Pink News is pure terfery and that's why I love it. It's terftastic.

PencilsInSpace · 07/12/2019 00:23

Prick news just gets worse and worse, doesn't it?

while showing footage from an anti-trans group greatly admired by a prominent right-wing, anti-abortion commentator in the US.

Translation: Some evangelical christian bloke in the US said he admired Get The L Out (a UK lesbian rights organisation). Therefore the BBC is propagating hatethoughts by including any footage of Get The L out.

Is that how it works now? Maybe we should all tweet about how much we admire prick news in the hope that they'll cancel themselves.

Yes I know some fantastic male allies who have done good stuff in their own right but are very conscious not to talk over women and to listen and take their lead.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 07/12/2019 00:07

A man declaring himself a feminist is a red flag, imo. Men who actually understand what feminism is also understand that it's not about them. The loveliest, most supportive men I know all know very well that their role in relation to feminism is one of making the tea for the meetings and listening to the women in their lives when we need it. If they want to combat sexism then their job is to address their fellow men, not worm their way into women's groups and tell us what we should be doing.

Ereshkigal · 06/12/2019 23:45

This ENTIRE movement to change laws and customs is premised on the idea that 1) women never really had it that bad anyway 2) if they did, it’s all over now and 3) even if it’s not over, they pretty much deserve it, don’t they?

Absolutely. All these self declared "feminist" men.

FlyingOink · 06/12/2019 20:21

Emily Maitlis has been stalked relentlessly and terrifyingly by the same man for the best part of 30 years.
That's awful.
What's also awful is that I hope she never mentions this in this discussion because it would be used as an explanation why she is "irrational" and will prompt endless comments about whether her looks warrant her being stalked.
Sadly, sharing pertinent personal experience is rarely wise when dealing with keyboard warriors.

Uncompromisingwoman · 06/12/2019 20:14

I suspect that intelligent women like her, Laura Kunesberg et al are well used to dealing with sexist tone deaf over privileged males like Fawcett

GrinitchSpinach · 06/12/2019 20:13

I mean - how do these men sail through life having no fucking idea WHY women have safe spaces?

Hear, hear, zebra!

There's not much she doesn't know about creepy, predatory, boundary-erasing males.

Total respect and solidarity to her.

Adenosine · 06/12/2019 20:07

Ah, be fair. He's a commercial barrister. He spends every waking minute arguing for people to be able to do whatever the fuck they like. And at close to 50 (I'm guessing from the profile picture) he's unable to change tack now.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 06/12/2019 20:05

I'm absolutely sick of the hatred and bullying they do. Such a bunch of fucking hypocrites. waves at the Monitors you yes you.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 06/12/2019 19:52

Jane Clare Jones has his arse nicely warming for him on a plate in the oven i see. Grin

I think he might be my new least favourite massively over privileged internet tosser though. Thanks for the introduction Ereshkigal

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 06/12/2019 19:46

I was just thinking what a pompous twat that guy sounds. But then I realised he's a barrister and it all fell into place.

Lumene · 06/12/2019 19:33

Ah yes men arguing me should be allowed into women’s spaces even if women say ‘no’. Lovely.

friedbeansandcheese · 06/12/2019 19:31

People can't read, can they? I agree with Emily.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 18:44

You could easily take higher crime rates perpetrated by certain ethnic groups as a justification for discrimination.

And here we see once again the kind of people who support women not being allowed to have single sex spaces. Lovely, aren't they?

TheQueef · 06/12/2019 18:32

Who is she biased towards?
No party is an option Confused

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 18:27

Perhaps the man in question is confused as to what happens in mosques. I can quite confidently inform him that people do not generally strip down to their underpants in the middle of one in order to try on a range of outfits.

(There may well be toilets, and those will indeed be sex segregated. Oh the horrors.)

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 18:21

Someone on the Maitliss thread (a man) has just opined that Maitliss has got this wrong, because sex segregation is just a tradition, and people object to sex segregation in Mosques, or something.

I mean - how do these men sail through life having no fucking idea WHY women have safe spaces? And will happily give them away on our behalf (they are not yours to give away, random man) and tell women who object to stop being so silly about it. We have these rights in law - and they act like they are nothing, Just tradition. It's just fucking mansplaining on a grand scale.

RedToothBrush · 06/12/2019 18:14

So a journalist doing her job and asking questions is politically biases now?

Critical analysis is politically biased?

Well at least there we have it - straight out of the authoritarian playbook.

A journalists job is to ask difficult questions which might happen to be politically awkward and difficult to get to the heart of an issue and expose what lies beneath.

It's not to agree with lobbyists and to make life easy for them.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/12/2019 18:05

I suspect it's precisely because she doesn't seem like the type to be easily intimidated that they've come out with all guns blazing.

theflushedzebra · 06/12/2019 18:05

Her tweet still has an awful more likes than comments...and a lot of those comments are supportive.

Sorry TRAs - your quest to pass this legislation on the quiet, with no debate, has failed.

The more people are finding out about this, the more people don't like it.

TRAs can "accuse" Maitliss of whatever they like - but people can hear what she said themselves, and I think public opinion agrees with her.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 06/12/2019 18:03

Despicable hatred she's receiving. These people live in lala land.

I am so fucking fed up with the gaslighting.

Angryresister · 06/12/2019 18:03

It was a refreshing change to see these programmes, when the bias has been the other way until now. Well done Emily, the tide is definitely turning thanks to brave women like you
