Liverpool Women's hospital no longer has female toilets

I just read this on twitter - the Women's hospital in Liverpool has removed all female toilets and changed them to gender neutral toilets. All the men's toilets have remained the same.

This has been confirmed by hospital staff.

There wouldn't be any male patients
It doesn't make any sense that they have changed the ward toilets to gender neutral aswell. Why?

MoobaaMoobaa · 22/12/2019 15:53

Well they made their intentions quite clear, also claiming it was prompted because of the resisters putting stickers everywhere. So quite a clear fuck you women we'll do what we want.

Another article I saw whilst googling seem to suggest the police head quarters was the first to change.

There wouldn't be any male patients

According to twitter the hospital provides hormone treatment to Transwomen. I have no idea if this is correct.

AuntSpiker · 22/12/2019 15:48

Presumably it's only a matter of time until the hospital changes its name.... I could bloody weep.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/12/2019 15:45

I'd say a full on campaign to turn the men's loos gender neutral too is in order. Should only take a few male visitors complaining for them to be forced to address it.

ItsDinah · 22/12/2019 15:44

The Royal Society for Public Health issued a report in May 2019 deploring the shortage of women's toilets. It recommends there should be two female toilets for every one male toilet. Can the hospital advise how they are fulfilling this recommendation by reducing the number of toilets available for women and doubling the number available for men? Is this the result of an error ? Did they mean to double the number for women? If they are not making additional facilities available for women, can they explain what research they have used that contradicts the RSPH and other expert advise on the matter? I would try for an FOI on that rather than the invasion of women's spaces. It's harder for them to wiggle out of .

"There wouldn't be any male patients"

I assume they have the occasional trans man patient. But then wouldn't they want to use the male loos? So on the wards have one designated gender neutral, in outpatient areas point to the male loos albeit presumably that provision is primarily for visitors.

ChateauMyself · 22/12/2019 15:35

Has anyone contacted the local churches, synagogues, temples and mosques?

cwg1 · 22/12/2019 15:35

What Natural said. From an in-patient POV, their ward loos and bathrooms are probably some of very few that we can guarantee are still single-SEX, however patients identify.

Visitor and staff facilities, OTOH...

loserssaywhat · 22/12/2019 15:30

I live near hear so there's a very real chance I might need those facilities in the future.
What can we actually do?
I'm ready to start doing something instead of sat at home thinking it's something that's going to happen in the future, it's happening now and I feel very helpless.

mumwon · 22/12/2019 15:27

forget everything else - women need more loos per person not less - if they want to make women's loos gender neutral than they need to increase number - I would suggest they build extra loos & make all of them gender neutral

NaturalBornWoman · 22/12/2019 15:24

There wouldn't be any male patients, and visitors shouldn't be using the patient's loos. Having said that it's still an outrage if they've made the women's visitor's or staff loos gender neutral and not the men's.

ThePurported · 22/12/2019 15:24

'Manly men' Everyone else (including manly men who fancy a visit to the women's)

How the fuck is this progressive?

Justhadathought · 22/12/2019 15:20

Liverpool Councillors seem to be v young, woke, inexperienced idiots like Harry Doyle that push this stuff through. They call themselves feminists, but go around calling women 'terfs.' They won't listen to any dissenting voices

Yes, Liverpool council chamber is dominated by the Labour group - and that group now includes lots of young Corbyn/Momentum supporters.
I was actually in the chamber when Liverpool Resisters were invited to speak, ahead of a vote on gender neutral toilets being the norm in all council owned buildings going forwards.....The motion was brought primarily, by a very young, gay councillor - Harry Doyle; but also by the super -woke Lib Dem leader ( on this issue) Richard Kemp.

Joe Anderson is always yelling abuse at someone or other - but yes, it was a huge shock when he directed this venom towards, us, sat there - and even more of a shock when the whole chamber rose to applaud ( yet you could see the lack of ease and discomfort of many at doing so). It was an appalling affront to democracy. Not one of those councillors had consulted their constituents on this change.

The worst one, for me, was councillor Anne O 'Byrne ( who is always promoting her credibility and suitability for office on the basis of her being a working class WOMAN), who simply walked out of the chamber, refusing even to listen to the invited speaker. She was a disgrace!

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 22/12/2019 15:20

People on this board have been talking about this for ages, that men are getting twice the choice and women have none.
But in a maternity and womens hospital?
This is not a drill, it's a war on women.

Stevienickssleeves · 22/12/2019 15:16

I wonder if they completed a risk assessment. Wouldn't it be interesting to see it?

FannyCann · 22/12/2019 15:13

Why would they have male patients in a women's hospital?
I am wondering if this refers to visitor loos or staff loos (obviously female visitors/staff should be catered for).
It's a women's hospital. Surely on the wards or in the outpatient areas patient loos are for women?
We need a breakdown of loo provision on the wards/outpatient areas / staff and visitors.
I can see they might want to accommodate trans men with the occasional gender neutral loo but surely numbers would be low and not justify making the change across the hospital.

It feels like the misogynists in positions of power flexing their muscles, deliberately reminding us we are subordinate by treating us with blatant, visible unfairness.

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 15:09

I just don't understand how it is not sex discrimination to have twice the toilets for men as for women.

I think it must be - but I imagine they think they'll get away it because women are less likely to bring legal action?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 22/12/2019 15:06

It’s just so self evidently unfair

Men get something but women can’t have it Sad

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2019 15:05
