I'm not saying it is true - Twitter isn't known for being wedded to truth...anyone able to shed light? I thought the verdict wasn't due for a while...

I've briefly read through the decision and find it quite laughable. It seemed to hone in on the idea that Maya thinking sex and biology are material reality was a newly discovered belief.

Total lunacy.

Maya I hope you take this further, we will all be behind you.

Oh FFS

"However, I consider that the Claimant's view, in its absolutist nature, is
incompatible with human dignity and fundamental rights of others. She goes so
far as to deny the right of a person with a Gender Recognition Certificate to be
the sex to which they have transitioned. I do not accept the Claimant's
contention that the Gender Recognition Act produces a mere legal fiction. It
provides a right, based on the assessment of the various interrelated
convention rights, for a person to transition, in certain circumstances, and
thereafter to be treated for all purposes as the being of the sex to which they
have transitioned. In Goodwin a fundamental aspect of the reasoning of the
ECHR was that a person who has transitioned should not be forced to identify
their gender assigned at birth. Such a person should be entitled to live as a
person of the sex to which they have transitioned. That was recognised in the
Gender Recognition Act which states that the change of sex applies for “all
purposes”. Therefore, if a person has transitioned from male to female and has
a Gender Recognition Certificate that person is legally a woman. That is not
something that the Claimant is entitled to ignore."

This one was an employment tribunal?

I have no idea what, if any, appeals process is open to her.

Thank you for standing up for women, children, reality and freedom of thought, conscience, belief and speech against the bullying bigots Maya. Sorry this didn't go your way but you have opened many more people's eyes to the appalling ideology being forced on an unwilling populace.Flowers

GrinitchSpinach · 18/12/2019 19:51

Cuntysnark · 18/12/2019 19:50

Sparkyduchess · 18/12/2019 19:50

The Equality Act says that a philosophical belief must be genuinely held and more than an opinion. It must be cogent, serious and apply to an important aspect of human life or behaviour.

Kit19 · 18/12/2019 19:48

Kit19 · 18/12/2019 19:47

Fuck me!!! I’ll wait to see on what grounds - it could be a technicality

popehilarious · 18/12/2019 19:46

What in the absolute fuck?

Forgotthebins · 18/12/2019 19:46

But did she lose on the grounds of belief, or because she was on a fixed term contract? Awful for her either way and I hope she gets another (better) job, but important difference. Maya if you're reading, Flowers

ScrimshawTheSecond · 18/12/2019 19:45

Fuck.

ThePurported · 18/12/2019 19:45

I had the email as well.

Maya, from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for doing this. You have raised awareness even though the ruling didn't go your way.
Let us know if there is anything we can do, funding- or otherwise.

SophoclesTheFox · 18/12/2019 19:44

Oh no, this is awful. On what grounds?

MyMajesty · 18/12/2019 19:43

Sad Angry

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 18/12/2019 19:43

Considering how big this is it's not unexpected. Hopefully an appeal will happen.

From the Crowdfunding email
Update on I lost my job for talking about women’s rights

Dear all,

I received the judgement this afternoon. Here it is: Maya Forstater v CGD .
I lost. This judgement is chilling for the freedom of belief and speech.

I am gutted with the news but thinking through options with my legal team.

Below is my official statement.

Thank you all so much for your support. Courage Calls!
Lots of love
Maya

_

I struggle to express the shock and disbelief I feel at reading this judgment, which I think will be shared by the vast majority of people who are familiar with my case.
My belief as i set out in my witness statement is that sex is a biological fact, and is immutable. There are two sexes, male and female. Men and boys are male. Women and girls are female. It is impossible to change sex. These were until very recently understood as basic facts of life by almost everyone.
As I said at my tribunal I will as a matter of courtesy use preferred pronouns and I support human rights. Everyone should be free to express themselves, to break free of gender stereotypes and to live free of violence, harrassment and discrimination.
But this does not require removing people’s freedom to speak about objective reality, or to discuss proposed changes to law and to government policies clearly.
Women facd discrimination on the basis of our sex. The rights of women to organise, to play a role in public life and to be protected against discrimination have been hard-won in recent generations. Protections against sex discrimination depend on being able to recognise sex. This is why it is a protected characteristic in the Equality Act.

This judgment removes women’s rights and the right to freedom of belief and speech. It gives judicial licence for women and men who speak up for objective truth and clear debate to be subject to aggression, bullying, no platforming and economic punishment.
I will consider the judgment closely with my legal team to determine what can be done to challenge it. I will make a further statement once that task is complete.
I want to express my thanks to my legal team Anya Palmer and Peter Daly for the excellent job they have done, to Kristina Harrison for speaking up as a witness in my tribunal, and to everyone whose careful and compassionate writing on this topic helped me to understand the issues. I am grateful for the outpouring of support I have received from around the world, via social media, on Mumsnet, through feminist networks and in person.
In particular thank you to everyone who has made and continues to make financial donations towards the legal costs through crowdjustice.com.
Most of all I want to thank my husband, my children and my family for their support. I will be forever grateful to everyone who has stood with me.
