Just stumbled upon this tweet (a teacher -supposedly- calling a female student a TERF just because she's uncomfortable with 'gender neutral' loos. It's now reached the point that this dogma is used to bully school kids , FFS.
I can't seem to get the link to work.

Every girl at that school who read that tweet knows what it means.

RealityNotEssentialism · 25/12/2019 06:34

justcly can you show me where? I am not trying to be dumb but the link that has been posted is to a thread has been started by someone called ChiefBrody on twitter. That person appears to be a GC man. He’s written a hypothetical ‘imagine your daughter coming home’ scenario in response to the school’s tweet. I don’t think this has actually happened or that ChiefBrody has a child at the school, (which is of course a good thing). They obviously have some dickhead running the twitter account though.

NightLion · 24/12/2019 22:20

The twitter pages of that school with all those happy smiley children under rainbows is cheesy AF.

So many references to kindness and other TRA fuzzy buzz words.

Stonewall propaganda.

justcly · 24/12/2019 21:50

@RealityNotEssentialism:

I think you have misinterpreted it. The tweet is not a hypothetical at all. It is clearly a mother complaining about her daughter being called a TERF by her teacher. The "imagine" bit is a plea to put yourself in her shoes.

RealityNotEssentialism · 24/12/2019 21:40

Actually I think that tweet was hypothetical- ‘imagine your daughter etc’. I don’t think a teacher is tweeting about a pupil and calling her a TERF, which is a relief. But the school needs to have a serious word with whoever is running the twitter account. It’s terrible.

Is there nowhere we are allowed to escape from them? Nowhere girls can tell BOYS to stay out?

Nope. And the ultimate end games of all this are incredibly disturbing . We've all seen where its going. we have all warned everyone where it's going. No ones listening. But we still have the receipts.

justcly · 24/12/2019 19:47

Why can't we have third spaces, for those who want them.

@KatvonHostileExtremist:

At the huge Head Office of my employer, we do have third spaces - Male, female and non-binary loos on every floor. The three transwomen and one non-binary employee all use the female facilities.

Tocopherol · 24/12/2019 18:46

Boys at my school would make fun of girls they suspected to be on their periods and steal sanpro out of our bags and throw them around. Plus the usual low level sexual abuse/harassment teenage boys think is fun.

A boy also raped a girl in a storage cupboard on 2 separate occasions and nothing was done because he said she came on to him and was a slut. She left the school.

Is there nowhere we are allowed to escape from them? Nowhere girls can tell BOYS to stay out?

testing987654321 · 24/12/2019 17:03

I have to say I love the way people here can explore ideas and explain their thoughts. It really helps to work through all the issues. I definitely consider my opinions carefully when people disagree.

VMisaMarshmallow · 24/12/2019 16:55

It’s not that boys are not subject to as much sexual violence as girls- because it’s not massively lower for boys (about 1in 3 for girls and 1in 5 or 6 for boys) but that girls don’t commit sexual violence in anywhere near the same rates. That’s the big difference something like 96-98% of all sexualised violence is committed by men, and mostly when girls/women are offenders it’s very specific patterns like mothers on children, so from risk assessment perspective the likelihood of a girl assaulting a boy in the toilets is next to nothing but it is highly likely that a boy would assault a girl.

SarahTancredi · 24/12/2019 16:49

I agree this will affect boys negatively too. They deserve their privacy and dignity aswell.

But boys are not missing thousands of hours of school a year due to period poverty or worry of period shaming.

Nor are boys subject to the same levels of sexual violence as girls are.

There are added layers to the impact gender neutral toilets have on girls that just do not apply to boys.

skql · 24/12/2019 16:45

@SarahTancredi

the scotish student expelled from school was boy...(saying there's two gender)
and i have heard story about boys protesting against gender neutral toilet.(but ending was bad i remember but still...)

i don't think it's just boy vs girl problem.

i'm pretty sure the school will make boys shut up for complaining about girls in boy's loo, too.

this topic is also matter to boys, girls, muslim ,hindu, christian, not religious but simply uncomfortable, sikh, asian, jews, white, orientals...

sorry i can't explain well...

VMisaMarshmallow · 24/12/2019 16:28

Thanks ine, from what that says though separate changing facilities say 11 and over, separate toilets 8 and over. If I’m miss reading can you point me to the changing bit please.

My kid only changes for pe in the classroom- so no showers etc and underwear still on. She’s a bit older but young for her age and I’ve been wondering if them all changing together in class was still the norm or not. Also this says guidance- does that mean it’s not 100% required? And does it apply to academies also? And/or any other type of school for that matter (as we will be looking at ‘free school’ and other possible options for secondary due to send issues, so would like to know for sure now.

Thanks for this, I appreciate it.

Coyoacan · 24/12/2019 16:15

testing, I am one of those people. I totally agree with you that this a need for all girls, but these so-called inclusive types always claim that they are against Islamophobia and accuse Posie Parker of being Islamophobic, but actions speak louder than words.

Thelnebriati · 24/12/2019 16:11

Children over the age of 8 have single sex changing rooms and toilets.

ISS Regulation 23A — (1) Subject to sub-paragraph (2), the standard in this paragraph is met if the proprietor ensures that—

b) separate toilet facilities for boys and girls aged 8 years or over are provided except where the toilet facility is provided in a room that can be secured from the inside and that is intended for use by one pupil at a time.

SarahTancredi · 24/12/2019 16:10

i don't think this should be oppression race
The sex of those more adversely affected is important. Gender neutral language and pretending everything is equal hides the real.impacts of what's going on.

VMisaMarshmallow · 24/12/2019 16:03

Ine - do you have a link to the law on that? I know my kids school have separate toilets still but they still change together in class rooms for pe at that age.

skql · 24/12/2019 15:41

i think pp shouldn't put too much focus on
'school favors boys than poor girls' line.

school favors 'some boys and girls' than other boys and girls.

i don't think this should be oppression race.

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 24/12/2019 15:22

I wish people would stop saying "what about the Muslim girls?", not that I don't care about Muslim girls but because ALL girls deserve privacy. It suggests that it doesn't matter as much for other girls.

I wasn't mentioning Muslim girls in a context of other girls not deserving privacy. I was pointing out that this school, and their ilk, are always falling over themselves to tell the world how inclusive they are, will use pictures of Muslims girls in their inclusive publicity, but actually don't really care about the needs of those girls, or indeed lots of other kids either.

Imnobody4 · 24/12/2019 15:17

Schools are supposed to uphold 'British Values' one of which is tolerance. The use of the word t**f in a tweet directly contradicts this.
I'm expecting a grovelling apology for all this soon.

SarahTancredi · 24/12/2019 14:38

Of course they do testing

But I think.it is useful to highlight that a muslim.girl would have the protected characteristic of religion and sex and race.
Which are ignored for a non protected characteristic of genfer identity.

Thelnebriati · 24/12/2019 14:36

What PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind said.

This school is breaking the law. Girls over the age of 8 are are legally entitled to single sex toilets and changing rooms.
The fact that a school is using hate speech should concern all of us.

RoyalCorgi · 24/12/2019 14:19

Lots of very political posts since the holidays began

Yes. I wonder if someone else has taken over the social media since the end of term - perhaps the head or the person who usually looks after it has gone on holiday? Who knows - perhaps they've even been hacked?

How do we know that the insulting tweet about TERFs referred to toilets? I couldn't see that anywhere in the tweet.

Themyscira · 24/12/2019 14:13

My head's a bit fuzzy this afternoon (Happy Christmas!!) but I do remember Stonewall offering free suite of trainings for primary schools meeting certain criteria - I wonder if they've rolled that out to secondary schools as well.

testing987654321 · 24/12/2019 14:11

I wish people would stop saying "what about the Muslim girls?", not that I don't care about Muslim girls but because ALL girls deserve privacy. It suggests that it doesn't matter as much for other girls.

If some students are happy to use unisex toilets then those facilities should be in addition to the single sex ones.
