Fabulous article:

Speaking out against transgender extremists has made me the most hated man on the internet, writes Father Ted creator GRAHAM LINEHAN

Oh do stop your nonsense about dick pandering! It’s very insulting to the many women who appreciate or like the article because of the information that the public are gaining from reading it. It’s got fuck all to do with dick pandering and I would feel the same if a woman wrote it. How incredibly patronising to think we only like it because a man wrote it. I don’t think it’s those of us who appreciate the article that are suffering from internal misogyny, to be honest.

Well done for giving the TRAs fodder for their twitter threads. They must think it’s hilarious that women are fighting over a man writing an article that supports free speech.

IfNot · 09/02/2020 16:11

Venice like I said I don't do Twitter, but I read those tweets as jokes!?
Especially the last one!

Tootsweets23 · 09/02/2020 16:08

Can I add that this subject really needs to become mainstream, and well known people who break cover and say we need a debate on this are essential to that happening. Glinner is part of the mainstreaming of this subject, and hopefully more well known people will do likewise.

While Julie Bindel et al have fought so hard (and have my eternal love and admiration for their campaigning) they simply aren't mainstream or well known enough to break through to Mr and Mrs Middle UK. We can't just speak to ourselves on this subject otherwise we will get nowhere.

Glinner is well known enough to get two articles in the Sunday papers, and that he is willing to put his reputation and income on the line is to be applauded.

Fantastic, informed comments on the Times article. I'm sure some of the commenters are MNers. Jo March? She always has good things to say on Times GC articles.

What Floisme said.

The idea that women's voices saying the same things aren't also celebrated on here is ridiculous - they are also routinely celebrated.

The point is we need more people saying the same stuff too. If they're well-known men? Fine, welcome on board. If we only allow the truly pure (and only women) to speak, very, very few people are going to hear the message.

Lamahaha · 09/02/2020 15:56

I'm wondering if this has something to do about the Purity Spirals MNers were discussing on another thread.
I agree with SophoclestheFox.

I also wouldn't watch porn now, and I believe Glinner has said similar also. People learn and change.

Kantastic · 09/02/2020 15:54

okay VeniceAllen thank you for explaining, I'm now clear that allegation was 100% pot stirring. The joke you tweeted was not by any stretch of the imagination "campaigning for porn."

I too have watched porn in the past. I didn't make any jokes about it on Twitter, but only because I wasn't on Twitter at the time.

SophocIestheFox · 09/02/2020 15:53

Ah. Dankula, not duckula. See? Clueless Grin

Thanks terry and dream

Thing is, I struggle to see the difference between the former friend who called me a transphobic bigot and deleted me off Facebook simply for saying I like Sarah Ditum’s writing, and people here telling me I’m a dickpanderer if I say I like what Glinner has written.

How are they different?

Floisme · 09/02/2020 15:40

Not only do I not understand all these personal histories and entanglements, I'm not really interested in them. The main thing I care about is whether this person at this particular moment is doing or saying something that supports women and children.

terryleather · 09/02/2020 15:37

Agree Sophocles

Dreamprincess · 09/02/2020 15:31

SophocIestheFox thank you for your comments. I tried, but you have put it so much more eloquently.

SophocIestheFox · 09/02/2020 15:19

I’m really sorry to hear of women having bad experiences with Glinner- I truly am, and I believe you, and it’s an unacceptable way for him to behave.

But most of us are not deeply involved to the extent that we understand the histories of who has tangled with whom, who’s blocked someone, who has a history on a different topic that people may not have heard of (I have no idea who or what duckula might be, for example).

This is absolutely a feminist issue, but it’s not just a feminist issue. I wouldn’t want to silence anyone from this debate, not at all, but I find it a bit wearing to be told that I can’t comment on an article because the person who wrote it is an insufferable tosser. What of it? A man who has been an insufferable tosser on a number of topics wrote a good article, laying out the basics, and got it placed in a national newspaper. I want to be able to read it and comment on it without fretting myself inside out that I’m betraying feminism.

Languishingfemale · 09/02/2020 15:13

Sigh.... thread about Glinner or Posie that should say.

Languishingfemale · 09/02/2020 15:12

The comments under the article in the Times are excellent with a wide variety of posters commenting - and some brilliant GC women posting insightful, educated posts. It's a sign that the general public are starting to understand what is happening - especially the harm to children.

There are countess threads on this board highlighting many brilliant articles about all this and I've learnt so much from reading such a range. But I do get a bit Hmm when posters pop up to scold women on here for starting a thread Glinner or Posie for example. Given the extent of regulatory capture we face, I'm pleased to see people speaking out publicly about this.

VeniceAllan · 09/02/2020 15:07

@AutumnRose1 I've seen him say how awful child porn is, but a lot of men do that to separate it from their pleasure of wanking to videos of young women being humiliated.

ChattyLion · 09/02/2020 15:03

I am really not seeing women’s achievements being glossed over or ignored- We celebrate their wins all the time on FWR.

We celebrate whether they are individuals doing their own thing like Magdalen was, like Jean has been doing for years or Posie and Julia Long more recently and Fiona MacKenzie with We Can’t Consent to this which might be about to change the law.
Or like the grassroots groups campaigning and holding events, like Get the L Out, WPUK, We need to Talk or the different Resisters networks or Charlie’s Detransition advocacy network.
Or like the legal and policy trailblazers like the NHS Tavi whistleblowers, like Maya’s appeal or Susan Evans and Keira Bell with their consent case, like Helen and Katie taking on GGUK policies.
Or a mega celeb like JK Rowling putting her unbelievably massive Twitter following to excellent use by speaking up for women and biological truth.

^Even on that list there are people who massively disagree with each other abo how things should be done. That’s OK.

Partly these are celebrated because it’s an achievement for these women just to keep going or to get a win, and partly quite a few of us seem to celebrate consciously because celebrating is needed to keep going. it too often feels like one step forward and two steps back. It will always be that way.

This article in the Daily Mail today interviewing Glinner is an achievement. He got a great deal (but not all) of the points in, in a very readable way.

Yes it’s unfair that Glinner gets to talk about the personal impact this is having on him while lots of others are also personally impacted and will never be able to get the press attention but what should he do? He already had the platform he has. Should he shut up and not talk about the issues any more? pretend it’s all fine when even a powerful male media figure like him speaks up and gets legal hassle costing him thousands of pounds. I’d much rather he did tweet to his big Twitter following about these issues and the authoritarian fuckwits who try to bully others into silence.

Also there’s usually nothing new under the sun: nicking other people’s ideas is relevant when it comes to artistic creation or scientific advancement but in sex and gender politics, lots of us come to the same political conclusions with no political activist background or education but just on moral conviction and experience. It’s not rocket science any of this. The wrongs facing women and children are so stark it’s hard not to draw similar conclusions. More people talking about it is a good thing.

terryleather · 09/02/2020 15:03

Indeed Floisme

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd eat that filthy fucking WBH every day for a month if she was able to come back to FWR...

AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 15:03

If you google Glinner on porn, as a pp suggested, you get him talking about him realising it’s harmful.

VeniceAllan · 09/02/2020 14:58

@kantastic pot stirring? The way I see it, porn and trans are all part of the same war on women.

Kathleen Stock - sorry.

Floisme · 09/02/2020 14:49

Going back to Lang, one of the things that I always found interesting about her is that I never knew what her personal views were about Glinner or Venice or Posey or Julie Bindel or Kathleen Stick and so on. I'm sure she must have had her opinions on all of them but she kept them to herself. I always assumed that was because she didn't think they were relevant to these boards. I am very much reminded of her today.

Imnobody4 · 09/02/2020 14:35

Well I don't know who Amalfimanna is so can't follow on Twitter although I might be, I follow a lot of women. Being on Mumsnet is fine but doesn't get the message out to those outside. Glinner reaches a broad range of people many who aren't feminists which is rather the point.
That isn't feminism. It's dickpandering and internalized misogny. Give yerselves a fucking wobble and with that you completely lost me.

Amalfimamma · 09/02/2020 14:32

Dreamprincess

Ah sarcasm.

Good for you. The thing is you don't know who I am in Twitter so you may be asking a complete and utter fool of yourself.

Sorry. You are making a complete and utter fool of yourself defending a man over an established feminist.

Go well

Dreamprincess · 09/02/2020 14:26

Amalfimamma Excellent summary. Well done. Everyone please do not use someone like Ginner who can broadcast widely our problems with child disfigurement. Amalfimanna has a much larger audience on twitter, mumsnet, MSM etc. Hail Amalfimanna!!
