Now granted, I've not fully fleshed this idea out, but in the light of @theflushedzebra pointing out that trans activists never seem to stop giving each other awards, we should have our own virtual FWR awards for services to feminism in 2019.

As the founder of this ceremony, I expect designers will be queuing up to allow me to "wear" them.

Post your nominations below, and feel free to describe how fabulous you look at the ceremony!

My nomination for best British female solo artist goes to : Maya Forstarter for grace and clarity under considerable pressure.

Here’s how to nominate someone for an actual IRL medal:

www.gov.uk/honours/nominate-someone-in-the-uk

Quick explainer of the different types here:

www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/amp/30641853

Let’s start nominating our Sheroes. We can all send emails Grin

ChattyLion · 14/12/2019 14:36

Sammy Woodhouse
Deptford People Project

slug · 11/12/2019 13:32

Anne Ruzlo and Venice Allen for radacalising Mumsnet

GeordieTerf · 11/12/2019 13:14

I feel ridiculous saying this... but I feel that Piers Morgan has been brilliant on this issue! Blush

TheTinselrati · 11/12/2019 11:14

We could award proper medals to women who missed out due to men competing against them:

for example Feagaiga Stowers could have a gold medal:

MrsFogi · 11/12/2019 11:06

I hope someone has nominated the Lib Dems for including the GRA in their manifesto and therefore enabling us all to speak freely about this in RL (all the time and to anyone who will listen Grin).

Thenagainmaybenot · 11/12/2019 10:12

Zuby for breaking the women's deadlift record?

moimichme · 11/12/2019 09:56

What a fabulous idea, Tinsel!

If she hasn't been mentioned yet - I'd like to nominate BowlofBabelfish for the Scientific Smackdown award!

ChattyLion · 11/12/2019 09:06

Love the Roll of Honour idea!

Also what about one of those live performance drawing graphic art/map sessions where a very talented woman with a marker pen collates suggestions by drawing them out on a massive whiteboard- the interactivity could be a lot of fun Grin

Stuffofawesome · 11/12/2019 08:29

I think the problem with these awards is they all deserve to win. Maybe A Woman's Place conference in Feb could have a Roll of Honour on display. (Rapidly embroidered by Leeds Spinners obviously)

TinselAngel · 11/12/2019 07:35

That would look great on a plinth.

Another suggestion for the award - it would make a lovely pendant

Uncompromisingwoman · 10/12/2019 17:26

Has Andrew Gilligan's name appeared anywhere? Another Times journalist who was instrumental in getting this publicised in the early days.

WomanBornNotWorn · 10/12/2019 16:40

First thoughts:

@glinner @goinglikeelsie

Sharron Davies Martina Navratilova etc

The organisers, speakers, security guards and attendees at the Brighton WPUK meeting (definitely NOT THE POLICE OFFICERS)

James Kirkup

Maya Forstater

The lawyers representing the Canadian waxing ladies

Rachel Rooney & Jessica Ahlberg, the writer & illustrator of My Body Is Me

The athletes who came second, third & fourth after the golds got swiped

Whoever decided to 'not select' Hannah Mouncey

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2019 10:33

If she's shy she can phone in to accept her prize, obviously.Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2019 10:32

I think we need to add 'Anna from Warwickshire'!

MrsFogi · 10/12/2019 00:04

I would definitely to pay to come along to this glitzy awards ceremony - I've been looking for an occasion to get a glamorous long gown for ages!

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/12/2019 19:54

Late nomination for the Man Fridays, for bringing the whole nonsense to the attention of the wider public.

RuffleCrow · 08/12/2019 16:21

Loving this thread. I'm sorry to say i didn't know she'd died. Last i heard she was going into palliative care. Sad

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2019 16:18

The breadth and diversity of support on this issue has been impressive. Safeguarding, free speech etc are issues everyone should be concerned about, regardless of politics or background.

Perhaps there is scope even for a (dis) honourable mention for Null and his kiwi-farmers. In particular their keeping of the Yaniv archive.

Needmoresleep · 08/12/2019 16:14

Posted up thread. David TC Davies MP. An unlikely hero but one nonetheless, using parliamentary processes to have a debate, ask questions and so on.

YellaHumberElla · 08/12/2019 12:45

Who was it behind the scenes at the House of Commons, who offered up a conference space there after Millwall FC were too scared to host it? Due to threats of violence from TRAs.

Whoever that was deserves a mention.

“More Balls than Millwall”

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 10:16

I am happy for somebody to steal my idea and arrange it, as long as I'm invited.

Suggest that this is set up. Given that women (and allies) have shown they are very happy to pay for tickets and travel to attend various feminist speakers over the last year, even in the face of threats, I imagine that if the ticket price was bumped slightly to allow for prizes (and maybe food? drink?), then there is no reason why this can't be an actual event, with copious press releases and hopefully coverage in the media, to highlight the strength of the movement.

Courage calls to courage and all that. Will help lurkers and waverers to feel they are not alone and feminism is not a minority view or anything you need to hide away.

And frankly all these amazing women deserve public thanks from all of us.

Agree this thread is very cheering as it's easy to forget how very many brave women (and some male allies) there are who have been putting their heads above the parapet for all our sakes. There are actually loads there!

Thank you Flowers
