Layla Moran: Potential Lib Dem leadership candidate becomes first MP to come out as pansexual

Quote: Ms Moran, 37, told PinkNews that she had not previously had same-sex relationships and was “surprised” to find herself attracted to a woman, but added: “Sometimes, when you meet the right person, it just kind of happens.”

She said she was more comfortable with the label “pansexual” than “bisexual” or “gay” because it referred to the idea of love for an individual person for who they are and not their gender or sexual identity.

FannyCann · 03/01/2020 05:54

Ew. Possible meanings offered by google are even worse. Confused

Lol I thought flacking was a reference to Caroline!!

Is it not? I thought how witty of AutumnCrow
So "flacking" is an actual thing unrelated to the person of similar name? Perhaps her behaviour can be excused by nominative determinism. Grin

NotBadConsidering · 03/01/2020 05:32

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/11/this-mp-has-summed-up-everything-wrong-with-the-transgender-debate/

Sadly, Ms Moran did not say anything about those women who are not fortunate enough to share her special gift. Perhaps she’ll get to this the next time MPs debate this issue.

Grin just a reminder of the excellent James Kirkup’s article on this person. I don’t think we should confine our wonderment on how certain people get elected to just Boris. This is person who studied physics at university, yet believes in gendered souls Confused.

Why do we care about what kind of people someone is attracted to in that kind of detail? I could say I'm straight or that I like emotionally distant manly men, there might be some use in knowing the first half, maybe, but does anyone really want to know the second?

Isn't pansexual just bisexual + ego?

JustASmallTownCurl · 03/01/2020 03:44

The level of detail! It's not far off: After a bottle or two of wine we... ya know... wink wink. Needless to say I enjoyed it as it had been a while... ooh what am I like.

I'm bisexual and to be honest I'm sick of people on one hand saying sexuality is a fundamental part of who they are and should be respected (agree and agree) but then cheaply weaponising it to look woke / faux earnest / get press.

I don't really want Boris to tell us about any of his conquests would take a while for a start and to be honest it comes across as an attempt at a land grab. I suspect the parties will all soon be selecting a "Woke Minister".

theflushedzebra · 03/01/2020 03:33

BitofFun - couldn't possibly be.

hipsterfun · 03/01/2020 03:29

Moran is saying she was told the relationship would damage her career, and it's because they are both women OOH PREJUDICE. The Lib Dems honestly couldn't give a shit about that.

You’d need to do a bit better than an email-faking girlfriend for the Libs Dems to give a shit - they set the giving-a-shit bar very high indeed.

BitOfFun · 03/01/2020 03:29

Heavier than the weight of oppression on us pansexuals? Huh? Thought not!

theflushedzebra · 03/01/2020 03:06

Le Creuset is all well and good until I nearly break my wrist on it, lifting it off the hob or out of the oven. Man, it's heavy Grin

BitOfFun · 03/01/2020 02:55

I love a bit of Le Creuset, tbf.

AriadneAufNaxos · 03/01/2020 02:53

From a Daily Mail link on this subject posted on the Labour leader thread.

One meaning of pansexual is Tories to remain in power for 20 years.

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/01/2020 02:44

Lol I thought flacking was a reference to Caroline!!

I hope the libdems steer well clear. Too much baggage with the ex and the current partner leaving her job. Nothing to do with her sexuality which would be better explained as bi imho

AriadneAufNaxos · 03/01/2020 02:42

Thanks Glen. I will google it.

Glenthebattleostrich · 03/01/2020 02:39

Slapping her then boyfriend @AriadneAufNaxos

AriadneAufNaxos · 03/01/2020 02:37

Thank you.

The wonders of autocucumber- replace a straightforward word with a word which doesn't exist and capitalise it to boot !

I'm beginning to think there really is a secret order of programmers behind it.

AutumnCrow · 03/01/2020 02:26

Flacking = slapping

AriadneAufNaxos · 03/01/2020 02:25

Second, it's made journalists look her up and they've been reminded of the story of her Flacking her boyfriend in 2013

Flacking? I can't work out what word autocucumber has substituted.

theflushedzebra · 03/01/2020 02:17

Wow, I'd never heard about that faked email - possibly because I'd dismissed the LibDems as a party to vote for long ago - but wow.

Layla Moran - pansexual -fine. i guess we're all a little bit pansexual huh? Let's just do away with biological sex and make everything about gender identity huh? Everything else is bigoted. Hmm

AutumnCrow · 03/01/2020 02:13

Moran is trying to play a crafty two-hander here - distract from her girlfriend's bizarre track record, and appeal to the younger Lib Dems' insatiable appetite for gender identity immersion.

But she's not that good.

First, it's made me question what role SHE had in Cobb-gate. I wouldn't have thought of pondering that previously.

Second, it's made journalists look her up and they've been reminded of the story of her Flacking her boyfriend in 2013. She's now trying to spin this as being 'More Honest Than Boris', and 'being human', but it's not going to play well out there with the younger crowd for whom she came up with the pansexual label.

Barracker · 03/01/2020 01:46

AutumnCrow
Wow. The story about Rosy Cobb and the faked email is astonishing.
I had completely missed it at the time. It amounts to attempted fraud, and was delivered to OpenDemocracy via the LibDem lawyers.
No wonder Layla Moran's new pangenderual partner was suspended. It doesn't say much for Moran's judgement for her to be singing the praises of a relationship with someone who brought the party into such disrepute a mere month ago.

AutumnCrow · 03/01/2020 01:10

The girlfriend is the ex-head of Lib Dem press who faked an email. Then left her job.

Moran is saying she was told the relationship would damage her career, and it's because they are both women OOH PREJUDICE. The Lib Dems honestly couldn't give a shit about that. I rather imagine the reality is that Moran was told her leadership chances might be damaged by defending a person who faked an email and had to leave her job.

boatyardblues · 03/01/2020 01:08

I had to look pansexual up earlier this week and explain it to my husband, as someone we know has declared themself to be pansexual. DH said “isn’t that just bisexual?” I had to refer him back to the definition, which was an any sex or gender catch all. 🤷‍♂️ I’m still puzzling over why this person needed to tell us boring old married farts. It’s not like we are in their potential dating pool, so no ‘need to know’, and we’re not bothered who they want to love, date or have sex with. That’s a private matter for them, as far as I’m concerned.
