ON, YOU GOT RESEARCH ABOUT THAT B BARKER?)

We're propsing to take away a right they already have. Transwomen use women's toilets all the time.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:30

Another Lib Dem (Baroness Barker) stating that it is not progressive to go back over these debates and that Stonewall and transgender people are in need of moving forward.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 24/02/2020 20:28

I'm still on Baroness Brinton reciting that 'poem'. She's also receited fake suicide stats, poor old trans people's feelings (but sod women's feelings) and TW do not commit crime at the same rate of men (they do!).

Tanni disclosing her need to self-catheterise, particularly when on her period, and what a vulnerable position it puts her in.

rogdmum · 24/02/2020 20:26

I’m a big fan of Baroness Nicholson. I emailed her not long ago (about “ROGD”) and she replied straight away. Smile

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:24

Now Baroness Grey-Thompson is also calling for keeping safe same sex toilets. And is asking for more gender neutral while keeping the women's too.

pombear · 24/02/2020 20:24

So on point Tanni Smile

pombear · 24/02/2020 20:22

Tanni!! (Sorry, not respectful of her title, but I worked with her a long time ago briefly. She's awesome)

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:22

Yes!! Baroness Nicholson says that the NHS needs to review their guidelines back into line with the intention of the ACT.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:21

She points out that under the equality act, it was not intended to be for self identification. And that there needs to be at least cross-sex hormones taken.

pombear · 24/02/2020 20:20

Another one watching here! Thanks Lord Lucas (and thanks refuse for engaging with him) Learnt something from Baroness Greengross about her APPG work - what a hidden but important subject (and the 'bins for boy's' work - of course, men have incontinence issues too, but no sanitary provision).

Here goes Baroness Nicholson! She knows her stuff, thanks in part to lots of women meeting with her.

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:17

This is SUCH a good debate. We need more of this.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:17

Baroness Nicholson is discussing the confusion about the definition of woman!

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:14

Go Lord Blencathra!!

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:14

Baroness Greengross is mentioning about lack of public toilets in total in the UK as well! 67% reduction in public toilets in the UK in the last decade. 1:5 people (both sexes) don't feel they can go out as often as they like due to lack of public toilets.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:11

Such a pity that there is no one there. But, we are listening!!

MrsSnippyPants · 24/02/2020 20:10

Baroness Brinton hitting every spot on the whataboutery bingo, including that favourite; female paedophiles.

What
The
Fuck

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:10

Lord Blencathra is talking about the rapists being in female jails. Another one on point.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:08

Sal Brinton thinks that this matter is overstated.

Winesalot · 24/02/2020 20:06

Sal Brinton thought that the poet last week was amazing.

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 20:01

Haven't been writing things down - but I like that he corrected himself from gender to sex

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 24/02/2020 20:01

unfortunately the further up the chain you get the less people actually care.
Case in point, the turn out.

SoldiersinPetticoats · 24/02/2020 19:58

Lord Lucas, the voice of nuance. Shame there's no-one there to listen.

mindtheclegs · 24/02/2020 19:54

Wow - "a woman doesn't want to wash her bloody underwear in front of men"
