Trans man on naked attraction

Not watched but has seen some tweets about this. India Willoughby being one, who questioned it.

Straight female on naked attraction and one of the options of the men she could choose to date was trans man with a vagina.

This is the (rubbish) programme, where you choose a person based on the look of their genitalia.

I know channel 4 has always been one to push boundaries but come on.

Ever seen this programme with the audio description switched on?

Adds another dimension Grin

MimiLaRue · 24/01/2020 07:55

I dont get the controversy here. I like dick. I'm going to choose someone with a dick.
Its really not that complicated. I'm not attracted to women's body parts.I dont have anything against women's body parts (I think theyre beautiful)- I have them! But I am not sexually attracted to them. Thats not something I can control or help.

I wouldnt expect a gay man to be aroused by a woman's body parts so why would a heterosexual female?

Chocowoka · 24/01/2020 07:51

Had she said she was heterosexual, then it would be be very unfair and misleading. Judging by her comments however, she was absolutely open and didn’t see it as an issue so all is good.

Lastly, what a shit TV show!

Cwenthryth · 24/01/2020 07:42

Fair point 5z, that there’s a difference between immutable qualities of someone’s body (physical disability, skin colour) and components of someone’s belief (religious belief, belief in gender etc) however ‘being trans’ blurs that line surely, if we’re specifically talking about physical bodies and assuming ‘trans’ in this context means ‘has undergone surgery/medical treatment to alter their secondary sex characteristics in some way to mimic the opposite sex’. A contestant(?) might say the do/don’t find that attractive in a different way to the do/don’t think they’d be compatible with someone who holds a religious belief.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2020 07:41

If it shows all different things, why no hairy fannies?

Because none of the women who want to appear happen to have one?

7thlevelofthecandycaneforest · 24/01/2020 07:41

I saw another one with a Lauren Harries and they didn’t mention she was trans at all. She was actually quite aggressive that she wasn’t picked.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2020 07:40

I assume that the application process includes a check list of types you are happy to consider.

ferrier · 24/01/2020 07:39

it shows that all people are different and like different things.

If it shows all different things, why no hairy fannies?

5zeds · 24/01/2020 07:36

Some people might say no disabled people, or not interested in trans etc. are you equating disability and being trans”? I’d have thought “Some people might say no Jewish/Muslim/Catholic people, or not interested in trans etc.“ Would be a better example, those things being a choice.

Lovemusic33 · 24/01/2020 07:33

I didn’t watch it (I don’t stay up late enough) but have watched the programme several times before. It obviously gets the viewers or it would have been gone a long time ago. It doesn’t bother me, nakedness doesn’t bother me, some of the comments are a bit off the wall but the people going in there no what to expect. Maybe the woman on their said she would happily date a trans person? Or maybe not.

I have a trans friend, we met through a dating app and at first I did not know he’s was actually a she. I don’t think I would date a trans person but I do have trans friends.

The show has covered all sorts of things including 3 person relationships, gay relationships and older people. I think it’s good that they don’t just have young, straight, skinny people on their, it shows that all people are different and like different things.

Cwenthryth · 24/01/2020 07:33

Lol, no, guess the whole point of this show is they don’t hide anything!

I can understand the objections - if someone went on as a lesbian (as in, the traditional sense, enjoys sex with vaginas, not penii), and was presented with a transwoman complete with working penis - like happened on some other dating show recently I believe - there would be more uproar. But, like I said, this kind of show isn’t for ‘us’, it’s clearly far from feminist, leave it for those who do believe in all this crap.

NonnyMouse1337 · 24/01/2020 07:28

I don't know what the recent episodes are like, but the first series or two was quite enjoyable because it showed a wide range of bodies.. curvy women and men, skinny ones, tattooed and pierced ones, women with scars from c-sections, people with prosthetic limbs and so on.

We see very little authentic nakedness in our lives. It's all celebrities with buff, toned bodies and no scars or blemishes. Or everything has been airbrushed or enhanced in some way.

I have a lot of issues with my body and self image, so it was nice to see such a wide range of naked bodies... and observe my reaction / attraction to them. Everyone has appealing and not so appealing parts of their appearance. And it's interesting seeing people naked and then with their clothes on. Does it match with your assumptions about their personality? Some people are physically very attractive but then on the one-on-one date come across as very boring or overbearing and don't seem that attractive any more.

I find people fascinating when looking at their underlying motivations and behaviour.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2020 07:27

What is the problem exactly - it's not like they hid it.

GaraMedouar · 24/01/2020 07:21

But surely if you're picking a,man to date and you can only see 2 penises and 1 non penis - you would get rid of the non penis person because that's not a penis and you'd think the producers had got it wrong.

ILoveAScotchEggMe · 24/01/2020 07:16

No gonads being displayed the last time I looked.

It is a weird programme though. It is the ultimate way to objectify people. The only way to make it worse in that respect is for the picker to pick without seeing the faces I suppose but........just awful.

NonnyMouse1337 · 24/01/2020 07:15

Really - who watches that stuff?

I watch it now and again. Grin

It's car crash TV, hence the appeal. It's all about superficiality and how self obsessed some people can be. I find it amusing to see people come up with vague excuses for why they won't date someone they aren't attracted to.

slipperywhensparticus · 24/01/2020 07:13

Fell asleep on the sofa watching tv when I woke up it was on I watched it in horror then realised I was STILL watching it after 20 minutes i messaged my other insomniac friends to join in the horror

I'm curious what was her reaction on the show

Cwenthryth · 24/01/2020 07:05

being...judgmental? about gonads ? and choosing people based on the appearance of their gonads?
I really hope they’re not judging on the appearance of ovaries, looking at people’s’ ovaries is a whole other type of show! (I knew what you meant and this is intended to be jovial not mocking).

It is car crash tv isn’t it, surely, purely designed for people to watch because it is awful, to cause ‘controversy’ (yawn). Surely not many people watch it seriously.

KaptainKaveman · 24/01/2020 06:49

So...don't be judgmental about the show predicated on 'contestants' being...judgmental? about gonads ? and choosing people based on the appearance of their gonads?

The entire show exists as a piece of superficial judgmentalism. It's ludicrous to get annoyed at people pointing this out and judging the contestants - it's what we are supposed to do . Duh.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/01/2020 06:47

That show is hideous

I saw about 5 minutes once - it held the attraction of a really serious traffic accident - I couldn't believe the horror unfolding before my eyes . . .

. . . and there wasn't a single hairy fanny there - (though to be fair, the bloke on it had all of his bits waxed, too). It was, quite honestly, repulsive to watch.

I turned off. (In every sense) Really - who watches that stuff?

That show is hideous.

Cwenthryth · 24/01/2020 06:27

‘Sex doesn’t equal sexuality’.... well yes, sex and sexuality are different things clearly.... however the clue is in the title of what sexuality is Xmas Smile
Anyway, she seems happy so that’s all fine. It’s not like a program based entirely on judging people’s bodies is going to be a bastion of feminist principles anyway - we’re clearly not the intended audience. Leave it for those that believe in this stuff. Personally I mainly like C4 for their house reno programs anyway.
