Central funding for DV services in many places is now conditional to centring males in women's spaces. These services are between a rock and hard place where they are forced to erode the trust of women who need the services most in return for money. If they try to go it alone then Vancouver Rape Relief is what happens.

Women are no longer centred in their own issues even the life threatening ones.

Half the deaths are intimate partner violence. Obviously not all could be prevented, but sure as shit a lot could, if the women were properly supported, and helped to reach safety.

charlie, it is in the report, implied though. 80 women last year were killed by current or former partners. The 10 year average is 82.
Given how small the number of female murderers is, it seems likely the vast majority of those partners were men. It does always interest me that it isnt spelt out though. Means you get all kinds of shit about violent lesbians from MRAs.

Basically though I am fed up hearing that men who do horrific things to women are somehow "other men". Its complete avoidance to deal with male violence and to distract us from talking about it. Most of the time it's not even factually correct.

That needs to be tweeted to ALL the Labour leader candidates. I assume they haven't actually read it because, you know, it's just women...

How do those figures translate into the percentages of different ethnicities in the population?
For example, white British people reportedly account for 81.9 percent of the population (so if violence equally likely in all communities you might propose a similar proportion, 82 percentish, of white on white victims?) , plus you have white Europeans etc, are they in "white on white" stats? Just trying to get my head round figures.

The 500 figure is all homicides. So yes, over 9 people killed a week, over 2 women killed in a domestic offence.

It is a terrible state of affairs when the murder rate of women and girls is at its highest rate for 14 years. I am so saddened and angry on behalf of those who lost their lives.

After watching the 4 candidates on Victoria Derbyshire this morning I was feeling so let down by Labour. Angry too.
In the context of this news release just a short time later, I'm still angry but am incredibly despondent.
I don't know what we can do that will make any difference as it's clear that our voices are not being heard, by anyone, especially the fucking Labour party.
Very afraid for the future of my younger sisters.

The stats in Germany are that every day a man tries to kill his wife/partner. Every three days one of them succeeds.

The first time I read that I thought this was a horrific stat that seemed to encompass the reality of domestic violence better than just focusing on actual murders.

It suggests that other countries collect stats on the attempted murder of wives or partners by a man.

Are we doing that in the UK? And if so, where would this be reported?

Is my maths right, that's 9 women and girls murdered every 2 weeks? Double the previous figure?

It is shocking.

Where is their outrage that women and girls are being murdered

Where is their pledge to end this specific violence.

Where are they all signing up to it ?

Not sure why you would say that skin, but all the ethnicity data is available in the data tables. Here's a screenshot of ethnicity vs suspect, showing white on white homicide makes up the majority (500 of 800 cases).

Just in the last week we had a so called progressive group protesting against women who were protesting against rape.

How can any of this be tackled if any mention of women as a class is denounced as bigoted and material analysis has been thrown out of the window.

These are bleak times.

It would be interesting to see the ethnic origin breakdown of the figures. Violence against women seems more prevalent in certain groups.

Funding for housing, DV services, properly-resourced shelters, training, childcare...

But how are these going to get on the agenda when parties are engaged in removing the role of the judiciary to challenge them or enmeshed in ever-tightening purity spirals?

Misogyny is on the rise. Women's rights are being eroded. These things are linked.
