FFS! Why did a she have to do this? It’s so divisive and gratuitously mean!

Nope. I am not hunting on Twitter, I don't do Twitter. You have made accusations which you have failed to substantiate. You have provided zero evidence to support your claim that PP is doing real harm to women. When you make an accusation which you can't support with evidence? I draw my own conclusions

snowblight · 18/01/2020 12:22

When you make accusations, the onus is on you to substantiate them

Strange that seeing as any story that is anti-trans is immediately accepted as gospel on this forum. Hmm More double standards.

SapphosRock · 18/01/2020 12:16

Bovary I'm not sharing the screen shots because what she said is vile and doesn't need further publicity. Look on Twitter - plenty of 'citations' of her claiming that trans men should be sterilised. And if you're of the opinion that trans men are female then that is pretty harmful to women.

BovaryX · 18/01/2020 12:08

Sapphos
Can you provide a citation for those quotes? A link so that we can all see the context. Can you also provide evidence for your statement that PP is doing real harm to women? When you make accusations, the onus is on you to substantiate them

SapphosRock · 18/01/2020 12:02

How on earth can stating certain groups of people should not be allowed to have children be considered 'debate?' It's not freedom of speech it's simple hate speech.

The first two statements would never be tolerated on here so I don't know why the third one would. Posie stated the third one and presumably still stands by it.

'Gay people shouldn't be able to have children'

'Disabled people shouldn't be able to have children'

'Trans people shouldn't be able to have children'

BovaryX · 18/01/2020 11:42

Harry the Owl was accused of hate speech. Who defines hate speech? Who should define hate speech?

An excellent question. There is an existential threat to freedom of speech being wielded by totalitarian zealots who think #no debate is a convenient way to silence dissent. These people do not believe in the Enlightenment values which used to define Western democracies. They use control words to shut people down. They are authoritarians and they are hampering public discourse and debate

Needmoresleep · 18/01/2020 11:30

Harry the Owl was accused of hate speech.

Who defines hate speech? Who should define hate speech?

Looking forward to the upcoming court case. Hopefully we will have a clear answer. Which may send a message to those posters who have popped up here to criticise some pretty amazing women.

It would be interesting to know whether these posters achieve the same levels of perfection themselves. And whether they apply the same standards when appraising men.

If not, there is a name for it. Misogyny.

I didn't ask why she was banned - I commented that it was interesting (and perhaps unfair) that everyone can give their opinion here, including journalists, academics and activists under their own names, yet PP is the only one involved who is unable to

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 18/01/2020 10:54

I know what she was banned for - I know very well as it was on the same thread I got a suspension for myself

snowblight · 18/01/2020 10:53

mnhq never comment publicly on why someone was banned.

I seem to remember them doing before in this case.

snowblight · 18/01/2020 10:45

What's interesting for me here, is all these people commenting under their own names, yet only one person involved is unable to do so.

I'm sure the mods will be delighted to explain once again why she was banned.

DickKerrLadies · 18/01/2020 10:45

(More than just harassment, that sentence was heavily butchered in an attempt to be undeletable!)

DickKerrLadies · 18/01/2020 10:43

TBH, I'm not that interested in twitter bickering between women who all have strong opinions.

Compared to the sort of abuse they and us receive both on and offline from TRAs - including physical violence, I think they're able to handle it.

As many people have said better than me before, this isn't about transpeople - it's about safeguarding and free speech and I'm sure others could mention more. Women are allowed to agree on some things and disagree on others and they can get pissed off with each other as well.

Why are we, as feminists, expected to behave impeccably whilst prominent TRAs are celebrated for harrassment which goes far beyond a few mean words on twitter?

Floisme · 18/01/2020 10:40

Confessions I have no idea about Julie and don't want to speculate. However I had a similar experience (not with Julie) in a group many years ago when I was 19. It stayed with me for a long time so I can relate. Flowers Be yourself.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 18/01/2020 10:24

Though I doubt PP would come back if her ban was rescinded now.

snowblight · 18/01/2020 10:00

Julie, great to see your apology, will you also take this moment to admit that last time Posie was in the US, you lied about her having a profile pic with Tommy Robinson? Would be a perfect time to explain why on Earth you did that!

Hi Venice, Seeing as you're taking the moral high ground, can you explain why (in a conversation with Posie by the way) you accused a prominent GC feminist of lying about her cancer?

NightLion · 18/01/2020 09:11

That's a shame @Confessions. First impressions last a long time. Don't let it put you off though, not everone is unfriendly. And don't be intimidated either: you have a voice and it is as valuable and equal as any other.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 18/01/2020 08:19

*To clarify, the relatively young feminist bit is stated because I was hopeful she would see my greenness and be friendly and welcoming into the fold. That was not the case.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 18/01/2020 08:18

I met Julie at a Woman's Place event last year and found her very unfriendly. She gave a great speech about supporting women and then when I approached her afterwards to chat was extremely brusque and unfriendly, which was disappointing, since I'm a (relatively) young feminist. I suspect it's because I didn't have the right "look".

Imagine if every person who was friends with Weinstein or Epstein was automatically thought bad for women everywhere, a disgraced discredit.

Errrm bad example considering Prince Andrew is considered exactly that - a disgraced discredit. And he has denied everything, Posie hasn't.
