Now granted, I've not fully fleshed this idea out, but in the light of @theflushedzebra pointing out that trans activists never seem to stop giving each other awards, we should have our own virtual FWR awards for services to feminism in 2019.

As the founder of this ceremony, I expect designers will be queuing up to allow me to "wear" them.

Post your nominations below, and feel free to describe how fabulous you look at the ceremony!

My nomination for best British female solo artist goes to : Maya Forstarter for grace and clarity under considerable pressure.

I’m definitely not bringing my darling offspring to this, it sounds like it would be epic and I would be much too drunk hungover the next day to parent in any meaningful way.

What a bloody brilliant list of absolute sheroes. So inspiring to read them all in one place!

Could the men’s award be called The Nigel perhaps?

Destinysdaughter · 05/12/2019 21:58

Can we crowdfund to make this happen? I've often thought how great it would be to do something like this, so glad it's taken off and was a great group of people we have in this fight! So proud to be have come across them all.

TinselAngel · 05/12/2019 21:56

Would we get pissed and then all jump in the swimming pool in our ball gowns?

It's OK they have DBS checked babysitters at Center Parcs.

If we do have the awards ceremony at Centre Parks, can someone bring babysitters? So we don't all have to go early to put the DCs to bed (like the tweeters at Maya's tribunal who all had to go early to catch school pickup)?

What a great thread. I applaud all those nominated and everyone on here who has contributed to this fight back. As someone who mostly lurks I am in awe of you.

Fallingirl · 05/12/2019 21:39

We already have enough for several years’ worth of award ceremonies.
We should have a ceremony every year on 8/3.

Gail Dines for tireless work against porn.

Destinysdaughter · 05/12/2019 21:36

So many brilliant people on here! Think we have to include Piers Morgan for some of his sterling interviews on Breakfast TV?

( sorry)

Cuntysnark · 05/12/2019 21:27

Oh yes. Sarah Fields

YellaHumberElla · 05/12/2019 21:16

Hannah McGill for Best Radio Play

Achieving an amazing feat of new writing for BBC Fact to Fiction.

weebarra · 05/12/2019 21:13

I can't add anyone else to the wonderful lists already made, but thank you to you all for helping me think and realise that being GC is actually good and healthy and doesn't make me a bad person.
Rest in power Magdalen and Deborah.

ncGCfeminist · 05/12/2019 21:07

Men could be recognised as supporting actors.

Lang has been a huge inspiration to me - I think she deserves an award from the lurkers who has helped them stop dawdling too much from the foothills to perhaps pop a few stickers on lampposts here and there..

TalkingintheDark · 05/12/2019 21:07

What an utterly brilliant idea and thread - as others have said, imagine this in RL - if we could actually celebrate us in public the way other people can do!

What an amazing list of wonderful women. And a few good men.

I’d like to nominate Councillor Sarah Field of Leeds for best summing up of the whole issue in a single speech - and courage in the face of the toxic political landscape too, obvs.

This speech, which can always do with being reposted:

Thanks for starting this, Tinsel! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nominating The Resisters in the 'Most Inspiring Direct Action' category for their Adult Human Female T-shirt campaign. With a special commendation for clothing Sappho.

theflushedzebra · 05/12/2019 21:03

Unlikeliest Male Ally Award has to go to Brendan O'Neill.

I've always found him somewhat questionable, to say the least.

But here is absolutely hitting the nail on the head on Sky News.

Transcript:

"They're defending what a woman is, in a era when pretty much anyone now, through the transgender idea, can become a woman, or claim to be a woman, or identify as a woman. So this is a rebellious poster saying 'look, a woman is a very specific thing, and not everyone is a woman, some people are men and some people are women.' There was a complaint, as there is always a complaint these days and now it looks like the poster's going to be removed."

"What I think - it points to is two things. Firstly, that there is a very strong censorious streak in the politics of transgenderism, where they tolerate no criticism whatsoever. Also, I think there is a streak of misogyny in this movement, where I do think that this idea that womanhood is such a flimsy, shallow thing that anyone can adopt it and embrace it and put it on as if it was a piece of clothing, I think is a very sexist idea."

"Also, what it looks like is "woman" - the idea of a woman, the word woman, in this case - is being erased from public life by people who are either trans-activists or sympathisers to trans-activists who think it's unacceptable to say the word woman."

"It looks to me like women, these feminists, are right. Women are being erased under the pressure of what, increasingly, looks like a fairly tyrannical form of trans-politics."

womanaf · 05/12/2019 21:00

Man Friday can’t get any of the women’s awards, because they’re men, innit.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 05/12/2019 20:59

The 'Every Little Helps' award for the lurkers, non-lurkers and the small acts of courage everywhere, from Stickerwoman and leaflet drops to random chats at the hairdressers, the school gate and beyond.

theflushedzebra · 05/12/2019 20:58

YY to Ricky Gervais hosting - it'll be a lot more memorable than the Pink News Awards "My name is Jeremy Corbyn and my pronouns are He/Him" YES Jeremy. We know. Grin

Uncompromisingwoman · 05/12/2019 20:57

Has anyone mentioned Germaine Greer?

TinselAngel · 05/12/2019 20:54

Ricky Gervais probably deserves something for spreading the word

I'd say he could host the ceremony, but it should be a woman. I think I might give the gig to Kate Smurthwaite.

A vote for Dr Emma Hilton from me, as well as Rachel Rooney and Jessica Ahlberg for their fabulous new childrens' book

theflushedzebra · 05/12/2019 20:52

Karen Ingala-Smith for services to women-only refuges.

And for collating the figures of women killed by men in domestic violence (because the government won't). kareningalasmith.com/counting-dead-women/

Ricky Gervais probably deserves something for spreading the word about Yaniv to the widest audience. 13.4 million followers is not to be sniffed at.
