Haven't seen another thread about this. Happening right now in Glasgow.

#lbgalliancescotland on twitter

(you don't need to have an account to read the posts).

Kate Harris is outlining the @AllianceLGB’s plans for 2020 - challenging regressive gender stereotypes, lobbying in support of LGB rights, and pushing for EHRC & legal investigation into Stonewall. #LGBAllianceScotland

Great speakers. And what a brilliant backdrop:

I'm glad there is a new group to support LGB people, the lurch to the right in both the UK and US is a worrying time for many people. That said, I've searched their website and have struggled to locate much information let alone action with regards to addressing important issues like the reasons for a rise in reported hate crime in the UK, the plight of gays and lesbians in Russia and in particular Chechyna and numerous other issues worldwide. Being a bit geeky I would like to see them clarify their position with regards to supporting gay and bi-sexual transsexuals who are broadly supportive of the T?

GivesNoFox · 22/01/2020 14:56

For all the "boycotting" they do I do actually wonder how much money these TRA's initially have spent the the target of these boycotts? Because the impression I get is that a good chunk of these whingers going on and on about "Not feeling safe!" in said places had:

A) Never gone to these places to begin with, therefore the threat of 'loss of custom' is bollocks to begin with.
B) Had no future plans of attending thezse places/ didn't know of its existence until someone announced its act of "transphobia" on social media and
C) Don't have the consistent funds/ are financially independent for them to make a these targets take a blow to their profits.

Seems more like same old virtue signalling to me, smaller version of how they tried to "boycott" JK Rowling and HP related stuff, they don't realise that they are a tiny drop in the ocean when it comes to £££ power.😄

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 22/01/2020 13:21

I think "denied basic rights" there can be read as "denied the right to do whatever I want all the time".

NonnyMouse1337 · 22/01/2020 11:12

One person wrote: “As a trans person I don’t think I’d feel welcome in Oran Mor again. The expression of views that I’m subhuman and should be denied basic rights isn’t compatible with a safe and inclusive venue.”

LOL a touch melodramatic. What basic rights are trans people being denied?

Which other group gets to change their birth certificates based on a feeling? Which other group gets politicians and organisations bending over backwards to change laws and policies based on twitter outrage?

I find this desperation from Robertson et al really interesting. It seems very disproportionate.

Robertson says that Yaniv is just one of those 'female predators', so I wouldn't expect a rational response from Fiona...

ThePurported · 22/01/2020 10:56

On Twitter some unhinged individuals are making a list of all the 'dangerous' people who support the LGB Alliance. Martina Navratilova tweeted:
"Pretty sure I am on that list already.
Your threat is hereby acknowledged. And please don’t forget to put the names of transgender men and women who disagree with you on that list too."

Great news! Solidarity with LGB Alliance Scotland!

RuffleCrow · 22/01/2020 06:44

Wonderful. This has cheered me up. Well done to Nicole Jones particularly as she must be finding things tough right now . Flowers

Can't wait to join.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/01/2020 09:14

I find this desperation from Robertson et al really interesting. It seems very disproportionate. You don't see politicians getting like that about other protected groups

SunsetBeetch · 18/01/2020 22:39

The woke stasis are in the case:

"Hey @OranMorGlasgow, do you know @AllianceLGB are a transphobic hate group who want to deprive trans people of their rights?

As long as you’re happy to take transphobes’ money, you’ve lost this customer 💰

No queer rights without trans rights!

#GWithTheT #BoycottTERFs t.co/A5C5OpKbao "

twitter.com/blairanderson35/status/1218581665095782400?s=19

"Please RT! Let’s make people embarrassed to associate with transphobes x "

Fiona Robertson from the SNP!

"Despite attempting to look like a legitimate organisation (tactic used by a no. of these groups which are just twitter accounts with logos & crowdfunders but try to pass themselves sas expert orgs), the 'LGB Alliance' is not actually registered at the address they've supplied. "

NYnachos · 18/01/2020 19:48

I so wanted to be there today - but it looks like it's been a great day Smile

Creepster · 18/01/2020 19:48

Councils need another reminder to check that their policy based on their copy of the protected characteristics list from the EA2010 actually matches the law as written.
All the fraudulent copies that were circulated may not have been replaced by all the councils that received them.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 18/01/2020 19:39

Looks great

RicketyClickety · 18/01/2020 18:59

Sounds like a brilliant meeting.

Kilbranan · 18/01/2020 18:55

Are there any videos of this? - have seen the short clips on twitter but would like to hear more of what was said

YourOpinionIsNoted · 18/01/2020 18:53

Fantastic!!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 18/01/2020 18:52

Graham Linehan is asking for everyone to follow LGB Alliance on Twitter. Something about them being targeted and reported. I'm not really sure what he's on about but I'm happily following them anyway. They seem like decent people who who speak sense.

TirisfalPumpkin · 18/01/2020 18:49

Such high hopes for the LGB Alliance. I’m looking forward to hearing if they have plans for Pride season.

Lovely way to remember Magdalen too.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 18/01/2020 18:23

A minute's applause in memory of Magdalen Berns

That's lovely.

Well done, all, looks amazing.

stumbledin · 18/01/2020 18:19

They also took out this full page ad in national papers today.
pbs.twimg.com/media/EOeF_fkW4AE7BbJ?format=jpg&name=900x900

Which is good and seems a good use of donation money.

Just a shame that it happened the day after the forwomen.scot meeting which was obviously really important and moving. Though doubt many papers would report on it.

But they are working together!

pombear · 18/01/2020 18:06

Well those council workers will have to be careful as they may have to filter the 'right' women's groups who get to have a booking, given that Engender Scotland has also been having an event today too:

twitter.com/EngenderScot/status/1218577465947324417

Thank you to all live tweeters of the LGB Alliance event today, it was great to read-along. Nicole, Magdalen's partner, and Sinead, familiar detransitioner from Twitter in particular, but everyone for their strong and clear messages.

Engender had the (Scottish gov) funds for an artist to draw their 2020 intentions.

LGB Alliance had the voices in the room to describe their 2020 intentions.

OP posts:
ScapaFlo · 18/01/2020 17:55

WHAATTT! That's a bit sinister

ThePurported · 18/01/2020 17:54

This caught my eye:

forwomen.scot @ ForwomenScot
#LGBAllianceScotland Council workers being warned to watch out for room bookings by groups for a 'women-only' event. Gasps from room.

ScapaFlo · 18/01/2020 17:11

A minute's applause! That is more powerful than a minute's silence. Bet hairs were standing up on back of necks. Wish I'd been there.
