EveryKingdomOfRain · 24/12/2019 19:38

Oh and should anyone on here be part of the electorate of Tennessee and wants to drop him a supportive e-mail, you are still not "pandering".

EveryKingdomOfRain · 24/12/2019 19:37

No idea.

Unless anyone posting here is part of the electorate of Tennessee and intends giving support, it is irrelevant what is said on here.

I doubt a British based parenting site with a known leftish/ liberal slant is on his list of focus groups.

PreseaCombatir · 24/12/2019 19:34

So, the women of Tennessee are pandering to the right wing by allowing this law to be passed. Got it.

EveWasShamed · 24/12/2019 19:32

It’s not clear to me either - I assume ‘pandering’ is in reference to the responses here and not the women in Tennessee?

EveryKingdomOfRain · 24/12/2019 19:31

Pandering to, accepting the authoritarian right on this issue and supporting this man means accepting the rest of his politics for the women of Tennessee, including no abortion, and splitting up families of illegal immigrant women who have bigger problems than sport, such as being deported and families torn apart

It really doesn't.

EveryKingdomOfRain · 24/12/2019 19:30

I can't imagine what "pandering to" in the context of proposed legislation means.

If you (general you) want to oppose this bill because it's not the right type of person who is proposing it I'm sure you will be able to join up with any number of (trans rights) groups lobbying against it.

If you want the bill to go through you don't have to do anything- the process will run its course.

If you feel strongly that the draft bill is the right thing to do you can write in support. It doesn't mean you (general) you are bound to the Republicans ever more.

PreseaCombatir · 24/12/2019 19:28

The left have really shown that they’re ‘the good guys’ haven’t they?
Lol hollow laugh

Themyscira · 24/12/2019 19:27

This wholesale acceptance of one man's politics happens where, exactly? He's proposed one bill with very clear perimeters, as far as I can tell. Not a suite of bills.

Floisme · 24/12/2019 19:27

You haven't been clear to me, no. But fair enough, maybe someone else can explain. Happy Christmas.

DetroitDaReindeer · 24/12/2019 19:25

Not really. I feel I've been clear enough. Happy Christmas.

Floisme · 24/12/2019 19:20

I do appreciate that but can I ask again, what does 'pandering to' mean in this context?

DetroitDaReindeer · 24/12/2019 19:14

Pandering to, accepting the authoritarian right on this issue and supporting this man means accepting the rest of his politics for the women of Tennessee, including no abortion, and splitting up families of illegal immigrant women who have bigger problems than sport, such as being deported and families torn apart.

This man is harmful to women. If we lose sight of this as feminists I fear for the actual real life consequences.

HorseWithNoHumbuggery · 24/12/2019 19:14

are Tennessee women seriously supposed to object to this law because they don't like the people proposing it?

Excellent question.

Floisme · 24/12/2019 19:02

I agree no side is looking out for women - I'm guessing we all feel like that on this thread. But what does 'giving them an inch' or alternatively 'having no truck' with them' actually mean?
For example, are Tennessee women seriously supposed to object to this law because they don't like the people proposing it?

DetroitDaReindeer · 24/12/2019 17:46

Not my thing, I'm afraid. Give these people an inch and they will take a mile. I've no truck with rabid women hating anti abortionists who happily make immigrants in their state live in fear. No thanks.

Themyscira · 24/12/2019 17:43

Nobody is our friend. That much is clear.

However, if we can at least retain our single sex provisions and accurate data collection, we at least have a fighting chance to fix other problems.

DetroitDaReindeer · 24/12/2019 17:26

Pro gun. Anti abortion. Rabidly anti immigrant. This guy is not our friend.

BickerinBrattle · 24/12/2019 17:12

yes, women are caught in a pincer move between right and left.

But what the right, so far, does NOT take away is the ability of women 1) to be accurately counted in data so that there is factual information about our status to organize around, and 2) the right to organize and assemble to change that revealed status free from the presence of males.

If this had been the case in the 60s and 70s, the Second Wave would never have gotten off the ground.

Fraggling · 24/12/2019 16:50

I get that but with the right in charge it's game over for women as well.

There is no side that cares for us at all.

It's scary.

BickerinBrattle · 24/12/2019 16:36

It will not be the left that halts , much less reverses, genderism in the US. It will be the right.

That is an indictment of the anti-materialist and misogynist state of left politics in the US, and not the fault of women OR the right.

Women didn’t ask for this existential attack on our rights. If the Equality Act is passed by the Senate and signed by whoever’s in the WH, American women in one fell swoop lose ALL rights to ANY female-only spaces, care, set-asides, sports, tracking in statistical data — everything except the right to vote. Women in the US don’t even have constitutional protection as equal citizens — our Equal Rights Amendment never passes, and there are plenty of jurists who argue that since the other Amendments guaranteeing equality never intended to include women, and specifically don’t mention women, women do not have equal protection under the law in the US.

If it’s the right that stops this massive civil rights stripping and the entrenching of women’s lesser status in law, so be it.

We are headed toward emergency, and it must be stopped.

HorseWithNoHumbuggery · 24/12/2019 16:18

No they looks like Swiss Amy Knife.

Yes, Amy.

skql · 24/12/2019 15:52

@sue51

actually in this matter, they looks like swiss watch.

Fraggling · 24/12/2019 15:36

'Eew, we can't agree with anyone on the right, they'll contaminate us and we need to stay pure above all else'

Literally no one has said this.

loveyouradvice · 24/12/2019 15:08

I'm just going to celebrate - I don't care who has done it - the girls and women of Tennessee are one step safer because of this.

And this is such a simple statement - it it leads to more states and other countries adopting something similar I will be cheering loudly

“We are seeing more and more transgender athletes competing and posting victories in traditionally gendered sports competitions, and doing so to the detriment of girls and women biologically born female,” Republican state Rep. Bruce Griffey, the bill’s lead sponsor, told the Tennessee Star. “Boys and men, due to testosterone levels, bigger bone structure, greater lung capacity, and larger heart size, have physical advantages in sports relative to girls and women.”
