And we've done some work on defining and summarising the issues.
What's the best thing to do next?

Count me in.

I'd also like a sticky link at the top board which outlines our concerns and lists our questions.

The banning of Lang has chilled me. The deletion/vanishing of posts has chilled me. I want to do more. We all need to ramp up our efforts.

NotAtMyAgeStandsWithLangCleg · 22/01/2020 18:16

Placemarking. I'm in too.

totalnamechanger · 22/01/2020 18:16

I’ve written to mine. Seeing him this week

Ten years ago, the idea that a Conservative govt would allow the bizarre linguistic dictates of a niche lobby to dominate and invalidate the results of an official census? Laughable. Yet here we are

It is time to write to our MPs making sure they know and seeking answers. Making sure they can’t say ‘we didn’t know’ when this is finally recognised for being the safeguarding scandal that it is

BovaryX · 22/01/2020 12:20

There is another thread about the census. It is worth having a look. The bottom line? Write to your MP. This is supposed to be a majority Conservative govt. If they have been colonised by the lobby? It's imperative to write and clearly state the serious safe guarding issues and the threat to freedom of speech. They are interlinked. Silence is compliance in this environment.

Mner2000 · 22/01/2020 10:57

I emailed my old MP several times. I am fairly sure she was closet GC but we have a new MP who I haven't contacted. I have emailed him this morning. He has made racist comments in the past and is fairly close to Boris Johnson - god only knows what his views will be on this.

Does anyone have a link to the Scottish consultation and I will fill it in.

Does being half Scottish get me extra points? Grin Probably not...

CharlieParley · 22/01/2020 09:27

Yes, FannyCann, non-Scots can fill it in.

It's open to submission from everywhere in the world and in the analysis, you'll be included under UK numbers.

dementedma · 22/01/2020 08:38

Please count me in. Happy to help.

Ereshkigal · 22/01/2020 08:33

Can non Scots fill it in?

I'm pretty sure you can. You could the last one.

ChattyLion · 22/01/2020 08:20

What Genetic said we have a new crop of MPs to inform urgently. At some point the government has to respond to the GRA consultation of 2018. They can’t avoid it forever. Time is now to let MPs know what you think.

FannyCann · 22/01/2020 07:39

@CharlieParley Can non Scots fill it in? Since it will affect us all we deserve a say.
Otherwise I suppose I can always put the in-laws postcode. Or DD's. She was furious when I filled in the first one on her behalf using her email so I'd better be careful Grin...

GeneticTest · 21/01/2020 23:37

I work for an MP.

VERY FEW people get in touch about this.

BE REASONABLE
Be clear
Be specific
Make it personal
Ask specific questions
Do not be fobbed off

Ask for your question to be referred to the minister / shadow minister.

GeneticTest · 21/01/2020 23:35

You can count me in too.

averylongtimeago · 21/01/2020 22:47

This sounds like a good idea-

Mner2000 · 21/01/2020 22:44

Here to be counted as one of the 200+ and ready to do more

RicketyClickety · 21/01/2020 22:34

Depends what you have in mind. A good starting point is picking a key topic and identifying key decision makers and influencers on that issue.

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/01/2020 22:14

Thanks Charlie, I thought I'd filled it in before.

CharlieParley · 21/01/2020 22:13

We are working on guidance to fill this in, but I reckon your average lurker on FWR could manage to fill in the most important bits with very brief answers.

CharlieParley · 21/01/2020 22:11

This is the follow up.

The first consultation, where 40% opposed self-id succeeded in that the Scottish Government decided to have a public consultation on the actual draft of the law. They were originally just going to put it before parliament.

This is now the consultation on the text and content of the new, reformed GRA as proposed - the actual law in question.

As written, it's piss poor, to be brutally honest and thoroughly offensive to other protected groups, but it's pathetically easy to refute their claims.
