Reuben adds: “I found it frustrating that people didn’t just ask my gender or not use it. I look like a man, have a beard.

Maybe the “giving birth” part rendered it pointless?

If beard = man then sorry Reuben but I beat you to it.
I had a baby nearly 10 years ago and I could grow a pretty thick beard if I wanted (all natural too - good genes I guess).

Good point. It’s embarrassing when people who are trans can’t even get it right. If having a beard makes you obviously a man then you’re right, it’s transphobic because of all the transwomen that do have beards and are still one hundred percent actual women. It shows how flawed it all is when they can’t even get it right themselves but expect others too.

DickKerrLadies · 30/12/2019 13:02

I look like a man, have a beard.

How transphobic! Have they not heard the memo that some women have beards as well as a penis? Literal erasure.

QuantumEntanglement · 30/12/2019 12:32

You can, of course, describe it any way you want, but it’s still a biological female giving birth after being impregnated with sperm from a biological male just like haricot pulses simmered in a delicately seasoned tomato jus served over Artisan bread browned and crisped to optimal golden crunchiness is still beans on toast.

Aaarrgghhh · 30/12/2019 12:11

On the positive side, at least we now have a definition of man. Man = human with beard!

I won’t lie, among all the anger that I have because of all this crap this actually upsets me. As in it makes me feel sad above everything else. I have PCOS, I have a lot of facial hair and sometimes I can’t be bothered tweezing so I brave it and go about my day. I’ve been feeling good about not always tweezing before I leave the house. I don’t have enough to resemble a beard but there’s enough there to be noticeable. How many idiots are going to think I want to be a man now because of stupidness like this? I have a condition that makes me hairy, I’m still a woman and because I may have a moustache and somewhat of a beard does not mean I am not a female. Genuinely upsetting because I feel I’m going to have to keep up with the plucking because I don’t want to be seen as a man when I’m simply a woman that has a condition.

If I saw them out and about and I would just assume they were a lesbian couple. (With a cute a baby)

Elementalillusions · 30/12/2019 10:32

I don’t think pregnancy is the ultimate female experience, therefore it didn’t challenge me as a man.

I have no words.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 30/12/2019 10:19

But seriously, this is a lesbian couple in old money, right?

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 30/12/2019 10:13

The 39-year-old transitioned to a man 12 years ago.

Wasn't successful was it!! They reverted to female type. Maybe dad should sue the doctor presiding over the transition!

TheABC · 30/12/2019 10:02

So...bearded human sexed-female appropriates the title "father" in pursuit of gender fluidity.

It's going to be interesting to hear how they live as a man, dealing with leaky boobs, afterbirth and a crying infant. I suspect by week 12 they will be too tired to give a damn. Babies are like a hand grenade in that respect.

FredaFrogspawn · 30/12/2019 09:23

The Mirror knows exactly what it’s doing here. The twitter response to the article is just what it is chasing and the report does no favours whatsoever to the message of trans ideology.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/12/2019 08:18

In the end it came back to biology, with one sex producing sperm and one eggs to create another human being whose sex was observed at birth.

So the circle continues, as it has for millions of years.

If Man=Human With Beard I suppose my menopausal stubble makes me non-binary

Oh, def

JamesKettle: If Man=Human With Beard I suppose my menopausal stubble makes me non-binary? Confused

ChattyLion · 30/12/2019 02:17

NameGame Grin
I meant I’m happy for them both, (well, happy for them all three) as a new family.
I’m finding it tricky from a SPAG pov.

If I didn't shave, tweeze wax etc, I'd probably have a bit of a beard by now (and a moustache and a mono brow for sure). And I'm not exactly old yet. That doesn't make me (or this woman) a bloke though.

If she wants to present in a stereotypically male manner (beard etc), more power to her, and she's as likely to be a fantastic parent as anyone else, but that doesn't change biology or genetics. A dna test, with the tester having no idea who's samples they're looking at, would conclude she was the childs mother?

I know it's not black and white, and I know it can't be easy. I think more valid research is needed, into why people think they're really the opposite sex.

If science can prove pink/blue brain theory (that a person can be born the wrong sex or in the wrong body), I'll be first to recant and apologise for my ignorance. Until then, I'm not buying into the current ideology. A pp was spot on with the emperor's new clothes comment.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 30/12/2019 01:24

The title of this thread gave me a headache so I’m not even going to read the story.

This will bug me internally forever.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/12/2019 01:20

I know the Guardian is a lost cause..

But The Metro has been actively pushing this agenda for yonks now and really is in a crass, I mean class, of its own. What is going on with them? (And when I say 'them' I mean the Metro, not a person more commonly known as 'she' or 'her' ).

xJodiex · 30/12/2019 01:15

@june2007 it's not a joke although it would appear like one. It's more another attempt to normalise this insanity, I think.

xJodiex · 30/12/2019 01:14

Poor baby.

TheNameGames · 30/12/2019 01:06

I’m happy for them and wish them the best. I agree that this isn’t news and it wasn’t particularly well written as an article either. I found some of the quotes hard to follow.

The quotes did make the article difficult to follow at times, I agree. And for example, are you happy for them or are you happy for them? Them as in the couple or them as in the non binary person?

Underneaththetree · 29/12/2019 23:19

And what frustrates me- if biological sex isn’t real then why did they need to seek a sperm donor? Why did creating a baby involve one ‘assigned male at birth’ to provide sperm and one ‘assigned female at birth’ to provide an egg and carry/gestate/give birth to the baby? Just a massive coincidence?

And why take testosterone to enhance your ‘male’ identity if being male is nothing to do with any kind of biology?

bettybattenburg · 29/12/2019 22:51

Trans-sympathetic DS says 'they are complete idiots' - think he's had enough of it all.
