No - from over the water?

midcenturylegs · 11/01/2020 09:24

Lord I think I also know who has been involved in the writing given the main character's name. Poor kid.

HermioneWeasley · 11/01/2020 09:24

Bloody mothers wondering whether compelling children to lie about their father’s transition is in their best interests

littlbrowndog · 11/01/2020 09:22

They do that’s how they sell their books

So I can’t see a huge market for it

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 09:21

Yes - the do ‘book parties’ don’t they and rely on (usually) mums going around schools and playgroups with their dreadfully twee books.

DeeZastris · 11/01/2020 09:17

Correct me the if I’m wrong but doesn’t Usbourne rely on mums selling to other mums?

littlbrowndog · 11/01/2020 09:15

I don’t understand who’s this book is aimed at

And who would buy it

NotBadConsidering - I know someone who worked on those books (they do have a bit of a life around here ‘that’s not my beer/fart’ etc). I may need to copy that...

ahenderson270 · 11/01/2020 09:14

If Izzys mum was transitioning would you be so cross? Just asking for clarity.

Literally never heard of anything to do with this book until now.

Just a shitty marketing campaign isn't it?

Funnily enough, I've never heard of or met an Usbourne seller that wasn't a mum selling to other mums to try and make a tiny, pitiful bit of money whilst not working.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 09:05

Sadly (in most cases) book publishing is on the skids - and it’s a bit ‘Guardian reader’ (I know a few people who have worked there). Most kids have books bought for them and the buyers will spend carefully and consider the business they give their money to.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/01/2020 09:02

How stupidly short sighted of them.

Who buys your books Usbourne? Change that to bought.

Abite · 11/01/2020 09:01

I wont be buying any books from them again.

Sigh.

LizzieSiddal · 11/01/2020 08:59

Sorry, misread the post, they haven’t used that term. I need coffee.

GoldenKelpie · 11/01/2020 08:59

Oh dear, alienating your target audience isn't clever, is it? /still, it's all good as it means more reasons to avoid this 'woke' MLM.

BadgertheBodger · 11/01/2020 08:59

Stand up for what’s right as well Izzy, Make sure you call out that transphobic behaviour when you see it! It’s definitely your job, as the child in the situation, to manage everyone else so your dad doesn’t get his feelz hurt.

Wonder what Izzy’s mum thinks about it all.

LizzieSiddal · 11/01/2020 08:57

Do they to be informed that Terf was deemed a misogynistic slur by a judge?

BadgertheBodger · 11/01/2020 08:57

I’d love to see the receipts for the “transphobic trolls”. I loathe that these sorts of books are there to further cement the idea that girls should have no boundaries whatsoever.

littlecabbage · 11/01/2020 08:56

The author, Sarah Hagger-Holt, works for Stonewall. Tells me all I need to know.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 11/01/2020 08:56

Thanks for the heads up. I love noisy crow books at the moment.
