Sorry if this has been covered already but I’ve been offline all day - has there been any discussion re PS’s announcement today on this board? Especially in relation to wife and daughters

OP posts:

For a while now I've assumed James O'Brien claiming "not to have seen it like that" is simply an act. He can do the beardy woke bro thing to earn points, then play the "not seen it like that" card when it's pointed out how he disregards the rights of, say, women, and does a performance of open mindedness to earn more points.

The notable thing about O'Brien's "not to have seen it like that" is that even when he says "oh, I see now", within a short time he's back to his previous beardy woke bro-compatible views.

Kilbranan · 08/02/2020 19:47

Wow that runner is very young! 21 or 22....to PS’s 57! I wonder if his side of things will come out or not

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/02/2020 19:42

James O'Brien not thinking about things from a woman’s perspective

Oh second big shock of the week Hmm

nauticant · 08/02/2020 19:41

I wonder if he's been reflecting on what befell Derek Mackay over the past few days.

KoreSolanum · 08/02/2020 19:40

I think it's possible to both understand that it can be hard to come out as gay, even in 2020, and to undersand that it could be devastating to find out that your husband is gay after so many years of marriage.

One doesn't negate the other.

We aren't yet in a society that fully accepts that LGB people exist and are allowed to love who they love - I know I was shocked when a 19 year old I worked with told me that he'd dated a girl because he was so terrified of the reaction if people realised he was gay. This was only a couple of years ago. (To his credit he was deeply ashamed of using her in this way, and had apologised to her for it, thankfully it was very short lived.) So I think it can still be a brave thing to come out.

But it doesn't change that, if she wasn't aware of this prior to marriage and kids, it's likely to be an awfully painful shock. I know I'd be broken up about it, it would taint a lot of good memories for me. And create a lot of self doubt.

cheeseomelette · 08/02/2020 19:38

Yep, apparently known the lad since he was 15. Helped him get his big break into tv. Took him under his wing. Grooming, essentially.

I am really angry about the manipulation of this. It utterly stinks. No wonder Ruth, eamon, fern et al are furious. Anyone decent would be.

Sagradafamiliar · 08/02/2020 19:35

I'm starting to think the tears were genuine now, but not for the reason he would've had us believe. He's shitting himself if those twitter screenshots are to be believed.

Jillyhilly · 08/02/2020 19:23

Oh the badass women have now moved on to the joys of polyamory. Which is also about “speaking your truth” and “living your best life”, no doubt.

HeIenaDove · 08/02/2020 19:23

I wonder if there is going to be any acknowledgement of the age gap. There certainly would be if the runner was a woman!

Jillyhilly · 08/02/2020 19:20

Here we go again. 2 female hosts on talk radio, “Badass womens hour” apparently, plus a female guest from Stonewall going on yet again about STUNNING AND BRAVE Philip Scofield.

What about his wife whom he’s effectively completely snookered in this situation???

HeIenaDove · 08/02/2020 19:12

@ginandbearit i once saw a post on this board saying that gay men had come further in 50 years than women have in 150 years.

museumsandgalleries666 · 08/02/2020 19:03

Have to confess I hadn’t realised he wasn’t gay, tbh. But I don’t think it’s homophobic to feel that it’s a shit way to treat your spouse to basically dump them publicly, announce to the world that the marriage was a sham, you’d basically duped them into being a beard, and then garner praise for how ‘brave’ you are to do all of this. It smacks of her just being a bit-part in his life story for him, doesn’t show her any (public) respect as a complete independent human whose life he has massively changed by doing this.

This is GARBAGE , they adore each other

GenderIsBollox · 08/02/2020 19:00

Thought ‘coming out’ isn’t A thing anymore, so last decade. Screams of attention seeking.

ginandbearit · 08/02/2020 18:59

James O'Brien on LBC was being all cool.and woke about this until a woman phoned in to express her dismay at finding out her husband was gay from one of his lovers. All sorts of distress about her marrige being a lie was discussed and O'Brien confessed to being shocked at the womans perspective, in that it hadn't occurred to him that there were other sides to this ..I wonder if he'll listen to Trans widows with more sympathy now ..

Drabarni · 08/02/2020 18:46

The "I didn't like myself very much" speech was just cringe worthy.
It's all me me me isn't it?

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 08/02/2020 17:58

It seems like everyone he works with can’t stand him beyond HW going by the other suggested articles on that article (“ex co star brands him a t**t” etc). That alone seems telling.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/02/2020 17:55

Agree InfiniteSheldon there was nothing wrong with your post

Does MN get mentioned on This Morning ? Probably

nauticant · 08/02/2020 17:37

The reality is looking sordid enough. But to have his PRs spin in a web to trap his wife an family in a false narrative is very unpleasant.

cheeseomelette · 08/02/2020 17:33

Exactly. My feed is full of people fawning over him now. It's pr genius. Had to be that emotional and staged a reveal to stop a gigantic looming backlash.

In the cold light of day it's just sordid. His poor family.

nauticant · 08/02/2020 17:30

Phil has got in there first

That's more than half the battle. He'll have got a large number of people to make an emotional investment in his narrative and they'll cling to it even when a far less flattering truth emerges. The PRs have earned their money in this business.

LimboLandisRubbish · 08/02/2020 17:18

Phil has got in there first before the runner gets his double spread in some tatty rag. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it.

InfiniteSheldon · 08/02/2020 17:12

His poor wife is very unlikely to be able to trust anyone again her life has been severely damaged wether she found out 24 hours before he announced or ten years.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 08/02/2020 16:55

Well I hope that runner is already out to his family and friends then if he's being named all over social media

Well according to the people on this thread it's no big deal and nobody gives a shit what sexual orientation people are.

cheeseomelette · 08/02/2020 16:48

Well I hope that runner is already out to his family and friends then if he's being named all over social media. Shock

Dreamprincess · 08/02/2020 16:20

Reverting to the past. Many, many years ago my aunt, who lived in Soho, was very theatrical and adored entertaining male actors who were (now) very obviously gay (although that word meant something else entirely). I suppose a sort of beard. However, we accepted these men for themselves, as their sexual orientation was of no interest to us

My only concern with PS's wife is if she was hoping her marriage meant she has a life-long companion. No doubt he will have plenty of interest from his chosen community: it is, unfortunately, less easy for a woman of advancing years. She either goes younger (hello Egypt from recent reports), or bags herself someone who is set in his ways and/or has life threatening health problems. Speaking for a friend, obviously....…...
