Sorry if this has been covered already but I’ve been offline all day - has there been any discussion re PS’s announcement today on this board? Especially in relation to wife and daughters

Ruth and Eamonn have gone up in my estimation. Also Amanda Holden. You stood up to PS at your peril it seems.

People with something to hide can be extraordinarily ruthless.

(Sorry Ruth, not intended as a pun Blush )

Lordfrontpaw · 09/02/2020 13:20

Well, who knew she wouldn’t be dancing a jig?

Wouldn’t we all be happy as Larry if our other halves came out as gay? Why on earth would we be unhappy? 🙄

Phillip Schofield's wife Stephanie Lowe 'absolutely shattered' by him coming out gay

Despite being Phillip's rock and supporting his decision, a friend close to the couple has told The Mirror that Stephanie is "absolutely shattered" that "they have been living a lie for so long."

"Steph is being a rock for Phillip, as she always has been, but there's no denying she is absolutely shattered by all this.

Well.

Kilbranan · 09/02/2020 13:00

I agree actually EH has gone up in my estimations given his quip about the hot tub which I didn’t fully appreciate at the time. And the same for anyone else who has tried to complain about PS

nauticant · 09/02/2020 12:51

Yes, but there's a difference between many people knowing and it becoming an acknowledged truth in the media and by the Establishment. For the PR narrative to be displaced will mean a lot of people with much at stake owning up and saying "I've been a mug" or "it suited me to go along with the PR".

LimboLandisRubbish · 09/02/2020 12:44

Phil The Liar is rumbled. Many of us haven't fallen for the sham.

lynsey91 · 09/02/2020 12:36

He says his wife has known for a little while. So not 30 years then and yet he says they have no secrets! He also says he knew when they married that he was gay.

What a horrible man. If the rumours about the young runner are true then he is vile. Makes more sense that that is the reason Ruth fell out with him

Jocasta2018 · 09/02/2020 12:27

So he's admitted he knew he was gay when he got married 27 years ago in The Sun interview. I hope he was open with her and told her he was Bi from the start and as soon as he realised he was gay he let her know.
If he was having gay trysts then I hope there was the same arrangement for his wife otherwise a sexless marriage, knowing your husband desired other men, that you were his beard must've been pretty miserable.

Dozer · 09/02/2020 12:22

Pretty shitty deal for Holly, actually.

Lordfrontpaw · 09/02/2020 12:02

Even if the wife knew - was this part of ‘the deal’? I don’t suppose they will be together now and/or she will see him in the paper with new partners (not playing happy families on the red carpet).

Of course maybe she just said ‘I’m too old for this nonsense, I’m out!’. She deserves a real partner surely?

SalmonOfKnowledge · 09/02/2020 11:48

Ruth and Eamonn have gone up in my estimation. Also Amanda Holden. You stood up to PS at your peril it seems.

And it will all be buried under the ''so stunning and brave'' chess move here.

SalmonOfKnowledge · 09/02/2020 11:47

Gawd......... this is all pretty unsavoury. HOw is HOlly sitting beside him cuddling him like he's a poor lost soul.

NumbersStation · 09/02/2020 11:45

If his wife was in the know from the get go, it still doesn’t make it grand having her personal business outed just because he chose to do it.

I’m waiting for the skeletons to come gliding out of the cupboard like swans because I can’t think why else this has happened in the way it has.

karencantobe · 09/02/2020 11:41

Yes there has been a long history on TV of novelty funny gay men.

FreshStart01 · 09/02/2020 11:36

*aware of

FreshStart01 · 09/02/2020 11:36

Is it possible/probable that his wife was fully aware of his gay relations that everyone in the business seemed to know about back in the 80s but he persuaded her/himself that he was bi? Or he is genuinely bi but that doesn't work so well with recent affair which they figured if it did come out then could be put down to his mental state and a breakdown having supressed it for so long? Then it can be put down to out of chatacter behaviour rather than just being a pattern of infidelity? Which presumably wife was not aware off, so still poor woman.

Extracurricularfatigue · 09/02/2020 11:34

Julian Clary’s career was OK because he was a comedy novelty gay man, not entirely different to camp comedians of the past, but a bit more outrageous. His career was almost ended forever by his ‘fisting’ joke at the Comedy Awards in the 90s as it was too sexual - and that was at an event which was pretty adult in nature.

Mummyzzz044 · 09/02/2020 11:34

Anyone else looked at their DH and told them they better not be fucking gay 😂..

Womenwotlunch · 09/02/2020 11:29

My thoughts are with his wife.
PS is a selfish , narcissist asshole. The end

sashh · 09/02/2020 11:22

One person posted that homosexuality had only been legalised a few years earlier. I mean I suppose a few is subjective but still, 1967 to the mid 80s is a fair bit of time!

Have a look at Scottish and NI law.

Then have a look at the comments made by the chief constable of Manchester in relation to AIDS.

Then read up on Section 28.

Whilst most of the country didn't care who was gay and people like Julian Clary were doing well you would not get a job as a children's presenter if you were openly gay.

That said, things are different now and have been for a while.

Tomorrow though, ITV staff are expecting a ratings boost when Schofield and Willoughby return to their presenting duties.

Shocker.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2020 11:06

Somebody has fixed it for PS. But I don’t want to be in his gang

Ouch.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2020 11:04

The Mail on Sunday has learned that Friday’s announcement followed a frenzied 24 hours for ITV, during which a carefully orchestrated plan was put in motion to ensure his coming out went without a hitch. Rumours have circulated within the showbusiness world that the announcement may have been prompted by an approach to Schofield from a media organisation. This was said to have led to discussions between the TV presenter, his representatives, ITV head of daytime Emma Gormley and This Morning editor Martin Frizell. It is understood those present were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements to prevent damaging leaks.

And

It is understood Frizell had toiled until the early hours ensuring that Schofield’s Instagram and Twitter posts announcing his coming out – issued to coincide with his televised revelation – were word perfect. He also worked on the interview with Schofield that co-presenter Holly Willoughby was preparing to conduct, post announcement.

The only other party who knew of the plans except Schofield’s family was the £30,000-per-month crisis management firm Phil Hall Associates who he instructed to work on his behalf three months ago when allegations of bullying by Schofield – which he angrily denied – began to circulate.

So sincere and from the heart...

... Via the crisis management team and pr vetting to strike the desired and most positive tone for his career.

Yes brave and stunning.

If you can afford the fees to be.

Ha ha ha. Very good.
