March of the thought police Harry Miller

There is a great article in the DM about Harry Miller's case. The article describes the CPS' pivotal role in pursuing hate incidents which are not crimes. It questions whether these investigations are a legitimate use of police resources when police are failing to investigate crimes like burglary and rape cases rarely reach prosecution. It discusses the inherently problematic nature of the subjective interpretation of non crime incidents and identifies the fact that police guidelines were influenced by transgender lobby groups. The fact that the police are spending time pursuing individuals on Twitter for crime non crimes should concern everyone concerned with freedom of speech and how it is being threatened by the new totalitarians.

^I have broad shoulders, but this fight is hard. If ordinary people like myself don't stand up against what I see as over-reaching authority by the police,
who will?^

boaty is that article of Lang's still searchable on here, please, cos i had no joy with Google?

I think boaty is referring to a post which I can't find but I have a bit of copied:

LangCleg wrote Thu 21-Feb-19

"How did the scandal of TV entertainers grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

How did the scandal of Catholic priests grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

How did the scandal of on-street gangs grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

Because if you create a sacred caste of any group and silence anyone asking questions about individuals on behalf of the sacred caste, abusers will see, infiltrate, and groom and exploit children. That''s how.”

I so fucking miss Lang Cleg, and I'm still angry about what was done to her, because she wasn't "kind" enough. I'd like the term "sacred caste" to become more common, it describes these types of situations so well. I wish the only sacred caste was children.

I don't think they are showing the judge the instruments of torture. More likely this is the backlog in the Christmas post and the Min of Justice photocopier running out of toner.

AlunWynsKnee · 01/02/2020 11:35

We should be focusing on what the public tell me they care about,' she said in November 2018, in response to the idea that London's hate crime units should expand their remit beyond the 2014 guidelines to include misogyny (ingrained prejudice against women).
The quote above from the article reporting Cressida Dick is telling. The idea that they include misogyny in the remit is not something the public care about apparently.

Just have an image of the judge locked in a cellar being re-educated. He seems to be holding out, they can't keep him imprisoned much longer surely. I hope he doesn't crack

I expect they are wading through every law book in the country desperately trying to find some ancient clause that no one knows about that will get them off the hook for what he knows he now has to do...

Something I said once on another thread:

How did the scandal of TV entertainers grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

How did the scandal of Catholic priests grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

How did the scandal of on-street gangs grooming and exploiting children get so bad before anything was done?

There are some staggering statistics in that article.

900 hate crime officer in Scotland Yard alone.

87,000 hate incidents logged - none of which break the law. (So 87,000 people in the UK have a "non-crime hate incident" on their record?)

Scotland Yard have logged 9473 over the past 5yrs.

(Someone in the comments has done the maths. "So 900 police officers have statistically solved 2 hate crimes each per year according to the police figures? But mugging and burglary can't be investigated because we don't have enough officers." )

Meanwhile: The number of recorded crimes resulting in a person being charged or summonsed in England and Wales has halved in the past five years to just 7.8 per cent according to the latest Home Office statistics

And violent crime is on the rise, with offences involving knives rising from 41,000 to more than 44,000 in the 12 months to June 2019.

Great priorities there UK Police! I'm really pleased that you are prioritising non-crime so that nobody will be offended by a tweet.

I think Harry Miller's case is really interesting because he decided to challenge, rather than submit There is a growing backlash against cancel culture, denunciations and persecuting people for wrong think. In another Mail article, Trevor Phillips gives a robust defence of Alastair Stewart, whom he has known for years. He refutes accusations of racism as absurd and says Stewart was a staunch ally against the NF when they were at university. Meanwhile, in the Telegraph, another opinion piece takes aim at the corrosive culture of identity politics whose proponents demand submission and compliance:

Over the years, we have seen the rise of what Americans call “woke capitalism”, where private companies are infected by the madness that started taking hold in university campuses some time ago. Typically, there will be a zealous Human Resources department that decides to become a cultural police force..... And if you hate identity politics, best keep quiet. You risk being painted as a bigot and, in the era of moral panic, to be accused is to be guilty

Cracking article. Though I disagree that the content of the limeric is clearly offensive, or that 'offensive' actually matters. It's factually accurate. Transwomen who have had gender reassignment surgery do have breasts made of silicone. Their "vagina" is a surgically created space that does indeed go nowhere, and has to be prevented from healing itself - their own body recognises it as a wound that needs to close.

Being offended by facts does not mean facts are wrong.

midgebabe · 01/02/2020 10:19

I read the article, in particular the examples of what he had said.

In the past, people were regarded as being hateful because they would be propagating untruths about someone. Like some group have bird brains or are criminals

Now it seems telling the truth is hateful

Languishingfemale · 01/02/2020 10:18

Is this true that there are 900 police officers dealing with hate crime? Seriously?

Mockers2020Vision · 01/02/2020 10:18

Oh Dear

I think these gentlemen are not being kind

(Warning: Pottymouth Alert)

AnyOldSpartabix · 01/02/2020 10:15

It’s a very good article: good summarisation of several threads.

The suspense is getting to me...

This with bells on. I worry that the delay has some negative significance.

JellySlice · 01/02/2020 10:09

It is unkind to lie to people.

We worry about people whose sense of self and self-esteem is tied up with, entirely dependent upon, how many 'likes' or 'follows' they get. We know it's unhealthy, we know it's unsustainable. So why are we being forced to lie to people whose entire sense of self is dependent upon other people's behaviour?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 01/02/2020 10:08

Clever article. It knows it’s readers. Comparing low clear-up rates of burglary and violent crime to zealous pursuit of those-what-tell-the-truth will hit home.

Binterested · 01/02/2020 10:01

Yes I do always wonder why nobody feels the need to be kind to me.

Seems like my ego is just supposed to get on with life as best it can whereas other egos need very careful looking after and protecting by the rest of us. We used to have names for the bodies in which those two sorts of egos typically reside but I’ve forgotten what they were.

Melioration · 01/02/2020 09:53

It was first going to be out early January or even before Christmas. I read early February in a recent Harry the owl article.
I thought it might have slipped out yesterday with all the brexit stuff going on. I don’t think it is going to be buried though.

Excellent, informative article.

boatyardblues · 01/02/2020 09:49

This intergenerational kindness bollocks, spearheaded by the silly student on GMB this week.

It’s bollocks too. Older women are more likely to have had children and be living with the consequences of birth injuries or adverse experiences of giving birth (eg PTSD). How can women campaign for better maternity care and treatment for birth injuries if they can’t discuss their biological reality and experiences? Is that not intergenerational unkindness by young people with limited experiences? Should these women suffer in silence and further generations of women suffer similar injuries to spare other people’s feelings? What about their needs?

ScapaFlo · 01/02/2020 09:47

Me too bananamush! I thought it would be delivered before Christmas.

langclegflavoredbananamush · 01/02/2020 09:43

When I saw the thread title, I had a chilling moment where I thought the judgment had come out and it was bad...
The suspense is getting to me...

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 01/02/2020 09:41

He wasn’t intending to be kind
This! What is this obsession with kindness?

As a 46 year old woman, I might be hurt that my fertile days are coming to an end, so if somebody talks about the menopause in factual, biological terms, should I be offended because that isn't 'kind', should I demand that nobody mentions the menopause, or ask people to pretend that it doesn't exist or that nobody talks about pregancy?

It's ridiculous is what it is. This intergenerational kindness bollocks, spearheaded by the silly student on GMB this week.

calllaaalllaaammma · 01/02/2020 09:35

900 hate crime officers just at Scotland Yard? I wonder how many there are across the whole uk?
So you could work for years as a police officer and not arrest one person that’s crazy.

SarahTancredi · 01/02/2020 09:12

Thanks. I didnt know that.

Binterested · 01/02/2020 09:09

He wasn’t intending to be kind to trans people. He was intending to use clear and ordinary speech to draw attention to the truth behind this ideology.

I didn’t get the police memo that said I always had to be kind and to forget about the truthful bit.

This is where we are being let down so much. Where is the Humanist Society and Amesty - surely their job is to uphold people’s rights not to be believers and to tell the truth? I know the answer by the way Angry
