I have no words. Reports from Joani Walsh and Maya Forstater at the Trial in St Albans

A losing appeal is worth it, if only to get Flyingtrainers’ photo back in the papers.

NoSharon · 14/02/2020 19:42

Proper result imo.

FemaleAndLearning · 14/02/2020 19:40

I didn't recognise Hayden. Hayden's picture on Twitter and pink news is nothing like the one in daily Mail!
Sad to hear the judgement let's hope she wins on appeal.

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 14/02/2020 19:23

Why does the Daily Mail consistently refer to the claimant as “Ms Hayden”, but the defendant as “Scottow” throughout the article

That is one of the ways the media influences first impressions of people who skim the news or do not know the parties involved.
They do not come right out and say this person has our respect and that one does not. That bias would be obvious and objected to. They simply use an honorific to indicate their respect for one person and leave it off to indicate lack of respect for the other.
Once you start noticing this style of manipulation you will see it everywhere.

toomuchtooold · 14/02/2020 18:36

I'd also be happy to contribute to the crowdfunded if there's one going.

It's like the emperor's new clothes, isn't it?

SW16 · 14/02/2020 18:22

Mummmyzzzz:

Here is one explanation

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/02/2020 17:37

girldick, ladydick, all those names for penises originated with people born male.

Female people don't name penises. That's a male thing.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/02/2020 17:30

The person Kate was found guilty of upsetting with her hurty-words appeared in court for 21 offences and was once locked up for 6 months. Think on that.

CallofDoodee · 14/02/2020 17:22

According to Joani, Kate was also reprimanded by the judge for using 'MandyMcGirlDick' as a Twitter name.

And yet, if you search girldick or #girldick on twitter..... Actually, don't, you will need the brain bleach.

Be kind? Be fucking kind?

If there is a crowd funder for Kate I will happily donate.

Mummyzzz044 · 14/02/2020 17:03

I'm sorry if this is insulting, little DD here so not a lot of time to read a lot. What is happening? Seems a lot of upset? Sorry it this is offensive

ThinEndoftheWedge · 14/02/2020 16:57

Have the police explained if why they are not pursuing Caroline’s complaint.

Looked very dodge to me. Agreed - far more reprehensible than what happened today.

Amalfimamma · 14/02/2020 16:55

I think I can speak for Kate when I say THANK YOU
Your support has been amazing.

If 16 tweets over 7 months, 9 in conversation with the claimant, and one expressing an opinion that the poster was racist is enough to turn your world upside down, then we're living in sad times.

I think Kate will be taking some time out with her beautiful children to re energise, and will be back in a few days as she needs it to be honest!

Fuck kind!

GeordieTerf · 14/02/2020 16:33

As bad as this is for Kate, surely it's good news for Farrow's case? It surely means that she can't lose?

Kilbranan · 14/02/2020 16:30

I will also donate to any crowdfunded appeal. This judge has clearly never looked a the amount of abuse women get on Twitter on a daily basis!! And I agree the difference in the way this case has been approached versus the lack of any action in favour of Caroline Farrow is very telling
Women know your place Angry

GirlsInGreen · 14/02/2020 16:15

I'm just gutted for Kate - onwards to appeal

Mner2000 · 14/02/2020 16:10

Be kind - what pile of shite advice is that?!

Happy to crowd fund the appeal..

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2020 15:52

Yeah Caroline has had shocking abuse

But hey just another woman.

scotsheather · 14/02/2020 15:48

As with Farrow and the Harry case the only obvious difference is who is male or female. Nuff said.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 14/02/2020 15:41

Presumably every woman who has been harassed, subject to rape threats, vile language etc on Twitter can now expect her harasser to be found guilty in court.Wouldn't it be good if they all compiled the legal evidence and made a complaint in the same week?

IIRC Caroline Farrow has had far, far worse harassment than even in the worst interpretation of facts in this case and yet CPS haven't prosecuted. She's even had things ordered to her house and comments made on social media which is much more of a direct physical threat to her and her family. Yet no action from police as far as I know. Wonder why.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 14/02/2020 15:23

Why does the Daily Mail consistently refer to the claimant as “Ms Hayden”, but the defendant as “Scottow” throughout the article

I think they (newspapers) always refer to defendants with surname only when reporting?

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/02/2020 15:21

Definitely agree, the girl cops it.

Bring on the appeal. Kate Flowers Digging here when you need it, this is a serious investment in a sane future for females.

Time too that we started a major public information campaign on what 'kind' means: because it doesn't mean 'doormat' or 'enabler' or 'taking abuse without protest' or 'codependent' or 'support human'. Women have been explaining about this shit for decades, we clearly haven't yet done it loud enough. Kindness is in the gift of the giver, a generosity of spirit. It isn't about shouting "thank you sir, please may I have another!"

Doobigetta · 14/02/2020 15:17

Why does the Daily Mail consistently refer to the claimant as “Ms Hayden”, but the defendant as “Scottow” throughout the article?

nachthexe · 14/02/2020 15:12

Jeez. Right now I’m taking a long deep breath and feeling thankful that I DIDN’T provide my contact details and prove my identity in order to keep my twitter account.
I hope both Maya and Kate’s appeals highlight the absolute mockery that is being made of the legal system by these self-appointed misogynistic twitter vigilantes.

GenderCriticalFeminist · 14/02/2020 15:05

Not the police - I mean the CPS.

GenderCriticalFeminist · 14/02/2020 15:05

Kate's trial wasnt anything to do with hate crime legislation was it?

Absolutely right. She was prosecuted under the 2003 Communications Act, which makes it a crime to "persistently make use of a public electronic communications network for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety".

Just think about that for a moment. Think about how many messages a day there are on Twitter that are designed to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety. Imagine what would happen if the police decided to prosecute them all.
