FFS! Why did a she have to do this? It’s so divisive and gratuitously mean!

Women who think they're men should besterilised’

This comment has been attributed to Posie and everytime taken massively out of context.

Personally, I view it through the lens of "if men want to be women why do they hang on to their cock and balls" ie. the actual biology that distinguishes them from women

So why don't transmen get rid of the thing that defines them biologically ?

Posie is an equal rights trans denier. I agree with her on this.

LangCleg · 17/01/2020 13:13

Hey Louise! How you diddlin'?

LangCleg · 17/01/2020 13:12

That quillette article was really interesting. The description of the post-left struck me particularly though, I can't decide if I think it's wrong or not. It seemed almost the farthest from leftism of the three descriptions.

Goose - whether one likes it or not, I think we are seeing a reorganisation of political thought here in the UK and post liberalism is a part of it. The old alliances are falling apart and there is a vacuum where new ones are yet to form. I don't see the Woke as genuinely left wing at all, for instance. If it's not based on materialism, it's not leftist. But if none of the self-identified leftist political parties have materialist policy platforms, where am I to go? I'm not a right winger. We'll see where this all goes - I've no idea where. But it's wise to pay attention because it's the fastest growing political allegiance in the UK, so far as I can see. Boris, detest him though I do, appears to have sussed this, while Labour remains oblivious. By observation, I'd put Posie in the centrist post liberal section of that article.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 13:09

Dr. Louise Moody,
I agree it would be unfortunate if this overshadowed the NY event, but hopefully it will blow over.... great to see you here.

RoyalCorgi · 17/01/2020 13:07

Social media is so exasperating. Julie is free to think that Posie is a liability or that she's right wing or that she's stupid or whatever it is. Just don't say it publicly, ffs. What possible good can it do?

I have my disagreements with Posie, but I still think those Woman = adult human female posters were a stroke of genius.

DrLouiseJMoody · 17/01/2020 13:01

Hi Bovary!

Me? Just trying not to go insane with all this in-fighting (don't want to derail the thread too much). I just hope Posie's event goes well without it being overshadowed by this insanity.

Cookieflavoredbiscuit · 17/01/2020 12:55

Eyes on the prize wims; eyes on the prize.

This kinds of kerfluffle makes me so glad I'm not anywhere near any limelight- I guess there's few of us who haven't done or said something worse than Julie's comment and gotten away with it because the only ones who noticed were those close to us, and know us well enough to forgive us (or not).

Julie's comment about Posie not being a feminist goes right to why Posie stopped calling herself that. Actions speak louder than labels anyway. But I think Posie is more of a.... why don't we have a word for this.... person who is concerned with protecting children....there really should be a word for that.... Anyway, to me she seems to be more focused on protecting kids than women, and for that I say all the more fucking power to her.

And so glad we have Julie, too, she's been so brilliant and tireless for so long. And entitled to her opinion.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 12:49

Dr Louise Moody
It is lovely to see you on this thread! How are you doing? Hope you are doing well

GrinitchSpinach · 17/01/2020 12:49

Tirisfal, sorry I typed in haste; I was agreeing with you! Just wanted to clarify McBride’s role for accuracy.

I am not really interested in Team Anyone either. Each woman has done and continues to do important, complementary work. My main objection is to the TIMING of this rant. Just like last year, when American women organize and try to get heard in the press—this one literally on the eve of WoLF’s event—the story has become all about Posie and her merits or flaws, drowning out the actual news of the New York Public Library canceling the “Cancelled Women” and anything the rest of the speakers might be addressing. Tiresome.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 12:48

The central issue is freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is facing an existential threat from lobbyists who want to criminalise dissent and silence debate. They use control words to do this. The Harry Miller case is an example of how powerful this lobby has become. The totalitarian advance in the 21st century West is a sinister trend

DrLouiseJMoody · 17/01/2020 12:46

Sappho,

I have been told very, very different by numerous people, r.e. Jean's blog post (which, oddly enough, was posted the moment Posie and friends got on a plane). I see no reason to give it significant weight. But independently of that, JB's tweets were straightforward bullying from someone with a large platform and have the potential to cause reputational damage. Disagreement is fine. Calling someone a "thick feck" who no-one can stand is absolutely not. Keep those kinds of comments for your private conversations. Or better yet, try not saying them at all.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 17/01/2020 12:44

Julie is well known for being a bit of a stroppy mare at times. I think she's amazing btw, that's not an insult. She owns her stroppiness.

I don't think she's right here though.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 17/01/2020 12:42

The tommy Robinson thing was along the lines of "having seen attacks against myself that were twisted and way out of proportion, I wonder how much truth there is to what people say about TR". Not "omg, I ❤️ TR, he is an awesome human being". Ffs.

I'm sure bunbury has something to say about women who spend half of their time online correcting rumours about cancelled women, but I'm gonna do it anyway 🙄 For the lurkers.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 12:41

Sapphos

It is guilt by association. Look it up. Your post defines it.

SapphosRock · 17/01/2020 12:38

Bovary it's not guilt by association. Posie isn't some passive bystander, she is actively participating in the vile behaviour.

Needmoresleep · 17/01/2020 12:36

Julie is getting some "interesting" support.

Perhaps a good lesson in not judging people by their allies. I suspect Julie and Snowblight dont have large areas of common ground.

Go Team Women, go!

Goosefoot · 17/01/2020 12:36

Julie comes across as a bit of a bossy Head Girl.

Yes, pretty much.

LangCleg

That quillette article was really interesting. The description of the post-left struck me particularly though, I can't decide if I think it's wrong or not. It seemed almost the farthest from leftism of the three descriptions.

BovaryX · 17/01/2020 12:34

She's really not helping women at all given the above

Sapphos

You repeatedly use the guilt by association logical fallacy to attack PP. You want to lecture the denizens of this board about why good feminists need to sing the hymns from your approved song sheet? Nope. Not going to happen. You know why PP attracts so much finger wagging hostility? She has successfully highlighted the ongoing Orwellian attack against freedom of speech. Those who want to control what women say are enraged by her refusal to sit down and shut up. Tough luck.

LoafEater · 17/01/2020 12:29

I admire both of them, but Julie comes across as a bit of a bossy Head Girl. This nonsense just gives ammo to the TRAs.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/01/2020 12:29

Posie is absolutely a casual middle class racist. No doubt about it.

CodenameVillanelle · 17/01/2020 12:27

Did anyone watch the video?
I can't bear posie as a person (had direct dealings with her) but she's often absolutely on the money. I watched the first half of the video and she was spot on but the way she said 'mona el whatever her name is' was cringe inducing and this was swiftly followed by some incorrect grandstanding about how nobody cares about white victims of Asian grooming gangs because they are white girls. I had to switch off.
Let's not forget that Julie B was one of the first journalists to uncover the CSE scandal in the north east.

snowblight · 17/01/2020 12:25

She also seemed to tweet about Muslims a lot and couldn't see why people had issues with Tommy Robinson.

Joisanofthedales · 17/01/2020 12:25

I agree about being team neither but those tweets were toxic and totally undeserved by Posie. I admire all those women who put their heads above the parapet but for me, Posie and Caro are the ones I admire the most.
I don't agree with a lot of what they say and sometimes I cringe if I'm honest, but I think both Posie and Caro are awesome women who don't deserve the opprobrium often heaped on them, sometimes sadly by those who should be fighting shoulder to shoulder with them.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/01/2020 12:24

Yep, Tirisfal, the idea that anyone has to take sides is quite illustrative. It's a conversation, it's not a tug of war, it's not a battle. Lots of valid voices to be heard.

Both of these women are people I've often disagreed with, sometimes very strongly although not publicly because I'm not that brave. I'm glad for both of their voices, even when they aren't a consensus. And I'm grateful for all the work they've done, all the flak they've taken and continue to take.

SapphosRock · 17/01/2020 12:21

I think too many women excuse Posie Parker's behaviour as they agree with her on a single issue. If you look deeper into what she's actually done it's very murky.

She was banned from Women’s Place UK for being racist and Islamophobic

Link: womansplaceuk.org/changes-to-cornwall-meeting/

She’s aligned herself with white supremacy, Men's Rights Activism and hatred of women by appearing in that video with Jean Francois Gariepy.

She’s paired with organisations that are anti abortion, far right Christian fundamentalist and pro Trump. See blog from Jean Hatchet:

jeanhatchet.blogspot.com/2019/01/why-i-wont-be-standing-for-women.html?m=1

She admitted on her own website she’d been accused of supporting eugenics and forced sterilisation as she tweeted:

’Women who think they're men should be sterilised’

It's not really surprising that Julie Bindel (and most feminists) are not her biggest fans. She's really not helping women at all given the above.
