Can anyone with crowdfunder details PM me please.

Amalfimamma · 14/02/2020 15:00

The just should have had a quick twttier search for "girldick" then

MrsSnippyPants · 14/02/2020 14:46

According to Joani, Kate was also reprimanded by the judge for using 'MandyMcGirlDick' as a Twitter name.

So, another Spartacus moment?......

Amalfimamma · 14/02/2020 14:39

Let's not forget. Kate is also being privately sued by hayden too

Imnobody4 · 14/02/2020 14:23

My head's spinning a bit. Kate's trial wasnt anything to do with hate crime legislation was it? Unlike Harry's and the recent Are you a man or woman? one. So the ruling opens the floodgates for women to invoke this harassment legislation. It's nothing to do with Equalities Act and protected categories.
How could the CPS refuse to prosecute? Is women's right not to be harassed not in the public interest.
I think Kate has a really good case.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/02/2020 13:27

It's one battle lost. The war is far from over!

teawamutu · 14/02/2020 13:20

Bring on the crowdfunder, Kate!

inwood · 14/02/2020 13:06

Farce.

DandelionsAreNotLions · 14/02/2020 12:54

The police fucked up the evidence , they and the CPS overreached hugely but the main problem is the law itself.

If you have a law intended to criminalize sending thousands of letters and menacing emails a week but written so loosely and with such a low bar that everyone with Internet access breaks it almost daily, are left in position where is ideological decision who to prosecute or not.

Previous colleague regularly said she needed "get a waggle on" (not wriggle) in emails and wrote that she had "visualised " instead of "seen" into formal client notes. That caused me endless annoyance and anxiety for years.

That section on malicious communications needs scrapping, have been so many cases where used wrongly in my opinion.

WeetabixBananaHipsterFFS · 14/02/2020 12:35

OMFG Shock

EsmeShelby · 14/02/2020 12:35

Hideous. Just hideous. Is Kate appealing? Is there a crowd funder?

It sets a precedent.

Presumably every woman who has been harassed, subject to rape threats, vile language etc on Twitter can now expect her harasser to be found guilty in court.

Wouldn't it be good if they all compiled the legal evidence and made a complaint in the same week?

Anyone here?

(I keep a very low profile on Twitter because of my job)

ChattyLion · 14/02/2020 12:29

Oh no.

GenderCriticalFeminist · 14/02/2020 12:28

I was in court this morning. One of the many gobsmacking things the judge said was that it didn't matter that Kate's tweets weren't directed at Hayden - she said the internet was open and therefore anything posted could be seen by anyone. (That wasn't the exact wording, but the gist.)

The verdict was just unbelievable, really. Absolutely no recognition of Hayden's lengthy criminal record or history of litigation to silence people. Telling Kate she should be "kind". Just unbelievable.

The only consolation is that, with all the attention trans issues and freedom of speech issues are getting this week, there will probably be a lot of comment at the weekend about this and Harry's case.

LarryTheLurker · 14/02/2020 12:27

Appeal from a magistrates court conviction is to a Crown Court, not a Judicial Review. Magistrates courts are not courts of record so the judgements are not recorded, only the decision and sentence.
As a man I find this whole business absolutely appalling.

Amalfimamma · 14/02/2020 12:23

dorisdog

Prick news. The same media outlet which defends incest, pedophilia and defends tras on a daily basis.

Fantastic source.

dorisdog · 14/02/2020 12:21

This from Pinknews, paints a very different picture.

'Scottow used two Twitter accounts to “harass, defame, and publish derogatory and defamatory tweets”, according to the paper.
... the police arrest, in fact, stemmed from Scottow allegedly sharing “confidential details of my personal medical and financial information” on social media.'

EverardDigby · 14/02/2020 12:19

Is there a copy of the judgement anywhere does anyone know?

SW16 · 14/02/2020 12:18

Meanwhile....

I am overwhelmingly glad of this ruling, but it is hard not to think 'the woman cops it'.

SW16 · 14/02/2020 12:15

This is sickening in its wrongness.

Someone needs to write a clear letter to the major papers about this, explaining in clear terms what happened. And defending Free Speech.
With a strong list of signatures.

happydappy2 · 14/02/2020 12:09

I hope Kate’s got the strength to appeal-this is so unjust.

Amalfimamma · 14/02/2020 12:09

I made a passing joke here in August about looking for a solicitor who was allowed to practice and got a defamation note from admin saying I'd been reported by hayden under the defamation act and for my tweet to stand I would need to give my full name and address, which I did.

This is the tactic used by a certain "lawyer" and it's all out in the open for all to see.

Let's hope the next judge allows the full extent of their criminal record to be read out in open court.

DeployTheTut · 14/02/2020 11:54

Thanks for the update, @Amalfimamma

"Kate was banned from Twitter
Made a second account as we all do
She didn't contact claimant but claimant found her via photos of her dog, as admitted in court
Second account banned, 3rd account made and the same thing happened

The police recorded NONE of the claimants tweets so each and ever one of Kate's tweets have no context nor meaning"

It's worth remembering the tactic that Hayden used. (How much time does e have?!!) The judgement shows (at least until we win the appeal) that we must be aware that people that are utterly unhinged and spending hours* cross-referencing our social media. But it's not harassment.

I am putting money aside for Kate’s appeal

I hope she can win the appeal then make a claim for damages - reputation/career
