Very pleased. About time.
The point about younger women being scared about speaking up was spot on.

LilyRed · 07/02/2020 10:39

Just managed to listen - Thankyou WH! Thankyou to all the women who spoke and attended. I think most, if not all, points were briefly covered at last.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 07/02/2020 10:39

HJ and SS - well done!

WH - more emphasis on content and why this matters please

JG did say the gender issue will be discussed in later program... we’ll see...

ContessaferJones · 07/02/2020 10:38

I'm going to give JG the benefit of the doubt and suggest that she did it that way on purpose because #balance. But that was simply fab :)

Great interviewees. Wonder what the response will be.

Beamur · 07/02/2020 10:37

Really good and clear. Nice work by all concerned.

nauticant · 07/02/2020 10:36

Overall very positive although that was mainly because Helen Joyce managed to get many issues introduced in a short hand way rather than Jane Garvey seeking to inform the audience.

ContessaferJones · 07/02/2020 10:36

Oh that was amazing!!

They got in about men in women’s prisons-yay

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:35

HJ doing a great job.

GlomOfNit · 07/02/2020 10:35

Bloody brilliant stuff. Thank you WH for covering this. And thank you Professor Sophie Scott, who has a very healthy and visible media presence quite apart from her international academic reputation, for having the bravery for speaking out about these issues on radio. (Her Twitter feed shows that she's been courageous about talking up about this for some time.)

AbsintheFriends · 07/02/2020 10:34

HJ talking about ageism too - I'm feeling quite emotional at hearing all this openly discussed.

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:34

God, I love Sophie Scott. Robust defence of mn, and women speaking in general.

ContessaferJones · 07/02/2020 10:34

I love the guests - they are getting it all in

Well, I've never heard such honest, open discussion. This is really quite astonishing.

"Bad things that happen to women happen to lesbians first."

nauticant · 07/02/2020 10:32

Helen Joyce being effectively angry about the shutting down of debate.

It is very strange though to have a programme about women choosing to debate but gliding over what the debate was actually about. The presenter is far happier talking about 50 years old than what happened within the past few days.

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:32

Lesbian visibility

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:31

Praise for ucl

Good point from Jane on difficulties of hosting.

ContessaferJones · 07/02/2020 10:30

Ooh, good soundbite there

Love the way they're talking about the protesters! 'They were really very sweet' Grin

This is the way to go. The TRA will HATE it. Grin

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:30

Protestors 'added to the jolity'.

Novina · 07/02/2020 10:29

Younger women: my 15 year old came.

ContessaferJones · 07/02/2020 10:29

I wonder if it's a deliberate decision to not focus on the content...
