I think undermining Germaine Greer's legacy is the most anti-feminist action you could take.

I get the feeling that CM only celebrates state-sanctioned 'feminists', like Beyonce or Taylor Swift. The ones the men like.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 16/02/2020 13:57

I agree Jelly. Her articles are so juvenile.
I know that she started working at The Times when she was 15, but does she still have to write like one.

‘Your books and your sitcom Raised By Wolves are based on your real life. Do you ever worry that you’ll run out of material?
Within the panoply of fat, clever, working-class girls who really like to shag – I don’t think we’re overserved for those role models yet.’

Herocomplex · 16/02/2020 13:37

Gosh, so loyal. Any feminist worth their salt knows that Greer did the heavy lifting. At the very least she isn’t afraid of being disliked and ridiculed by stating her case.
Problematic!

JellyfishandShells · 16/02/2020 12:57

That Spiked review just perfectly encapsulated what irritates me about CM ! Brilliant .

Ameanstreakamilewide · 16/02/2020 12:48

In an interview last June, she said

'Who is your feminist mentor?
I loved Germaine Greer growing up – obviously she’s problematic now – but she wasn’t scared and I absolutely couldn’t imagine not being scared. Also when I was 17, Courtney Love took me under her wing – Suzanne is a bit based on her – I interviewed her a couple of times'.

Jesus wept and I couldn’t have agreed more with that Spiked review of her book.

Oh, and I'm blocked by her on Twitter after politely asking if she'd be talking about any GC issues during her shows.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 13/02/2020 22:36

I absolutely love Della, the mother character in her sitcom, Raised By Wolves.

Della would surely be GC (this quote is about periods):

I have never seen that review either - it holds no prisoners!

We're from the same region and I wanted to like her.

I just wish that she, or one of her friends, like Grace Dent, would say something.

Isn't she also friends with Hadley Freeman though?

KimikosDreamHouse · 13/02/2020 22:29

The classic scathing spiked review of How to Be A Woman

That is brilliant. I never liked her.

RubyViolet · 13/02/2020 21:53

She could maybe talk about this too. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/feb/13/female-homicide-victims-england-wales

But maybe that would upset the menz.

WeetabixBananaHipsterFFS · 13/02/2020 21:47

I read her first book when it came out and even at the time I found her incredibly irritating. I don't think has gotten better the last 10 years (or however long it is!).

I found her incredibly irritating on Naked City and that were nigh on thirty year ago...

Binterested · 13/02/2020 21:39

I’ll bet she is GC. But she won’t say one single word. Despicable.

One of the most depressing things in this whole thing is intelligent women crawling up the backside of the rainbow stasi.

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 13/02/2020 20:26

She just repeats herself endlessly on a few select, superficial topics. Not GC I wouldn't have thought

A vacant sound machine who piggy backs any trendy cause that's safe... Then the foghorn goes quiet when it's too controversial

RubyViolet · 13/02/2020 20:07

Who knows if she’s GC or pro genderism. By saying nothing meaningful about anything she’s protecting her brand.

MintySpud · 13/02/2020 20:05

She's infantile and a huge coward IMO.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 13/02/2020 20:04

Thanks for your info.

Yes - very disappointing.

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 13/02/2020 20:02

She has not shown one ounce of being GC.
I have been waiting for her to add her voice.
Tumbleweed.

Childrenofthestones · 13/02/2020 19:45

Is Moran GC or has she drunk the cool aid?

FebruaryRainandSleet · 13/02/2020 15:21

He'll sometimes say, 'Could you ask MN about [holidays in Ireland/new washing machines/special needs education/roofing felt]' but wouldn't dream of discussing it himself.

FebruaryRainandSleet · 13/02/2020 15:19

Crikey, I don't think DH 'discusses' anything on the internet (except maybe how to mend something obscure). He reads stuff but doesn't join in.

Herocomplex · 13/02/2020 14:26

it seems strange that one of the biggest issues in feminism is just not discussed by her.

RubyViolet · 13/02/2020 14:13

Herocomplex correct. That and the fact she doesn’t seem to be bothered. She monetised “Feminism” for the £££ and dropped it when it became too challenging.
