Jolyon Maugham lets slip

In an attempt to show both sides of the GC / self-ID can be vile he takes offence at "Why is it so important to you that men are able to access our facilities? Is it personal?". Why? Because he says such a suggestion is equivalent to calling him a "pervert". So there you have it, agreement that men who want to be in female toilets tend to have a dubious sexual motivation.

That’s terrible. I saw it on twitter.

Why we he beat it to death and then boast about it on twitter.

Foxes doing what foxes do. Why didn’t he have secure hen house

And gawd boasting about it. What a dreadful man he is

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/12/2019 11:02

He's a psychopath - on what planet is that a normal response to the situation Shock

Glad to see he has been reported.

RoyalCorgi · 26/12/2019 10:59

JM is getting a lot of stick this morning on Twitter because he said he began the day by killing a fox with a baseball bat. Apparently the fox had become entangled in the netting that protects JM's henhouse.

Jolyon is a bit like Owen - he's found a niche upon which he can shower his store of sanctimony on those he regards as uppity peasant women.

The upside of this is that he has the world's worst political instincts (oh! also like Owen!) and so if he's taken it on as a crusade, it's almost certainly on its way out.

(That's my silver lining and I'm sticking to it!)

SadlyMissTaken · 24/12/2019 10:14

The friend may be Clair Quentin who gave evidence against Maya. They know each other.

EwwSprouts · 24/12/2019 10:10

An attack on his friend, and also an attack on him. Because a lot of lefty people put a lot of stock in their friend group and how correct they are, and define themselves through it. Similar to the academic circles and blue ticks who want to be on trend, but man on the street.

I do find it strange when a man is so invested in attacking women on Twitter using a particular issue in order to do it.

The first time I saw it was with Steve Brookstein and the Ched Evans case. He was so bizarrely invested in it and some of the things he was saying about Evans victim and women in general, I just couldn't believe it, especially as he seemed like such an unremarkable bloke.

Of course now with the trans issue, men can air their thoughts about women and look woke and progressive whilst doing it, so it's win win all round for them. Which is why you have people like Harrop, Jo Maugham, Aidan Comerford, Owen Jones who can voice their hatred of women, call them TERFS, loons, tell them what they are and aren't allowed to think, tell them what they can and can't be, all the textbook misogynistic stuff, safe in the knowledge that they can just claim that they are being 'kind and compassionate'.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 24/12/2019 09:19

Is "but what about the perverts and their feelings?" really where you want to go with this, Jolyon?

OldCrone · 24/12/2019 09:13

They have a nice trans friend, who isn't a predatory creep and just wants to live their life, so it's an attack on their friend. They can't see beyond that and therefore can't listen to what we're saying properly.

This is one of the things that was behind the need of TRAs to create the idea of huge numbers of 'trans' children. They are obviously not predators, and people will know them as the friends and classmates of their children, or even as their own children.

SunsetBeetch · 24/12/2019 08:53

Great points, Tocopherol and Binterested

Also I think that's why they turn a blind eye to the violent threats of TRAs or try to downplay or "both sides" it: their nice trans friend wouldn't do something like that, but it really hurts them if you don't think they are a woman.

Binterested · 24/12/2019 08:35

It would make you feel rage if you were told that the ideas you’d invested in because your loved one told you these were universal truths were being chipped away at by outsiders who happen to be able to think and communicate. It makes it worse that the outsiders aren’t even aggressive. They are not your normal enemy. What the hell do you do then?

When your foundations are being wobbled you can either examine your foundations for solidity or you can shout and scream and call the questioners extreme and aggressive and hope that people rally round to help you shore up your wobbly edifice.

Tocopherol · 24/12/2019 08:25

An attack on his friend, and also an attack on him. Because a lot of lefty people put a lot of stock in their friend group and how correct they are, and define themselves through it. Implying there is something 'wrong' about them makes them a bit crazy.

teawamutu · 24/12/2019 08:22

How old are his children?

SunsetBeetch · 24/12/2019 08:12

I see this quite a lot with men like Jolyon. They have a nice trans friend, who isn't a predatory creep and just wants to live their life, so it's an attack on their friend. They can't see beyond that and therefore can't listen to what we're saying properly.

NellieEllie · 23/12/2019 23:31

Thing is the “they’ll commit suicide” argument does not in any way provide a rational argument that TRA demands are right. Threats of suicide have long been used by eg men to prevent partners leaving especially in abusive relationships, but whether it’s deliberately manipulative or not is irrelevant. It’s just not an argument.

If my view is that TWA not W, the statement that - if you do not agree, a person may kill themselves - is not persuasive in relation to my belief of that fact. It MAY make me feel guilty and even PRETEND that I believe it, but that’s different.

What it amounts to, for me, is if your self confidence is so fragile that a person stating a fact - not in a hostile confrontational way, but say on here, or social media, as part of a discussion on the issue - can cause you to take your life, then you really need help. It is not for me, or anyone, or everyone, to pretend those triggering facts are not actually true.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 23/12/2019 21:28

He's a tax lawyer so I really don't understand why he is so into this frankly. On Twitter he comes across as a very arrogant man, clearly believing he moves on a superior plane both morally and intellectually. Any questioning that he can't answer or which shows that his position doesn't make sense is met with an immediate block. He hasn't got beyond 'be nice ladies' and seems unable to understand why males can't be welcomed into women's sport. Not worth bothering with in my opinion.

EwwSprouts · 23/12/2019 20:41

Doesn’t mean we go,total bonkers and forget we have a brain

^This. I can see that he may be prepared to tell the white lie to his friend that they are/have acquired the new sex but from that to everybody across the country must collude with the fiction is an arrogance overload.

littlbrowndog · 22/12/2019 21:41

Yeah so what we all have family and friends doing different stuff

Doesn’t mean we go,total bonkers and forget we have a brain

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 21:41

Yes, lots of us are fighting this for, specifically, our own daughters, and in general, for the safety and dignity of women, Jolyon. I have no idea why he thinks his loved one's rights trump my daughter's rights?

Can we agree to all come together to fight for an additional third space, Jolyon, this preserving women's rights too?

Binterested · 22/12/2019 21:34

Funnily enough I have family members and friends who are women.

Binterested · 22/12/2019 21:31

I think he has a relative or loved one who is trans. Which has totally blinded him to all other considerations. He really has not applied any thinking to this and certainly won’t listen to women.

IrenetheQuaint · 22/12/2019 21:31

Jo Maugham mentioned in a tweet the other day that he has a close friend/family member (can't remember which) who is trans. So his increasingly bonkers tweets need to be seen in that context - I get the impression he feels he needs to fight on that person's behalf.

nauticant · 22/12/2019 21:30

Why is he doing this

It starts with acquiring influence and thus power in one's own domain and then using that to acquire influence and thus power in neighbouring domains.

littlbrowndog · 22/12/2019 21:25

Reading his twitter. What’s his skin in this

Seems mad that a guy is so engrossed in this for no reason

Why is he doing this cos his spuodidlsy clever brain must be like this doesn’t make sense. Yet he goes on and on and on

How weird is he

littlbrowndog · 22/12/2019 21:20

Yeah I was like wow. Wtaf is he doing
