@JustineMumsnet

We the undersigned would like to ask you to consider reinstating LangCleg after a temporary suspension, as you have done with others.

Or perhaps, consider reinstating her for a three-month trial period and then reviewing.

We know you will have realised, from the two other LangCleg threads, how much her wisdom and constant voice in support of robust safeguarding is welcomed by so many on this board. It is truly a great loss to us, and to the depth of discussion about such important matters.

We hope Justine that you might do two things:

  • Review what actually happened with LangCleg and decide whether it really was so dire that she deserves permanent expulsion, or whether perhaps there was an element of misunderstanding on your moderators' part (which Michaeel's post indicates may have happened) and, that perhaps she was being held to an inappropriately high standard compared to others
  • Review the process, so that strong voices on here are able to continue to be heard for the benefit of all Mumsnet users

Or perhaps do neither of those things, and just reinstate her because you recognise how important your other Mumsnet users find her.... I guess the equivalent of a Royal Pardon,

Please hear our voice.

And everyone on here, please do sign if you want LangCleg back - just that, a signature with any discussion continuing on the LangCleg 2 thread. A signature to say you want her back and hope that @JustineMumsnet will consider this.

Thank you - both my fellow mums netters and Justine

I am really hoping that after a time of suspension, Lang might be allowed back. For me as an unplanned single mom, her safeguarding stuff is invaluable.

I’m confused at how there is “2 sides” to child safeguarding. It’s like a banning a pro-vax poster, because a site wants to be fairer to anti-vaxxers. How can children’s safety come second on a parenting site?

An idea - I have before (very politely!) emailed mods to clarify a deletion, and maybe we should stop doing this? Looking back I realised it was unwelcome, and perhaps the exchange was upsetting for them (as it was for me). Perhaps less interaction with us would make their job easier, and reduce valued (parenting advice giving) members being banned?

(Oops sorry OP, wrong place to ask, on my phone or I would copy and paste this.. apologies)

I truly do understand how difficult it is to moderate a forum like this but this is such a bad call. Loss of trust in Mumsnet admins and the org itself will have a greater impact than anything Lang could ever say or do. Posters like her keep your boards active, relevant and interesting whether or not admin/mods agree with what she says. Cut out the interesting people for convenience and you lose the spark (and value) that maintains public interest in what is now unfortunately a very old-fashioned form of digital comms/networking. Quality posters make all the difference. If you’re a forum, you’re only ever as good as the quality of the content generated by posters. Making decisions based on wanting a quieter mod life are understandable, but are short-sighted. That’s my tuppence. I might be considered to have spoken out of turn but so be it. I used to read obsessively (not just this board) but current mood is such that if you don’t like it and do kick me off, I won’t really be too bothered. Take from that what you will.

(Others have already covered the Lang being deserving stuff!)

Please reconsider.
