with Michael Walker, who I really rate, btw -- clearly miles ahead of the others at Novara and always worth listening to.

I am, ridiculously, saddened by this.

They don’t want real power to govern and having to make hard decisions, much easier life to be student protester types in opposition, virtue signalling and standing up for as many victims as they can find. That’s why They are holding onto identity politics, they would lack purpose otherwise.

I really believe this. Its the only explanation for how they can be so utterly shite and tone deaf to the general public, not just on identity politics but on everything. They don't actually want power because then they will have to actually make the tough decisions rather than just virtue signalling.

MarchDaffs · 05/02/2020 15:31

Yeah, it's not like the MN feminism board gets millions of visitors or anything...

TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/02/2020 15:29

No wonder decent people ignore Mumsnet

It’s the biggest parenting site in the UK, a successful women-centered business and is courted by politicians from every political party for every election.

But do go on.

@TerribleCustomerCervix well I was thinking more of 30 Rock but yes, that's the idea!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/02/2020 15:12

Rebecca Wrong-Daily's idiocy is cringeworthy.

Clueless and consigning Labour to yet more wilderness years for trying to court the woke vote. It won't be enough, it is never enough.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/02/2020 15:09

So like a political version of The Producers, Lordfrontpaw?

Can’t wait to hear It’s Springtime for TERFs sung by Dr Harrop.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/02/2020 15:01

I strongly suspect Labour are just tanking it now. Like the Greens did. Why else would they shoot themselves in the foot like that? They may as well say 'I kick kittens for fun'.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/02/2020 14:52

Meh.

It’s hardly a surprise, and unlikely to actually mean anything since Labour have made themselves unelectable for at least another decade.

Did anyone see that staffer from Elizabeth Warren’s campaign who was secretly recorded? Some of them know fine rightly that this isn’t a vote winner, that chasing a tiny minority (who, shocker, were already going to vote left anyway) isn’t going to win elections like education, healthcare and housing does.

andyoldlabour · 05/02/2020 14:44

Here is where Labour lost seats in the election, if they cannot see the reason then they shouldn't be playing at politics.

andyoldlabour · 05/02/2020 14:39

Rebecca Long Bailey - "My crusade to make Labour unelectable ", this is a series where the title remains the same, but the author changes.

MarchDaffs · 05/02/2020 14:31

Silly cow.

Clesna · 05/02/2020 11:43

Well sure, I mean there is a debate here in my 'red wall' Northern town. It's a hot topic - all the women I know talk about it. But we keep quiet around political people because you don't know what they might do. Nobody wants to get 'fired on Twitter' or whatever (not very likely, but you know what I mean). But I know quite a few women in/supporters of Momentum and in private they are all against self-id --though some of them support self-id for kids, which I find incoherent but maybe if we could talk about it more I'd understand where they were coming from more.

I wonder if anyone ever writes back with a list of the reasons why they won't be returning.

LouHotel · 05/02/2020 10:55

I keep getting ‘please return to labour’ letters and I do consider but there’s always something on this forum that reminds how far out of my sight they’ve become.

jellyfrizz · 05/02/2020 10:55

Yes, that was a stock answer, but the question was framed terribly, too "Should there be a debate about trans rights".

I agree it's a badly framed question.

It's like the 'should people be free to choose their own gender identity' question. Yeah, sure, as long as you don't conflate it with sex.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 05/02/2020 10:50

The best we can expect is to be part of a group who are less apathetic and numb with life, to go out kicking and screaming pointing out the divide rather than watching TV and letting it happen.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 05/02/2020 10:46

That's the youth who are at state schools mock, they don't matter a jot, they are the general public, they are us, we never wanted this and never will. We don't matter, nobody represents us in politics.

I'm talking about the youth of the powerful, the youth who will be in power one day, they've all been hooked.

Mockersisrightasusual · 05/02/2020 10:43

Youth are tribal. The lot coming up through the schools now are taking the piss out of identity politics something rotten, rather like how we mocked old hippies in the 80s.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 05/02/2020 10:41

youth are fickle and will move on soon enough.

That's not true, if you get them young, you tend to get them for life.

CharlieParley · 05/02/2020 10:25

Sorry, RLB not RBL!

CharlieParley · 05/02/2020 10:24

Yes, that was a stock answer, but the question was framed terribly, too "Should there be a debate about trans rights".

I mean you'd be hard pressed to answer that one with a "this isn't a debate that's pro or anti trans rights but pro or anti self-id" if you don't have the time to properly explain yourself (I do realise RBL likely doesn't understand the issue at all. Finding that with a lot of politicians who have only listened to the pro self-id side on this).

Tootsweets23 · 05/02/2020 10:23

RLB is a total nitwit. And unconvincing with it.

Thought termination is such a great description! A v smart woman I know said she can't discuss this subject at all with her 19 year old daughter. Even asking simple questions to understand her position gets shut down with "your a bigot/TWAW/trans rights are human rights" and that's it. No explaination or discussion, just as assumption that the act of asking questions is a betrayal of the cause.

Culty culty. But something Stephanie Davi s-Arai said, (to paraphrase) this is a youth movement (albeit underscore by middle aged blokes), and youth are fickle and will move on soon enough.

Mockersisrightasusual · 05/02/2020 10:22

Fucking Useless.

Wouldn't let her run a bath.
