So the manager of my local one told me today. She looked aghast when I said I didn’t agree with it then as I started explaining, she had to take a drive through order. We had been chatting about my eldest ds being gay and she obv thought I’d approve of this collaboration. Hah. . I’m thinking of writing down where I stand on it and passing it to her. I take my elderly mum in there every day for a coffee and pastry. Not any more. Sigh. I hate thats it’s made me ‘that’ person

And I (polishes halo) always had concerns about Kids Company.

I knew a couple of people who worked for them (lovely people but not very ‘street’ if you know what I mean - very well meaning and unbelieving caring) and our school used to donate to them.

The more I read the more concerned I got that it was more of a cult built around a probably well meaning but naive woman, who thought that throwing money willy nilly at a problem would fix it.

Oh no - I didn’t mean by C4 (heaven forbid). I miss Panorama and what was the other one?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2020 19:24

It’s channel 4! I’m sure the investigations will come (like Kids Company and they weren’t even remotely in the same league).

They will. Not by C4, but sooner or later.

Starbucks has partnered with Mermaids and have made one amazing advert in the process:

It really is amazing!!!
Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 14:58

more like - "we have a mermaid on the logo and look! we can make some mermaid cookies and the charity is called mermaid! what do they do again? Some charity or something... So cool, so on trend...'

SerendipityJane · 04/02/2020 14:49

Starbucks planning meeting ...So ya'll, let's do something really cool. Something to distract people from the, ahem, unfortunate tax thing. Let's find the wokest, most vilified lobby group and support it with woke cookies!

It's a shame that these sort of meetings never managed to hit upon the sure fire winner of improving their customer service. Too late for me, I'm afraid. But it might just stop others drifting away.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/02/2020 14:45

Well, if you really must - but make sure you have a suitable name they have to yell out (and make sure you are standing at the other end of the shop)

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 04/02/2020 14:42

I'm quite partial to a blonde roast flat white, and Starbucks is the only coffee option at my local train station but this has made me think twice. Fuckwits. It's pure virtue signaling. Plenty of other causes they could have supported ( not as many woke points tho)

Sillydoggy · 04/02/2020 13:41

Right that is me changing my weekly bag of coffee and no more hazelnut lattes, goodbye Starbucks.

Tootsweets23 · 04/02/2020 09:25

I am raging that Channel 4 is involved in this. Can't help wondering that the commissioning team had nothing to do with it and it was ad sales and corporate who thought it a jolly good idea. This from a broadcaster who did Oly Lambert's Trans Kids doc. They should be investigating mermaids not bloody fundraising for them.

Apparently glitter goes right through you (thankfully) and ends up polluting the ocean. Double thanks Starbucks.

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2020 20:19

With a sprinkling of glittery puberty blocker

Lordfrontpaw · 03/02/2020 18:56

Fish fingers mayve?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/02/2020 18:46

Yummy fish cookies with glittery sugar on!

Lordfrontpaw · 03/02/2020 18:40

Wouldn’t a mermaid taste fishy and a bit salty?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/02/2020 18:29

Things covered in glittery sugar taste of nothing but sugar, imo. Taste the disappointment! Which isn't a bad analogy for Mermaids, really.

Lordfrontpaw · 03/02/2020 18:24

Well I’ve just seen a photo of haddock chomping on a tail.

It looks cheap and nasty, also flakey, and odd shade of blue and glittery. Not very nice looking.

...And the biscuit looks unappetising too (boom! Boom! 🦊 )

Starbucks planning meeting.

So ya'll, let's do something really cool. Something to distract people from the, ahem, unfortunate tax thing. Let's find the wokest, most vilified lobby group and support it with woke cookies!

So which one shall we support..... let's see
Now who....
Supports and promotes a doctor who's not allowed to practice in the UK?
Trains teachers using offensive gender stereotypes?
Did the most serious GDPR data breach?
Who supports and promotes puberty blockers despite serious concerns there's no evidence they are safe?
Who's own website from 2009 gives the opposite advise to what they promote now?
Who's chief executive took their child abroad for genital surgery on the very day of their 16th birthday?

Why, that would be Mermaids.

YES THEM!!! LET'S SUPPORT THEM. AWESOME. GREAT JOB. WOKE COOKIES ALL AROUND.

What do you mean there's a 4000% rise in girls identifying as trans?? Who gives a shit eh?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 03/02/2020 14:02

The sit in cost is £2.59.

Really? I’d pay 13p, max. I identify my two 5ps as two pound coins and the other 3 pence I identify as 59 pence. No, it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever but when in Rome...

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/02/2020 13:34

They need to sell 200,000 to make their donation and I am sure there are that many trans allies and they will all sell out quickly.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/02/2020 13:33

I think a) not bothering with Starbucks again and b) an email to the CEO explaining why this is a safeguarding fail on their part is the way to go.

snowblight · 03/02/2020 12:47

I wonder if Glinner will condemn them... or maybe not after his Donkey Kong 'success'.
