I just read this on twitter - the Women's hospital in Liverpool has removed all female toilets and changed them to gender neutral toilets. All the men's toilets have remained the same.

This has been confirmed by hospital staff.

They might have thought it was better to make the female loos with more cubicles acceptable to a trans man rather than send them into what would essentially still be men’s toilets with urinals.

But trans men are men aren't they? That's what they keep telling us. So why wouldn't they want to use the men's loos?

koshkat · 23/12/2019 11:03

The question that they can NEVER answer...

feelingverylazytoday · 23/12/2019 11:02

If it 's all cubicles, does it matter
There are cubicles in the men's toilets, so why does it matter there then?

Justhadathought · 23/12/2019 10:40

If single sex spaces were not important, we wouldn't have them. Why is it so important for trans women to use women's facilities? It can only be to maintain the illusion of 'identity'. Women don't 'identify' as woman. They just are.

Justhadathought · 23/12/2019 10:38

If it's all cubicles, does it matter

Yes, it matters......

koshkat · 23/12/2019 10:31

This thread is full of women saying that it matters FFS. Read the fucking room. Hmm

They might have thought it was better to make the female loos with more cubicles acceptable to a trans man rather than send them into what would essentially still be men’s toilets with urinals.

It seems strange to inconvenience the vast, vast majority of their patients for the sake of transmen, who must be no more than a small fraction of 1% of their patient base.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2019 10:21

If it's all cubicles, does it matter?

Fieldofgreycorn · 23/12/2019 09:57

*on the wards. Yes they’ve gone for the easy option haven’t they. I do agree it’s done the wrong way round.

Fieldofgreycorn · 23/12/2019 09:54

Fusion I don’t disagree with you. But this might have been in response to a trans man. Was bound to happen sooner or later. They might have thought it was better to make the female loos with more cubicles acceptable to a trans man rather than send them into what would essentially still be men’s toilets with urinals.

Not saying I agree with it. I’m fairly sure women patients will still have access to private toilets.

ActualHornist · 23/12/2019 09:42

@Sunsetsunrise1527 really? I was only at Broadgreen about a month ago didn’t see this. Granted I only went to Dermatology!

koshkat · 23/12/2019 09:38

parroting

koshkat · 23/12/2019 09:37

This is so gobsmackingly awful that I am still in shock. And the silly woman parrtoting how wonderful it is FFS. Hmm

MSM needs to pick this up pronto.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2019 09:32

Ok @Fieldofgreycorn then make the Men's toilets gender neutral and women's as women's.

Vulnerable group - safe.

Men - access to loos.

Done

Fieldofgreycorn · 23/12/2019 09:23

They have 8000 births per year. Most women are accompanied by men. This is the lobby toilets. The wards will have individual toilets.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/12/2019 09:11

What thought process has gone into that?

None

SidJS · 23/12/2019 09:06

Ripe for a toilet door sticker campaign from a local Mumsnetter??

Sunsetsunrise1527 · 23/12/2019 07:27

By the way this is not just the Women's. It has been changed across the trust - So the Royal and Broadgreen both have the same policy as it is in the trust website.

Silencedwitness · 23/12/2019 07:05

This is hugely progressive for MEN! Lucky them able to use whichever loo they fancy but is completely regressive for women. Men seem to be systematically dismantling women’s rights.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 23/12/2019 01:39

The LWH's reasoning is ridiculous. There is already a concept in existence of disabled toilets which sometimes have a sign of a baby in them indicating their dual purpose for family use. The hospital can just remodel more toilets to fit this purpose - not do away with women's ones completely.

And they still didn't explain why they chose to keep the men's loos intact.

We all want to stop the world

Yesterday My 81 year old mother asked me despairingly “when is this going to go away?”
