FFS! Why did a she have to do this? It’s so divisive and gratuitously mean!

So true. Don’t go on your phone when drunk and alone

Datun · 21/01/2020 10:22

After 17 pages the question posed by the OP is answered.

So true.

...getting an arse on after a few bevies and typing insults into the Twatter is not eloquently proving much!

Job done.

Needmoresleep · 21/01/2020 10:18

Great post!

After 17 pages the question posed by the OP is answered.

LangCleg · 21/01/2020 09:32

It's entirely possible to have common ground with a person, yet also think they're a 'thick feck' as Julie so eloquently proved.

Julie "proved" this in eloquent fashion... by typing it into Twitter?

Christ on a bike. I like Julie. A lot. But getting an arse on after a few bevies and typing insults into the Twatter is not eloquently proving much! Especially when you don't even get the name of the person you think you're sticking up for right. You make yourself look a bit of a tit!

(Sorry Julie!)

DuMondeB · 21/01/2020 04:16

‘Gender dysphoria’ is classified as a mental disorder in the DSM 5

‘Gender incongruence’ (the replacement term for what was previously known as ‘transsexualism’) is classified as a “Condition related to sexual health” in the ICD-11 (along with a heap of paraphilias - see screenshot).

ICD is used for billing codes for medical insurance in the USA, so completely removing gendersomethingorother is presumably not desirable because it will mean no obligation to provide cross sex hormones or surgery?

In the UK gender clinics (NHS and private) are currently staffed by psychologists/psychiatrists who make a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria. I suppose a US style ‘informed consent’ system would do away with the need for a diagnosis via a psych professional? I can’t see the NHS moving towards this though, especially not with all the weirdness going on with a massive rise in referrals, particularly from young female people and the risk of future lawsuits.

A ‘you can’t sue us’ get out clause is surely incompatible with a national health programme?

I thought dysphoria was classed as a 'condition' rather than a 'problem'

So a condition is not a problem? I know most about dysphoria from what detransitioners tell us about it and it sounds awfully like a mental health problem to me.

I think TRAs must associate mental health problems with madness and that is why they lobbied to have it renamed a condition.

Creepster · 20/01/2020 21:57

Transgender is not a protected characteristic in law. It is unethical to repeat this untruth.

Staffori · 20/01/2020 21:53

@SapphosRock

"Don't worry there's been plenty of posts on this thread excusing, minimising and denying Posie said trans men should be sterilised."

Well I did none of those things so there was really no need to say all that but thanks for caring.

"And of course she retracted it (after repeating it multiple times on various different social media platforms) which makes it okay..."

I don't think she repeated it multiple times on various different social media platforms but, in any event, she retracted it after thinking it through, which does make it OK, AFAIC. People should be allowed to change their minds, IMO, and not have their intemperate remarks held against them for the rest of their lives.

"What makes you agree with this?"

Well, firstly, because I believe it is unethical to pretend to be something you are not and, secondly, because those who do so - including every trans 'man' I've ever seen, tend to normalise harmful and regressive gender stereotypes that we should be working to abolish. I don't see how a woman who claims to be a man can be a good example to a child.

"And how on earth can you justify it seeing as being transgender is a protected characteristic along with religion, disability, sexuality etc?"

See above. I justify my opinion according to ethical principles - I don't have to justify it legally.

Butterisbest · 20/01/2020 21:23

If you think calling someone thick as feck Or a thick feck is eloquent, I'm not sure you know what eloquent means.

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 20:33

Julie deleted the tweets and apologised on this very thread?

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 20:07

Sapphos, in that case you also have common ground with posie.

You keep going on about what posie said in one twitter argument, the context of which has been explained to you at length on this thread and others - yet, you show no anger towards the ideology and institutions who are actually sterilising transmen.

SapphosRock · 20/01/2020 19:32

Thanks Horse apology accepted.

Zebra catch me on another thread about trans women in sport or strengthening the EA exemptions - I'm sure we have plenty of common ground.

Not everyone who speaks out against TRAs (ie PP) should be hero worshiped without question. It's surely not surprising that a lot of feminists don't like or agree with her.

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2020 19:22

A high proportion of trans women have had mental health problems

?

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2020 19:19

SapphosRock, what kind of problem is "gender dysphoria" then?

Or are you saying it isn't a problem? which would be news for the people who suffer from it.

Second this question you didn't answer Sappho. If it isn't a mental health problem, what kind of health problem is it?

The NHS aren't the be all and end all of knowledge, you know. Especially as they have been so comprehensively ideologically captured.

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2020 19:13

Your "anti-FWR" posts here tell me you're more of an "L with the T" type person, than a "Get the L out" type person.

Yep.

Goosefoot · 20/01/2020 19:10

Oh you mean the thread where I was called selfish for having kids in a lesbian relationship?

No one called you selfish. Saying that a particular method of conception centres the adults involved rather and ignores important rights of children - rights defined by the UN as it happens - is not equivalent to someone calling you, as an individual, a selfish person.

This kind of personalisation of controversial social discourse is a real problem.

HorseWithNoGreyRockinghorse · 20/01/2020 19:07

Lol a bit rich Horse considering the amount of times I was badgered to share that thread! And the amount of times you claimed I was lying about it.

You were asked by me and others to show who called you selfish and even the "hooves" poster (who i have an affinity with, sure) didn't go that far. Plus, you not only invent words that were never used about you but you also have a penchant for exaggeration - I suggested that you were telling "porkies" just the once and only once. For that I apologise. Let's agree that you did not actually lie about selfishgate but simply made an honest mistake.

Gish!

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 19:00

and Posie Parker is no more representative of GC feminists than the MRAs she likes to make videos with!

She sure got under your skin though, so she's doing something right Grin

*But you didn't bother screenshotting those, did you?

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 18:19

Plus, if you get to the end of that (rather strange) thread- it had some extremely strange posts on it - you see a fair few actual FWR regulars agreeing with you and supporting you, and calling out hearhooves's posts.

theflushedzebra · 20/01/2020 18:01

Lol a bit rich Horse considering the amount of times I was badgered to share that thread! And the amount of times you claimed I was lying about it.

Ha, nobody called you selfish, and the person's posts you screenshot is er, hearhoovesthinkzebras, who is no more representative of FWR than the MRAs that come on here to argue with feminists.

SapphosRock · 20/01/2020 17:57

Needmoresleep I think fundamentally were coming from the same place. I don't think either of us would have a problem with the adoption arrangement in the video I shared of Alex.

An AGP MTF late transitioner with mental health issues would be entirely different.

Of course the child should be centered.

I know that Posie says the same thing about centering children but when in the same breath she also says trans men should be sterilised it makes me question her agenda.
