I'm also familiar with Beardy. I'm in Hove with a moderate and hugely popular Labour MP, Peter Kyle. Beardy and his Momentum cronies have been gunning for Kyle for months, machinations in the local council elections may have put him at risk were it not for the December election which returned Peter with a huge majority, dwarfing Beardy's. He's a bully, none too bright either.

@KatieAlcock will be interested in hearing that, Mockersisrightasusual GGUK have expensive lawyers to pay too.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 12/02/2020 13:05

Bearded man was so angry, it was quite shocking to see.

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 13:05

Show ended on an interesting note. Tracey Brabin is auctioning that dress, with all proceeds to Girlguinding because, she says, "They do so much to help the confidence of girls."

Thanks AnotherNight and Sprouts

On its own the Selina Clip is so measured and commonsensical (Is that even a word?) I thought it was odd that the BBC chose this as their clip - I hadn't realised that there were others!

The tabloid propaganda newspaper reminded me of Militant, which I used to sell when I was a student and in the Young Socialists. The content of the paper was very simplistic and one sided compared to the complex debates that actually went on in Militant and one of the reasons I started going to Militant meetings was that they had long intelligent (but male dominated) debates on policy where as the local LP ward meetings seemed boring and tied up in procedure and discussing fundraising jumble sales etc not what the LP actually stood for.
There were a lot of intelligent journalists, teachers and social workers in Militant who were more Guardian readers than Sun readers so I asked why The Militant was so simplistic.
"It's aimed at "the workers" and they can't read very well and prefer papers like The Sun" was my answer.
Ironic when the people buying it from me were largely middle aged middle class looking commuters who looked like they normally read broadsheets.
I think producing a paper for an imaginary audience of other people who aren't like you is usually a mistake. It's patronising and it's silly. A paper for the thick Labour Party people "up North" rather than the LP intelligentsia in Islington who can cope with The Guardian.
(The only paper I now subscribe to is The Spectator which does have a variety of views despite its right wing posh boy bias)

Ugh. LRM is unfortunately my local MP and showed me very little respect or willingness to listen when I approached him on this topic with vast amounts of evidence as to how this harms women. He acted like a gigantic prick who can't listen to other people then, and all

In his mind, he was probably dunking you in the river to see if you are witch.

EwwSprouts · 12/02/2020 13:00

x-post

EwwSprouts · 12/02/2020 12:59

TheShoesa yes here you go, beardy speaking first before he decided to rant over everyone.

Interesting that the clip on AnotherNights's link is the calmly stated GC position of Selina Todd.

Is this the BBC showing the other side?

Awning10 · 12/02/2020 12:42

"the Labour party will never be voted for again."

DP quote "the Conservative party must be rubbing their hands in glee... all they need to do is keep showing that up north and they'll never be voted for ever again."

Explain yourself fully or be expelled. This is no different to the Spanish Inquisition. 500 years ago, this bloke would have been stretching people on a rack and burning them at the stake.

GCAcademic · 12/02/2020 12:37

Selina made a good point that this expressed disregard for democracy within the Labour party does not bode well for a Labour government upholding democracy in the country at large. A point which the bearded twat helpfully and amply illustrated by his shouting over her and Shaun Bailey with his reality-denying mantras. He also raised alarm bells in the previous segment about how Labour should have its own propaganda publication cunningly disguised as a tabloid newspaper with sport and celebrity gossip to lure in the thick plebs.

Imagine if they actually got into power and extended this policy to the population at large. The 90% of the population that doesn't believe that women can have a penis would be locked up in re-education camps. No wonder people think that Labour can't be trusted with the economy - there would be no one working, other than as Red Guards!

AmericanSlang · 12/02/2020 12:37

Mangoes I was at her workshop too! She is massively intelligent and well read, also warm, compassionate and articulate - worth a million million beardies

JessicaLangoustine · 12/02/2020 12:36

I wonder if he watches that back and realises just how badly he comes across. Just really immature.

Nobody that stupid with that amount of power has got to where they have got through self reflection. This is the power of a sociopath, they have total self belief. It's very hard for those used to measured, reasoned and open debate, who have logic, science and reason on their side, to argue with these people. The old adage is "you can't argue with stupid". You can't argue with the brainwashed, and you can't argue with the sociopath either. These movements (like Scientology and all other new religions) absolutely rely on their members giving up all logic, reason, material reality. They ask you to believe the unbelievable as "proof" of your goodness. If you do not, you are, what Scientology coins, a "suppressive person" (same as a transphobe, or a heretic).

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 12/02/2020 12:31

How often we see that expression in the eyes of a male when we're saying something that doesn't have their full approval.
Yyy, seen this all my life. Pure misogyny. Nothing else there.

Selina Todd Flowers my shero!!! I was at her workshop in the WPUK conference.... She is awesome.

Joisanofthedales · 12/02/2020 12:27

Selina brilliant.
Beardy woke bloke MP repulsive misogynist

Mockersisrightasusual · 12/02/2020 12:25

Beardy twat is an MP!

From Brighton, Beadytwat Central, and they have a right to be represented.

Winesalot · 12/02/2020 12:25

Yes. His support of limiting the discussion points for any future debate was frightening indeed.

However, the debate does need to be very long as so many issues feed into this one umbrella topic. As we saw with the complication for points for discussion for webchats.

LouHotel · 12/02/2020 12:19

Beardy twat is an MP!

Oh come off it I thought at worse he would be a political adviser.

Michelleoftheresistance · 12/02/2020 12:18

I wish the gloves would come off on tv at this point and it would just be said as straight as it is on twitter, your position is anti woman and anti LGB. You cannot say female single sex spaces and single sex rights and biology is transphobic and deny it.

And I'm sick of the whole 'we need a debate' line. No, we don't need a debate, a debate isn't possible any more, the people that would need to turn up from the gender id extremist movement do not have the capacity to debate. As he's said, if women are allowed to the table at all in his opinion then they must first be strait jacketed with what they're allowed to say and talk about (and women having rights won't be included.)

Trans people can do whatever the hell they want, crack on.
But female rights, safeguarding and single sex spaces get ring fenced. End of. Additional resources gonna be needed because female people's resources aren't available.
