Jess Phillips pile on on Twitter

It seems to have gone now, but I saw this morning on Twitter Jess Phillips MP, saying that the five gc questions to candidates seemed reasonable, there were some supportive tweets, and then there was a huge pile on from a lot of people saying TWAW and a certain amount of abuse.

Anyone know what happened here?

JP has been a massive disappointment to me.
I genuinely thought that a woman who did so much for women in her community would stand up against the woke bullshit trans train.

But she didn't and she hasn't and now it's too late so it's a no from me.

Gone2far · 17/12/2019 11:41

JP is always going on about how ballsy she is. If she'd expended an ounce of that on support for GC women I'd be sympathetic towards her cause. Plus, I had the misfortune to read her autobiography - one of the most boring, unintelligent, books I've ever read.

Wurfit · 17/12/2019 11:26

It's incredibly difficult for Labour MPs and candidates, potential and current, to be openly GC. They're dependent on their CLPs to select them and are called out by vocal CLP members for such heinous crimes as being friendly with Joanna Cherry.

HorseWithNoTimeForCis · 17/12/2019 11:18

I'd love to have this explained: I'm not GC myself...

I'd guess that the writer actually believes that girls should not climb trees because they'll get their dresses dirty and anyway that's what boys do.

But I could be wrong.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 17/12/2019 10:36

I've always liked what I've seen of Jess, so I'm interested to see posters like Lang who I hugely respect say she's essentially career first.

I do wonder, though, if it's possible to be a woman in politics without being willing to sacrifice a lot of principles for your career. Obviously not a good thing but is that what it takes for a woman? (In this respect I'm heartened that David TC Davies has got a promotion despite standing up for his GC beliefs openly and honestly).

nauticant · 17/12/2019 10:23

As the cultists run out of victims they end up turning on allies which has them combing more and more carefully through their pasts to find heresies.

This is a good thing for helping people finally to understand what's going on and how toxic it is.

ArranUpsideDown · 17/12/2019 10:18

It seems to be a standard "are you now or have you ever been ..." witch hunt. Including going after those who are guilty by association:

Which is particularly inappropriate in this case as DAG is supportive of TWAW. Tho', iirc, hasn't JP been less than GC in some ways in the past?

nauticant · 17/12/2019 10:09

Rebecca Long-Bailey would be an amusing choice.

There would be further benefits. She would keep the momentum of the Corbyn project going in a limping-along kind of way, and she could spend a couple of years convincing everyone that something other than useless is needed. By the time she went just about everyone would be sick to death of the Corbyn project.

I'd go with that rather than have a decent candidate burned through and discarded before the next election.

Floisme · 17/12/2019 10:08

I don't think anyone who wins the leadership this time around will be openly GC. It's why I can't get excited about whether it's a woman or not. It will either be a woman who hasn't thought deeply about it (to be fair most of us have been there but not promising) or a woman who genuinely believes you can change sex (I will keep my thoughts about that to myself) or a woman who doesn't believe it but who won't jeopardise her career by saying so. None of them feel much like progress to me

Lordamighty · 17/12/2019 09:50

Len McCluskey will decide who the next leader of the Labour Party will be i.e. Rebecca Long-Bailey.

LangCleg · 17/12/2019 09:46

I honestly think Jess would put any and all political principle to one side in favour of her career. I think she is probably GC but it doesn't count for much for this reason.

Justhadathought · 17/12/2019 09:33

I really hope that labour party decision makers don't mistake the voting preferences of the electorate with a twitter trend. They have just made that mistake. They need to choose a winner

Good point!

I'm not at all sure that the Labour party, or certainly momentum, even know what a winner looks like. They seem determined to keep flying the same flag.

All of this business about it needing to be a woman.....I'm not so sure.what is needed is the best candidate. At present, given the way it is going...whoever is elected is going to have a very rough time.

I recall being very disappointed with Jess Philips during the select committee. As someone has said - she was incredibly reticent all of a sudden.

Joisanofthedales · 17/12/2019 09:24

Sorry I don't trust her. I agree with Lang

Cwenthryth · 17/12/2019 09:22

Anyway, they're coming for Jess big time, which suggests to me that she's doing something right.

Good point!

Lordamighty · 17/12/2019 09:09

From what I have heard so far Labour have learned absolutely nothing from their election defeat.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/12/2019 09:05

I think she was supportive of TWAW. So was I, once upon a time. Then, not so much. Now, not at all.

I think this is the natural bell curve of a peak.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 17/12/2019 08:55

As far as I was aware Phillips was supportive of TWAW nonsense. Obviously not supportive enough for the loons guaranteeing Labour's next election defeat.

Wurfit · 17/12/2019 07:31

There’s also people on that Young Labour loon’s thread complaining about what Jess hasn’t said

My MP was criticised for not posting about TDOR. Because of course that should have been her top priority in the midst of an election campaign (a successful one thankfully as she's a very good MP, although her vote share was down on 2017).

Anyway, they're coming for Jess big time, which suggests to me that she's doing something right.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 17/12/2019 07:30

NoNameIsBeingAccepted · 17/12/2019 06:15

I don't like Jess and I don't trust her. I want her nowhere near the front bench, along with Angela Rayner.

I think the TRAs have turned so heavily on her because they thought of her of as an ally.

I like David Allen Green but didn't realise he was one of the woke blokes.

Catmaiden · 17/12/2019 02:04

I know! Which bit of sex don't they understand.
I'm a scientist.
It's bonkers

justcly · 17/12/2019 01:55

My favourite tweet of that pile on was "She can't accept the scientific fact that gender is a spectrum." I'm still laughing.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 17/12/2019 00:49

I would take Jess over Angela Rayner. Didn’t she cosy up to LM, saying she would keep the bench in the HoC warm for them?

ThePurported · 17/12/2019 00:44

I don't like Jess. I think she'd throw us under the bus for a chance at leader. Without much thought. Sorry.

I like Jess but I think you're right, she would throw us under the bus. I thought she was uncharacteristically nervous during that select committee hearing on DV and refuges.

I must admit I was slightly surprised to see no one else had posted on here about all this, much earlier. But I understand there is so much crap online, its difficult to spot everything.
It does seem to be a concerted, or Co ordinated attack of the Clones. (sorry, been watching Rogue One just now!)
