That is the stark reality Michelle. So unequal.

Barracker · 31/01/2020 17:56

As Michelleoftheresistance said.

"I get to label you, even inaccurately"
"You do not get to label me, even accurately"

Who holds the power? The namer.

You can only bend reality for a small window though. The spell breaks. Even those that submissively adopt the false naming protocol start to mentally substitute cis for biological/real/actual. It can't be helped.

Because that is how our brains organise language.

If I tell you from today an apple is called a trans-orange, part of the same category as a cis-orange and you try to conform, within a short time your brain will treat a trans-orange as an entirely different category from a cis orange and you will cease to believe they belong in the same category anyway.
The naming magic wears off before long, because our brains still can see that they are fundamentally different, despite contriving a false linguistic similarity.

See:
apple /pineapple
bird/ladybird
dog/hotdog

before too long, reality takes over, the obvious dissimilarities reassert themselves, and the naming-spell is broken.

They keep changing what cis means and it’s ridiculous their followers can’t see that.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 31/01/2020 17:50

Well said Michelleoftheresistance, although I hope you don't say it only once!

Michelleoftheresistance · 31/01/2020 17:38

Line it all up:

YOU must use whatever words I decree, no matter how much it involves you jumping through linguistic hoops, mental labour and lying.
I will use whatever words I like.

YOU will never label me in any way I dislike, even if it's actual fact, because it's offensive and hurtful and literal violence to impose labels on others against their personal identity.
I will label you anyway I like, if you find it offensive it's because you're an evil bigot, and you being offended and hurt doesn't matter.

I will be coming into your single sex space, EVEN THOUGH it means you're unable to use that space any more, because it would be scary and hurtful and embarrassing and dangerous for me to be in a space with males.
YOU can shut up about being scared and hurt and embarrassed and in danger because you're being stupid and should get over it.

I can threaten to rape you, murder you, put pictures of me with axes on Twitter, wrap barbed wire around baseball bats to threaten you and that's just hyperbole and activism.
YOU should be arrested and have a criminal record for stating the fact of my biological sex.

I'm just at the point of fuck the fuck off with this abusive bullshit, it's ridiculous.

Mockers2020Vision · 31/01/2020 17:31

The paradox of Self-ID

People have the right to define themselved. Except when they don't.

It's also not very POMO, in that its all about the hegemonic control of language by a self-appointed elite who decide what the words all mean.

English has no Academie like the Frenchies. A word means what people agree it means when they exchange it.

Michelleoftheresistance · 31/01/2020 17:30

If you want someone to respect and use the pronouns and labels you want them to use for you, you need to equally respect and use the labels the other person chooses for themselves.

That's called a social contract.

Otherwise it's just taking the piss.

NotTerfNorCis · 31/01/2020 17:26

Witty post by Sam there. Hope the TRA saw it.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 31/01/2020 17:19

The poster on Twitter is a moron - no one is cis. They have to make up stupid terms to validate themselves.

Charley50 · 31/01/2020 17:01

It's a load of fucking shit, absolute bollocks and shouldn't be given the time of fucking day. FUCK. Sorry.

Thelnebriati · 31/01/2020 16:58

I refuse to accept that label being imposed on me, its just not how I identify.

Durgasarrow · 31/01/2020 16:34

I had a debate with a friend of mine. She insisted that she was open-minded on the issue of gender until I told her I was not a cis woman. She said of course I was. I said no. I am a woman, I belong to the female sex. I do not identify with femininity, the gender form of the word woman. She said that's not how it works. If you aren't a trans woman, you're cis. I said, how do you know how I identify? How do you know what's in my head? She said, "Believe me, being cis is the least of my troubles." I said, "What's that got to do with me?" She was infuriated with me and I was infuriated with her. Still love her, though.. But this drives me crazy.
