Just seen this linked on FB. Tracy, one of the founders of Safe Schools Alliance discussing SSA’s work and the legal action they’re supporting regarding the Trans Toolkit for Schools in Oxfordshire. Very interesting and worth a watch.

I chose the first time I saw anyone’s willy (we weren’t the type of family who strutted around naked - I don’t even think I say my dad in PJs). It was ‘interesting’!

ThinEndoftheWedge · 06/02/2020 08:45

my cousins boys have been really effected.came home asking why some mums have been saying they will hurt the girls.the younger boys just dont understand.all he keeps hearing is safegaurding and abuse.and asked his mum what raped in the toilets was

I am soo angry for your cousin’s boys and for my nephews about this. If the narrative is forced upon them that single sex facilities are important for safety - particularly for girls - this is the obvious and highly predictable outcome.

The bastards don’t give a shit about boys or girls.

All children lose...

  • have gone back to my old username. Feels like and old pair of slippers!

Get digging everyone! The 13 year old in Oxfordshire girl needs our support.

Datun · 31/01/2020 16:42

Excellent interview.

Tracy Shaw comes across as an intelligent, articulate woman whose only concern is safeguarding children.

Her credibility is indisputable.

Such an important case. With implications not just countrywide, but possibly worldwide.

2fallsagain · 31/01/2020 15:56

Thanks everyone, we are so pleased we struck the right balance with this and you all enjoyed it. Posie was a great interviewer. Let’s hope it gives people the tools and the confidence to speak to their schools and start pushing back. Occ case is really important! (Also gone back to my very old username, slightly amended)

andyoldlabour · 31/01/2020 15:40

That latest video is brilliant. Every parent should be able to see it.

JollyYellaHumberElla · 31/01/2020 14:59

Sorry, its Tracy Shaw (apol's for misspelling your name above Tracy!).

JollyYellaHumberElla · 31/01/2020 14:57

This is a really really good interview. Tracey from SSA talks very clearly and with lots of warmth about how important safeguarding for ALL children. No exceptions, no hierarchy of entitlement to safety and no arguments. They are doing fantastic work.

There's lots of really practical information and help on their website too.

There is a judicial review in the offing with Oxfordshire and I will be finding a trowel to do what I can in support. This woeful overriding of safeguarding in schools needs to be help up to the public and properly scrutinised.

Goosefoot · 31/01/2020 13:30

It's actually a risk for boys as well, IMO. A situation like that where everyone is embarrassed is ripe for a misunderstanding. And especially younger teen boys can sometimes be stupid in their comments, or allow themselves to be egged on, their decision making skills are not yet up to adult level. They don't see how things will be taken by someone else or how they might escalate. I remember as a girl at that age saying things that were really not appropriate, and sometimes hurtful.

It's asking for some kind of incident, be it a sexual assault, bullying, or whatever, and not just involving bad kids who will be bad adults. All you need are kids who are immature.

BlurtingOutTheInsideVoice · 31/01/2020 13:16

Just listened to this. Excellent video. Full of common sense.

Floisme · 31/01/2020 11:40

I agree boys have a right to privacy and dignity too. My son would have been mortified.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 31/01/2020 11:37

@Hands

Head hits table...

Mossyrock · 31/01/2020 11:35

ThinEndoftheWedge I totally agree. This is terrible for girls but bad for boys too. Blurring boundaries like this makes the teaching of consent more difficult. And boys are just as entitled to privacy and dignity.

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 31/01/2020 11:22

Yes most tween and teen boys would be equally as appalled to be expected to get changed in front of biological females as the girls would want to avoid the reverse.

And I doubt that a trans child would really want to be put into an environment where their obvious difference and the fact that biologically they are NOT the sex they identify with is highlighted. It's hardly going to increase acceptance.

So the wants and needs of the vast majority are thrown under the bus for the political agenda of adults with dubious motives.

Dragtime storytime

What the fuck? I take it that because it rhymes it must be ok??!!

@Mossyrock

Dads who complain are taken more seriously than mums. It's sexist, but kids need their dads to step up and ensure their safety at school

I sort of agree but my husband says that he has the advantage of knowing what he was like at 15!

I really think all this is really crap for boys as well as for girls. I think of my nephews - they would hate all this mixing of the sexes in changing rooms/toilets, plus because there is a particular safeguarding issue for girls, we discuss what boys could do - we have the stats about abuse in school- even though most boys wouldn’t. This whole narrative isn’t good for them either.

TheShoesa · 31/01/2020 11:01

This prompted me to look at our secondary's policies.

The equality policy lists Gender instead of Gender Reassignment, but does at least have Sex correctly on the list. Is it something worth pointing out do you think? Is this the first creep towards Gender Identity being listed as a protected characteristic?

Langbannedforsafeguardingkids · 31/01/2020 10:39

I'm really lucky with my daughter's primary school in that they DEFINITELY have not swallowed all this anti-girl propoganda guidance

But I'm raising it with my MP because I'm pretty sure the secondary school might not be the same.

It's hilarious really - they have guidance which basically says 'you are whatever you feel inside even if that's not the same as reality' and 'everyone MUST listen to your inner feelings' then when they're told by parents and girls that what they feel inside is like the sex they are and they feel inside that they'll only be safe / have privacy or dignity if they have single sex spaces. Which is also their right in law.

And the CC pretty much go 'nah, not YOUR inner feelings cos you're female' (that's the level of professionalism they've show in terms of taking safeguarding concerns seriously).

So in order to get her inner feelings taken seriously a 13 year old girl has to take the CC to court?

How do they keep their jobs? Is it my council tax funding this shit?

OhHolyJesus · 31/01/2020 10:30

I'm not yet half way through and this is brilliant. Tracy is so clear and concise, I'll be sharing this and getting my husband to watch too.

As I've said before, if ever there was a time to write letters and ask difficult questions it's now.

Mossyrock · 31/01/2020 09:05

Tracy is incredible! Every parent should watch this.

If you only have six minutes the section from 24:00 - 30:00 is especially informative.

Oxfordshire county council answered none of SSA's safeguarding concerns when they pointed out that two of their own policies were in conflict.

Legal advice: "there is a smorgasbord of illegality" in the council's transgender policy.

There were no impact assessments.

Dads who complain are taken more seriously than mums. It's sexist, but kids need their dads to step up and ensure their safety at school.

Cuntysnark · 31/01/2020 08:21

That was excellent. Looking forward to saying hello tomorrow.
