Why Hannah Mouncey wasn't picked for the world championships

Mouncey says: "I can confirm that yes, I was left out of the team for the World Championships because there was a group of players within the team, supported by the team manager, who did not want me showering or using the change rooms before or after the game."

Good on those women who stood up against being forced to share showers and changing rooms with a male bodied person.

Obviously Hannah is feeling a bit aggrieved but is putting on a brave face: www.starobserver.com.au/opinion/people-will-do-whats-easy-over-whats-right-hannah-mouncey-speaks-out/190555

So Hannah's wish to represent Australia on sport comes second to Hannah's wish to be in the women's showers and changing rooms.

Quite. Interesting that..

I think the coach used the shower thing knowing there would be a tantrum and Hannah was most likely to say 'all or nothing!!!'. Maybe the safety issue would have came up if asking a male to shower seperately from females, did not induce such rage and it had been accepted as a perfectly reasonable request, which it is.

Erm, is Mouncey the one who has the build of a refrigerator? Can't be arsed to look it up. But if that is Mouncey, it would go against every principle of fair play in sports to have them competing against women, who, at most are built like dorm room mini-fridges.

Elderly don't compete with college students. A street game of rugby isn't going to compete against the All Blacks. In sport, it's fundamental that all players in a group have some kind of chance to win.

Otherwise it's just war. Which is different.

Privacy and dignity are only some of the things at stake.

”... Mouncey shares what it is like be treated this way, creating awareness and understanding for trans and gender diverse young people who want to build a space for themselves in the world.”

Hannah, and the other gender diverse people are welcome to build a space for themselves in the world.

However, they are NOT welcome to colonise and co-opt and take over women’s hard-fought-for spaces in the world.

BatShite · 28/05/2020 18:15

Fair enough reason. Would have much preferred 'because Hannah is male and clearly has an advantage over women' but, can't win them all I guess.

MrsNoah2020 · 28/05/2020 12:51

The photos in that article are hilarious. The article's in the Aussie equivalent of Pink News (though not quite as mad, in fairness) so I assume the picture editor wasn't intentionally subverting Hannah's message, but the photos perfectly illustrate the difference between Hannah's body and those of her teammates.

"This is going to happen over and over, and eventually you become very comfortable in saying no to people, regardless of how forceful you need to be. So many people spend their whole lives trying to please others and giving in to everything that is asked of them, and being able to develop the skills and confidence to say no is truly wonderful."
Oh well said Hannah! Women need to hear this more often. Women of TWR, remember to develop that confidence, let's say No!

Winesalot · 28/05/2020 10:32

Well it could be Sensitive New Aged Guy too. In my head I read it that way.

SunsetBeetch · 28/05/2020 09:55

Yeah, in retrospect, I think you're right, fluffy

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 09:38

Sausage

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 28/05/2020 09:38

It’s a sausage, but it’s pretty obvious that’s not really Hannah’s account.

MoltenLasagne · 28/05/2020 09:34

What's a snag in Aussie slang?

Winesalot · 28/05/2020 09:28

I suspect that the wider Australian public has just had a wake up call when the Australian Science Academy declared they had for inclusive purposes redefined woman.

It seems to have awakened debate that Victoria has just changed the rules for changing birth certificate sex.

I suspect that there will be a lot more discussion about it. And frankly, I think there will be greater pushback on those saying it is phobic to actually have that discussion.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 28/05/2020 09:19

Her face is the face that launched a thousand memes.

I love it too. 👍

Lordfrontpaw · 28/05/2020 09:15

I just love the face of number 44.

Babdoc · 28/05/2020 09:14

I’m delighted that Mouncey is off the team, but worried that it was just because of the changing room issue. If Mouncey had agreed to change separately, does that mean they would have played?
Many referees and umpires in women’s sports are speaking out about their duty to protect players’ safety on the pitch - and saying they would refuse to supervise a match where male bodied players were potentially injuring females, as they could be sued for allowing it.
It should be blindingly obvious that men do not belong in women’s sports, whatever their “feelz” or internal “gender identity”.
The solution is a transgender sports league, like the Paralympics. A “third space” of sport, if you will.

littlbrowndog · 10/12/2019 23:21

Yeah mouncey. Taking a woman’s place on team

Then got the power to get into the press so,you could whine.

No thoughts or empathy for the woman you displaced

In the press where you got the power to get your whiny words published

MrGHardy · 10/12/2019 23:05

“PEOPLE WILL DO WHAT’S EASY OVER WHAT’S RIGHT”

Um, nowadays simply bowing to trans ideology is the easy thing but ok, go off.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 10/12/2019 12:38

So many people spend their whole lives trying to please others and giving in to everything that is asked of them, and being able to develop the skills and confidence to say no is truly wonderful.’

A bit like your teammates who smiled and said nothing and gave in when you took the place of a natal woman on the team, and have finally developed the skills and confidence to say no to you forcing your intact male body into their sex segregated spaces? Yes Hannah, that is indeed truly fucking wonderful.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 12:37

I'd imagine most decent men would a. feel self conscious themselves and b. feel even more so if they got an erection. So again, the fact that certain people are so insistent about this tells you something about them.

andyoldlabour · 10/12/2019 12:30

I think most heterosexual males wouldn't actually like to change and shower with women. If it was me, I would feel very uncomfortable.
